clearly some of you have not been to the labyrinth of pestilence deep beneath kentucky
alright so when I was a teenager I went to this bug-themed summer camp for socially stunted nerds and on the way back from it I visited the university of kentucky. I met with an entomologist there and while we were touring the department he asked "wanna see something cool?" so he took me down an elevator to what must've been a sub-sub-sub basement on a card-access only floor, and after turning several more corners we went through two sets of (I'm not even exaggerating) 12-inch thick doors, opening onto one long as fuck corridor. each side of this hallway was lined with about 50 refrigerators. and each and every single one of these refrigerators was filled with hundreds of thousands. of live. bedbugs. the very reasonable explanation for this was that they were doing research on insecticides and needed to test them on real samples, but they could not under any circumstances allow them to escape, so they had to be kept under area 51 levels of overkill containment. but reasonable or not that was very much not what I anticipated seeing that day. so yeah. I decided after that I did not want to become an entomologist
absolutely baffled to get to the end of that story and hear you decide NOT to be an entomologist but possibly that's the entomologist in me speaking
as this breaches containment it is vital to me that The People know my problem with the bedbug labyrinth was NOT the bedbugs. that was obviously sick as fuck. the problem was it dawning on me how much entomology research is anti-bug instead of pro bug. weird girl equivalent of realizing how much time veterinarians spend putting down dogs

There should be more ace characters in media and more aro characters and more aroace characters and more aroallo character and more alloace characters and they should be in all sorts of different genres with all sorts of different personalities and relationships and storylines #yay
have u guys noticed the phenomenon that's like
- m/f ship between a nonblack man & a Black woman
- it's either canon (e.g. mel/jayce arcane, arthur/guinevere bbcmerlin) or entirely plausible (e.g. prism or coupé/robert dispatch)
- fanbase overwhelmingly pairs nb man off with another nb man and disengages from the Black woman character, shunting her into a background wise & sassy caretaker role (for which there is a name) or leaving her out of fanworks entirely
- fans who do this ^ claim it is an expression of love and admiration for the Black woman character, actually, bc the nb man (who may be her canonical partner) "can't handle all that" (he may be perfectly competent and engaged; she may be totally low maintenance; it has no bearing), she's just too wonderful (too much) and out of his league (lacking in flaws and interiority and fan appeal)
have we all observed this and can we see the multiple dimensions in which it is racist ☝️ i'm not bringing it up to make any beautiful fujos feel bad abt shipping this or that, just to ask for some consideration of what ppl are saying abt Black women when they make their excuses to each other. like you can just not make the excuses. yk?
I absolutely adore Blue, i was so happy one of my favorite things actually has a Black character in it, a soft, whimsical Black character with a canon partner who would do anything for him (which we don't get to see often at all), but i just knew immediately people were going to be werid about him 😭 and were only a few days into chapter 5 being out and im already seeing people say things about him that scream "if he wasn't Black you wouldn't be saying this"
It sucks that whenever we get new Black characters\representation, its always questioned, must have some kind of "reason" to be there, or perceived as the worst or least likable aspect of said media, it happens every single time.
Prism got a lot misogynoir against her, Coupé is barley represented in Dispatch fanart, Jabber's Black identity was frequently questioned, Mel is frequently subjected to some of the worst mischaraciztion and misogynoir ive ever seen in a fandom so much so her VA was shocked at the response to her character, Jacinthe's soft demeanor and style were constantly questioned beacuse shes a dark-skinned Black woman, Nessa being drawn as a monkey and whitewashed to filth, Wyll is deeply hated in the bg3 fandom despite being the nicest character in the main cast, the reaction to Sam (The falcon) becoming the new Captain America, characters like Darwin, Jazz, Marina and even Aisha are constantly having their Black identity and coding questioned despite it being extremely obvious or even outright confirmed, I could go on, there are so many examples.

can someone tell me what the appeal of ouran high school host club is
its oozing with transphobia and i genuinely cant stomach watching it past the first few episodes where its less blatant
also why does anyone like tamaki at all. does he ever stop being weirdly possessive towards haruhi and her dressing masc. it seems like his goal is to preserve her femininity / womanhood and like that combined with the way he treats her dad ?? it makes me really upset idk
it appealed to be because it was campy and also because of haruhi, and then i watched it and i was like "why are my trans friends recommending this to me" like. i guess with a layer of nostalgia you can block out most of the bad shit, i forgot just how much fan service was in soul eater until i watched it like 8 years later lol. but to watch it this decade, be trans yourself, and then recommend it to another trans person????? without warning them about the constant transphobia?????????
i want to like ouran high school host club because the concept of it sounds like so much fun, and most people in the same spaces as me enjoy it a lot. i want to see what they see in it. pls other trans people either tell me im not crazy or tell me why its good 😭
