The new EHRC Code of Practice pushes trans people out of toilets, hospital wards, and community spaces. It normalises gender policing based on appearance and stereotypes. It becomes statutory guidance in the UK by the end of June.
Trans people are now legally their assigned gender at birth and must join gendered spaces accordingly, but if they are perceived as their lived gender, they can also be ejected from those spaces. The guidance says: either break the law, or don’t pass too well.
A mass lobby is where you invite your MP to discuss your concerns with you in-person. Ask your MP to:
Demand full parliamentary scrutiny, debate, and use their free vote on the EHRC Code of Practice.
Support any motions rejecting the EHRC guidance. As of June 4th, Labour MP Nadia Whittome has submitted a prayer motion - Early Day Motion 240.
Write to Bridget Phillipson, the Minister for Women and Equalities about our concerns
Your MP does not have to be an ally, they do not have to respond to your email for you to show up and greencard them (details below the cut.) What matters is that as many people as possible show up.
I cannot stress this enough: Showing up in person matters. It is much more effective than petitions, emails, and letters.
It is a horrible, stressful time, and I am so sorry if you're trans and live in the UK. But I was at last year's mass lobby and the line for greencarding alone stretched around the back gates. Bring your personal worries about transphobia being signed into law, and trans friends being excluded from public spaces. You are a living person who deserves dignity. Remind your MP of that. You will also get guidance and brochures from Trans Solidarity Alliance that outlines our demands. This is mine from last year.

Got a refusal or no response from your MP?
Come anyway! You can request a same-day appointment with your MP through a process called greencarding. They will come and see you if they’re already in Parliament. Even if they don’t, they’re made acutely aware of your cause because you showed up in person. This is my greencard from last year.
Here is the EHRC Code of Practice in full. It's a tough read, but some highlights are:
Organisations can’t provide trans-inclusive, single-sex services, or they risk being sued for discrimination.
e.g. domestic violence support for women including trans women, men’s rugby group including trans men (12.68).
Trans people will have nowhere safe to pee.
If you’re a trans man, businesses can't allow you to pee in the men's, and you can also be ejected from women’s bathrooms if you’re perceived as a man. Vice versa for trans women. EHRC suggests a ‘third space’ bathroom, which is discriminatory and unworkable for most businesses. (13.130-133)
Sports organisations must exclude trans people from single-sex competitions (13.73).
A women’s only sports competition must exclude trans women because of their biological advantage or face potential lawsuits (13.74), but a trans man who has undergone testosterone treatment can also be excluded based on fairness rules (13.81).
Trans women are stripped of the legal definition of ‘lesbian’, and therefore no longer have legal protections if they’re discriminated against on the basis of sexual orientation. (2.50, 2.92).

there is no wrong way to be a system, there is no wrong way to be plural. every single origin a system and a headmate could have is valid, all of them. having just one and having many origins is a perfectly normal plural experience to have as well.

I feel like I need to share this because idk if Europeans are familiar with the presence of Aldi in the US, but at least especially in my area they’ve been growing a lot recently. Like Aldi bought out some local failing grocery chains where I live (Louisiana) and have opened Aldis in all these somewhat rural communities and small towns, which for the record I’m fine with
But as a result of this they are advertising a lot more in my area and also in many cases, the people in these areas have never been confronted with Aldi or any European grocery store. So the ads that Aldi is pushing out to its new US customer base feature a cowboy shopping at Aldi who is explaining to new Aldi customers how Aldi works. Like this cowboy is explaining you gotta put a quarter in the shopping cart and why there are very little name brands. A cowboy is how they want to reach their American customer base. I will move heaven and earth to see that fucking nipple, friend. I will walk a thousand miles barefoot on hot coals before I give you big brother bitches my passport number. A thousand miles through the desert with five VPNs just to press my face up against the glass and see the last uncensored picture of two My Little Pony Characters sixty-nining each other, and I don't even want! to look at it! the thing is that censorship actively makes it harder for people who don't like porn to avoid it. an uncensored internet will give people freedom to clearly state "there's porn here, don't look if you're not about that" without facing consequences for it and a sex repulsed bitch like me can just say okay and move on with their fucking life.
censorship forces the porn side of the internet to adapt and it's often in ways that make them more visible, not less. like people now refusing to use any of the inbuilt content filtering features on this site including basic tagging functionality because those things are now used to mark people as targets for censorship. so now there's just dicks waggling out in the open and no way to avoid them besides just depriving oneself of online community completely
bring back the uncensored internet and bring back community tagging. the right to post porn and the right to avoid it are the same right
sometimes i think about gender tourism in which you are designated as being akin to some sort of tourist to your gender. as if gender is a country that you can visit with its own culture, and the people who have deemed themselves as being inherently native have deemed you to be a tourist.
it doesn't really seem to matter how long you have been who you are, or how many skills you have acquired, or whatever else. no amount of innate being and lived experience seems to matter to the eyes of someone who does believe that other people can be gender tourists, and designates themselves as an authority on that gender over the people they have designated as a tourist.
it can be hard to spot such people, since oftentimes they aren't hateful. many of these people think of themselves as having very good intentions, wishing their best to help and inform the poor tourist who Must be so so clueless. they love explaining and helping the people that they have deemed as a tourist.
but they will still see you as a tourist. they will see you as an inherent foreigner, an inherent outsider, to your gender. and they will see themselves as an authority on gender in a way that they will never allow you to be in their minds. because they have designated you as a gender tourist and themselves as a local.
and again, these people often aren't hateful. at least, until you question why they have placed themselves on a level of inherent authority. or until you question why they have deemed you a tourist to your own gender.
Microaggressions against polyamory in interpersonal interactions are important and should be discussed, but I do wish more of the conversation focused on the ways that systemic amatonormativity impact things like family units, taxes, healthcare, inheritances, housing, childcare, etc.
I'm not dating or married or related to anyone I live with, and our household of four adults can't get any kind of financial or food or housing aid because we count as three separate households despite our semi-blended finances and living together for a decade. There are laws that have been proposed (at least, I don't know if any passed) that limit housing to nuclear families.
Amatonormativity and polyphobia are not just theoretical "people are kinda mean about this sometimes" -- they are real and materially impactful systemic issues, and they affect all of us.
