Granted, its rocky to start out with, the team that took the first pass at it...well lets just say, all the bad things you heard are absolutely true, but the new team in charge? Killing it rn. They took the scrungly greebled mess of the epilogues and hs^2 and are making something really interesting and cool out of it.

but a lot of my favorite parts of homestuck are the parts that got gutted and warped; while the overall story themes may be something i’d like, the gutting and total reworking of some of my favorite characters is frustrating. obviously fantasy stories are… not real so it is impossible for anyone to say “this is 100% what this character ACTUALLY should do,” like who can even decide that, the character isn’t real, but 1. i dont like many of the character arcs like. at all (why is jade possessed at least at the start of hs^2 that just sucks) (ultimate dirk and rose and john isolating himself from friends is not … great) 2. i do think the storytelling pacing & structure is too different from the OG which i enjoyed 3. other people sometimes act as though- even though it’s called Beyond Canon- if you dont agree with them on liking a character arc, it’s horrible and despicable of you. and that’s really not a tumblr drama i am interested in at all lmao i. am an adult.

i also struggle to appreciate the trans arcs given to characters probably mostly because i run genderqueer in the NB direction; so really understanding a binary transition in a character is kinda difficult for me; i also understand some like people suggesting NB jake, transmasc dave used to be super popular, etc which would make sense to me but i dont think thats in BC? maybe i just do not. get it. i understand Callie being nb THAT MAKES A LOT OF SENSE FOR THE STORY but transmasc roxy and june i am honestly a bit confused on. if theyre bringing joy to trans readers then i’m happy for them it just is very different to OG HS, where very few characters were ever “confirmed” anything-queer-labeling, which i feel like gave people more freedom to explore potential character backgrounds on the fan level and connect with characters in their own way. it was just a Different Way of Doing a Story. (like people could headcanon whatever they wanted and it was fun to compare notes, the possibilities were part of the fun and story value.) also i really dont need to know about characters genitalia more than necessary like re:jade ???
