hello everyone! this is nina (+23, she/her), and i'm so very excited to be finally here. i've been keeping an eye on wishing for quite some time now, so i'm looking forward to all the nice stuff we can plot together. i'm bringing my lovely (and slightly air-headed, public pleaser) fairy, furukawa asami, one of the contestants in the select! who's not at all good enough to be in the show. under the cut more, you can find a little bit more about her and her background. feel free to message me about plotting (or just talking too, if you feel like it), or just leave this post a like, and i'll reach out to you.
— overview;
asami has the sg2 premade, so that might already say a little bit about her.
initially scouted for her visuals and wanted to be an actor, but was convinced by her company to pursue being an idol even though she had a lot of catching up to do. currently in yuju ent.
asami grew up in nagano, japan, and she never left her hometown for long periods. going to seoul on vacation was the first time in her life that she spent longer than a week away from home.
she follows the popular girl with a heart of gold kind of trope, especially when she was in school. people liked her well enough, and she was surrounded by people all the time (she can't be left alone, she doesn't like being by herself), but she was easily one of those people who could be taken advantage of because they are so pliant and nice.
she heard her whole life that she should be someone who'd appear on tv. a model, an actress, a news anchor, or anything. her face was worthy of being displayed to everyone to see, and she bought the idea and decided she would become an actress.
she's not that untalented, but she didn't stand out on that field. she did participate in a few school plays, of which some she was the protagonist, but that was the farthest she got into the stardom.
asami started working as a barista in a café after high school. she went to university and majored in acting. asami auditioned a lot and even got a few minor roles, so she knows how to hear a now as an answer.
at the age of 21, she went to seoul for a vacation of two weeks, and that's how she was scouted to her current company. she was in the subway when she was approached by a woman and offered the opportunity to join an entertainment company. for someone who didn't have anything to lose, why would she deny the chance, right?
the thing is, asami foolishly thought that a foreigner could get a gig or another in korea. it's not the case, of course. so, upon the chance to branch out from her comfort zone, asami throws herself at it blindly.
she's not at all the most talented of the select! girls. she has charisma, and she has the looks. she can hold the public's attention, but she's not a good rapper, she can barely sing, and her dancing is passable at best. summing up, at this stage, she's not at all prepared for debut, and to be fair, it's not something that she wanted for herself, but since she thinks she can branch out once her name is out there, trying doesn't hurt anyone.
asami is kind, gentle, patient, and a good friend, but she's a bit airheaded, and a little too eager, as well. she's sturdy at the very least and works hard.
— plot ideas;
Someone who knew Asami when she was younger and still living in Japan. They should either be Japanese or have grown up in Nagano.
Someone also interested in acting, and this could go some ways, I think:
They love what they do as idol-actors, and fully support the idea of Asami pursuing that path
Someone who hates acting but was pushed into it and wish Asami would stay away from the mess
Someone who doesn't like the idea of more idols wanting to make their way into this acting thing and dislikes that Asami thinks she'll ever make it
Someone who's patient enough to teach her Korean
Someone who's patient enough to teach her dance
Someone who feels bad for her and try to help her with singing

“hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.”
Asami expected a lower grade than the D that she got. Sure, F would be the next step if she just kept lamenting and crying about how bad she did despite the countless hours of practice, so she was still in a very scary position right now. She could still go lower, while people who got worse than her could only hope to do better and go up.
There are no guarantees that Asami will be able to make it higher. If her audition taught her anything, is that despite having the best intentions at heart, she was still painfully mediocre in the eyes of the judges, and well, she couldn’t even blame them. She did a bad job at keeping up with the standard.
The camera had caught her crying after receiving her grade, despite her best efforts to not do it in front of everyone. She guesses that they need some of the drama to edit it in later like she had seen in other survival shows in the past, and truthfully, Asami doesn’t know how to feel about it. She didn’t want to be seen as a cry-baby, or a weak spot. She didn’t want people feeling sorry for her. But later when they are given the song and the assignment to learn the lyrics and choreography of I Wish, all Asami can think about is how she wants to do better.
The public loves an underdog, that’s very clear since always. The person who’s mediocre at best and manages to exceed expectations and blow everyone’s minds. People love that. If there is something Asami is, is mediocre at best, and if given the chance, she wants to be someone who the public likes and roots for, and not feel sorry for the poor foreign contestant who can’t keep up.
