âQuit being toxic jerks to other people. Try to stop talking about yourself for a minute and empathize with someone else. Itâll give you perspective. So many people use the golden rule for their life advice, but developing empathy is so much bigger and more important than that.â
â Day 365: Chuck (ME!), 30, Just a dude
Returning to this over a decade later and 30 "once-in-a-lifetime" societal traumas later. Some updated life advice:
Don't be unpredictable.
Diversify your media consumption.
Buy less.
Nurture your curiosity.
Incorporate practical exercise into your daily routine.
Get yourself a reliable group of friends that routinely do something together. For me, it's disc golfing most weekends and tabletop gaming a couple times a month.
Remember, you're going to die, but you also get to live.
Chuck (Me, again), 41, Dad of a 4-year-old, Husband