Asami trains day and night, as many hours as she can, with as much help as she can gather. She records herself and looks attentively at the mirror time and time again because she doesn’t want to get any moves wrong. Dancing comes quite easily to her, but it’s less about her ability to memorize and more about how she delivers it. She knows how to be charming, and she might as well use it to her benefit.
The lyrics are another story completely. She can’t hope to only dance and not sing. That would downgrade her even more, but singing is so difficult. Korean is difficult, and her tongue doesn’t roll the words as nicely as they are supposed to, and it’s frustrating to keep trying, especially when Asami starts sounding worse and worse at each try.
When the time for the reevaluation comes, she’s not at all confident, which is a bummer for someone who has to perform by herself in front of a camera. She can dance, but she can’t sing, and the best outcome she can hope for is that she won’t be wearing the gray uniform the next time she steps into the practice room.

“so, how the hell do you plan on making it up to me for ruining my favourite shirt?” a tad dramatic, but very in character for eunbyul. she enjoyed making problems out of the smallest thing. it made it much easier to keep eyes on her. she tilted her head from side to side as she stared asami down, eyebrows raised as she waited for a reply to her question.
The thing about Asami is that she doesn’t like making a scene. She doesn’t like drama or complicated things, and she’ll avoid it at all costs. But she also doesn’t like when people get upset, especially when their anger is directed at her, so that is also one of the reasons why she tends to stay neutral in most cases. In this one, in particular, there’s nothing to be done other than confront what had happened and come up with a solution that leaves both parties satisfied.
Asami looks at the spot where her drink spilled on this other girl, and she bites her lips in regret that this had to happen tonight. “That’s bad. It’s a very nice shirt. You dress it well,” she says with a little bit of regret for the loss (and it might also be because of the small amount of alcohol that she had consumed that made her feel honest enough to say those words out loud).
She thinks for a short while and nudges her friend and tells her to hold her drink as she takes the other woman by the hand and leans in closer to her ear so she doesn’t have to shout, “we can try and clean that up. Come with me to the bathroom, and we can figure something out. I’d hate if you lost your night because of a silly mistake.”

after seccuring her drink, she made her way to the middle of the floor, slowly drifting from person to person as she danced. it was easy to loose herself in the music. it was like being transported to another world. her happy dancing was suddenly interrupted as she found herself spinning directly into a stranger, scowl immediately crossing her face. “hey, watch where you’re standing.” she grumbled, looking up to see who had ended up in her path.
Asami isn’t the type of person who goes out to party often. Not because she doesn’t like it or doesn’t want it, but more because she likes to follow the rules and avoid getting in trouble whenever she can. Unfortunately for her, the rules were about to get even stricter with the survival show approaching and even though she understands what kind of problem she got herself involved in, she can’t help but feel a little bit sad that soon, she’ll only be allowed one thing to focus. Her possible debut if she manages to charm enough people to vote for her.
It’s her last night before Select, and Asami is easily influenced by a friend to go with her clubbing as a goodbye before her life turns upside down. Asami doesn’t have the heart to tell her no, and the rules could only be applied if she was caught, and she is very careful. So, she goes with her friend. And she drinks a little bit more than she should, and she’s surrounded by different people who she had never seen before and who are probably too drunk to even remember they’ve seen her in a place like this. It’s fun.
It’s fun even when someone bumps into her and it’s not at all apologetic about it, and Asami is in too much of a good mood to upset her. She turns and smiles at the girl, not minding the call-out and shaking her head instead. “I’m sorry,” she says loud enough to make her voice carry over the music in the background. “I didn’t see you standing there. I hope that doesn’t spoil your night,” she says in her most charming way that is a little bit tipsy due to the alcohol, but it still looks attractive nonetheless.
“whether you try too hard to fit in or you try too hard to stand out, it is of equal consequence: you exhaust your significance.”
For some reason, Asami never felt particularly nervous in front of cameras. It wasn’t something she was used to, of course, because she had only done theater by the time she flew to Korea and started training to become something here. Even then, she held herself quite well whenever they had to do a camera test, and it wasn’t different now. They might be doing this for real this time, but it doesn’t mean Asami has a lot to be nervous about after all.
“Asami, take your position now. There’s no room for mistakes since there’s a lot of girls to go still, so work hard,” the staff tells her and makes an okay sign with his fingers asking if she’s ready to start. Asami takes a deep breath and slightly nods at him while not taking her eyes off the lenses of the camera.
She bows politely and smiles her best charming smile at the camera. Her hands are clasped in front of her and Asami tilts her head to the side mere centimeters before she starts talking. “Hello everyone, I’m Furukawa Asami, Yuju Entertainment’s trainee. It’s so very nice to meet you all,” she says sweetly as Asami pays extra attention to say all the words clearly despite her accent. “I’m a trainee for a little bit more than two years now, but I still have a lot of things I’d like to improve on myself. I hope that on Select, I’ll be capable of showing off my charms and be deserving of the fans’ support and love.” Asami had decided to go with the honest route even before she saw that compared to the others, her skills were not par. So, she hopes to stand out with what she knows she does best. Her charm.
She tucks a strand of hair behind her ear and quickly cups her chin between her thumb and index finger. “Now, up to something more interesting. Music, start, please.” And as soon as the words leave her lips, the sound of Phoenix’s Cherry Bomb fills the room, and she starts dancing to what she believes to be the most iconic part of the choreography. She stayed up a couple of nights before trying to make sure it looked flawless, but Asami knows that it isn’t the case. She does her best, though, and if she can’t deliver a spot-on performance, at least she knows her face can make up with that with how expressive she’s trying to be.
Once it’s over, she stands properly again and waves her hands ready to say goodbye. “I hope we can keep seeing each other, and I also hope you can support me in the future. Please vote for me, and thank you!”
however, she was determined to prove herself even further this round. thankfully, it would play to her more stronger points—dancing. if there was anything that she wasn’t doubtful of, it was her dancing skills. it’s only been a mere few hours since they’ve gotten their assignments, but eunbin couldn’t help but catch a familiar figure in the corner of her eye. while she wouldn’t say that she’s grown super close to asami over the months, she recalls helping her out back during i wish re-evaluations and right now, it looked like she could use some help with her own choreography.
“hey!” she says as she gives the other girl a tap on the shoulder. “has your team finished choreographing yet?”
Asami doesn’t know why or how she’s still part of the show and that she had votes enough to keep her in the competition. She knows that she has features and attributes that are very welcomed in this new country that she decided to ground her career on, but besides her pretty face, and occasional language misunderstandings that might or might not have caused a few laughs, Asami is still here by pure luck.
This bothers her more than she ever thought it could given the fact that she wasn’t as invested as many of the other girls, so Asami can say with certainty that she’s not as upset by it as some of her competitors would be if they were in her position. Of course, she doesn’t want to look incompetent or inadequate of being there, but the steps she’s able of taking are a lot shorter in comparison.
Thankfully there are people like Eunbin who have been like a constant angel to Asami from the moment they started this show. She turns when she feels the tap on her shoulder and is relieved to see that Eunbin had noticed her. “Eunbin-ssi, hello,” she says politely as she reaches out to tap Eunbin’s hand on her shoulder, “I don’t think so? They are still discussing a thing or two that they want to make better. What about your team?”
"they say if you dream a thing more than once, it's sure to come true."
Asami has been told before that she looks good in pink. It was never a thought she paid too much attention to since it’s just a color, but as the years passed and people had more and more to say about her appearance, the comment started sounding a bit dull in her ears. It’s not bad, and certainly not the only thing people have to point out whenever she’s involved, but the comment had stuck in the back of her brain for the longest time with no reason to be put into action.
But since then, so many things have changed. Asami graduated from college, she gave up her job at the café, moved to another country with minimal knowledge of pretty much everything, and is now part of a survival show that’ll pick fourteen girls to debut in a girl group. From acting to singing, Asami’s life had turned upside down with no chance of changing anytime in the foreseeable future.
She has been told that the Halloween party would be something the Select! girls were allowed to attend, and while she didn’t think it would be a good idea, especially because she’s still a trainee who barely knows anyone in the industry yet, others had ideas that this could be the perfect opportunity to promote Asami. They aren’t wrong, and she’s fully aware of that fact, so when they are discussing the costume for Asami to wear, she doesn’t even fight against it too much and just lets what has to happen, happen.
They couldn’t go with something too edgy after all, she’s still a trainee, and while she does want the attention, Asami can’t get all of it without some eyes rolling in distaste. And a part of her also acknowledges that even though this isn’t something she had always wanted, she still wants to be on the good side of the few people who do pay attention to her.
So they decide on something simple and cliché in the best way that clichés can be. Asami wears pink very well, and she already has a regal tone to her looks anyway. Aurora might as well be a very boring princess, but Asami doesn’t make it look like she’s the same as the inspiration for the costume. She has the charisma to hold it all together, after all.
