hhhhhhhhhhhmmmmmmmmmmmm
growth spurt
Headcanons for the Tulpar crewâs gaming experiences:
Curly: Canonically likes to play games and streams himself gaming. HeâsâŚdecent. Not great, but not terrible. His lack of popularity is due to the fact that he wants people to think heâs a cool, relaxed âgamer guyâ and it comes off as very fake and try-hard. His chat often enjoys mocking him just as much as they enjoy watching him (often in ways that go over Curlyâs head). He mostly plays generic hero shooters like Fortnite and wastes a bunch of his money/credits on buying âcoolâ in-game skins to impress his chat.
Jimmy: Does not play games at all. Heâs barely even online. To him, video games are a waste of time and money. He thinks that when Curly streams he looks like a desperate idiot trying to convince himself that heâs still young and cool. He regularly interrupts Curlyâs stream to nag him to pick up his clothes or to call him for dinner. Whenever he appears Curlyâs chat goes nuts for him and heâs considered the highlight of the streams. Jimmy is a (very) minor internet celebrity and he has no idea.
Anya: She likes to play games, but she wouldnât really call herself a âgamerâ. She mostly plays cozy, relaxed games like Animal CrossingâŚhowever she is extremely competitive when playing mobile games. Her high score on the Candy Crush leaderboard is not to be fucked with!
Daisuke: He considers himself a huge gamer with a very board range of gaming interests. Heâs super into JRPG MMORPGs like Final Fantasy. He has all the lore memorised and has sunk hundreds of hours into the games. He also canonically likes retro games as well, especially old Gameboy GameKid games. He regularly goes to his local arcade to feed the machines with quarters, but more often just ends up wasting most of his money on the claw machine trying to win that super rare arcade exclusive plushie for his collection. His bedroom is full of video games, consoles (both old and new) and gaming merchandise.
Swansea: Heâs never been much for video games, but his son loves them and he unwillingly dragged his father into the world of gaming. They used to play old Mario Party games and racing games together. When his son got older he bought an old arcade cabinet for the two of them to fix up together as a project. That cabinet is currently the centrepiece of Swanseaâs basement/game room and it still works perfectly.

Anya is a horrible nurse idk why you guys are saying she was a good one
No fr tho
Being a nurse doesnât just entail medical knowledge. Being a nurse involves intrapersonal skills.
When I trained as a CNA and was doing clinicals (hands on patient care in a nursing home) (before covid) we were not allowed to put masks on to do things that didnât require ppe. Not because they wanted to keep us from protecting ourselves, because masks scare patients into thinking thereâs something much worse wrong. We also werenât allowed to react to smells (though we were allowed to put scented oil or vicks under our noses if we struggled with a smell, we just couldnât be obvious about it), icky wounds or sores, or any other inevitable consequences of having a body that needs medical care. Because that makes the patient feel bad. Because that makes the patient feel less than human.
A nurseâs job is to care for a human in every sense, and that includes making them feel human and to minimize making that person feel like a burden as much as possible.
Anya fails MISERABLY at her interpersonal duties as a nurse. She treats her patient as a thing, a burden, a horror.
Itâs part OF the horror, how badly she and the others fail to care about curly as a human being.
It mirrors how disabled folks are treated irl. Curly is sequestered in the medical, alone, helpless, immobilized with pain, poorly cared for (you cannot tell me they stocked the ship with five years of rations but didnât stock the medical with enough bandages to do wound care and basic pain reduction for months for each person on board at LEAST, not to mention he should be receiving IV fluid and liquid nutrition, eyedrops, his mouth should be wetted periodically, and he should be kept much warmer). And all of that IS Anyaâs fault - regardless of her personal issues, if she is unable to care for a patient it is her JOB to teach someone else to do his care and ensure that care is being done. She does none of that.
Anyaâs a bad nurse, regardless of her own struggles - she is part of the horror.
YEAH... After watching Jim Sterling's video about mouthwashing it like. Really sunk in that people completely brush over how post crash Curly was treated by everyone, including Anya??
Sheâs not the worst nurse and sheâs not a brainless ditz, but I wouldnât say sheâs the greatest nurse that ever existed. She was a human being who tried her best to be a good nurse to the crew and to Curly after he got wounded from the crash. She wasnât perfect and made mistakes and yeah you can bring up how her trauma made doing her job difficult. Plus we know PE didnât give them enough supplies and necessities and didnât give her proper training( fuck Pony Express).
But Iâm not going to ignore that she treated Curly like a burden, even if she didnât intend to, and allowed Jimmy to be alone with him despite what he did to her. have a theory that she locked herself in the medbay because she wanted to talk to Curly about what really happened between her and Jimmy and to apologize for not being the nurse he needed. Her corpse was right next to Curly so Iâm sure she had a deep heart to heart with him.
I agree with this. Anya isnât a medical miracle worker, but she isnât incompetent or completely useless as a nurse either. I canât imagine that anyone in her position would handle the situation gracefully. Curly was basically on deathâs door anyway (at first Anya was the one who wanted to give Curly a mercy killing) and Curly was a man who failed to protect her so badly that, even if he wasnât horrifically injured, I canât see her wanting to spend anymore time with him than necessary.
Iâll probably get sh*t for this, but I think some people (probably because they hate Jimmy so much) tend to make the other characters better and more perfect than actually are - just like how some people act as if Swansea was some kind of parental substitute protecting the rest of the crew. Heâs not. Heâs not evil, but he wasnât watching out for anyone either. His lack of action led to Daisuke getting dragged into Jimmyâs shortsighted plan to get to the medical room through the broken ventâŚHe knew Jimmy was dangerously unstable, yet he did nothing to warn Daisuke.
TLDR: Anya is not a paragon of virtue and a secret medical genius when under pressure, sheâs just a human with flaws who makes mistakes and was at her worst moment - the same as everyone else on the ship.
Headcanons for the crewâs drinking habits/what they liked to drink that wasnât dragon breath mouthwash:
Curly: He likes drinking almost as much as he likes eating! His tolerance for alcohol is impressive and he often went out to the pub/bar on weekends along with Jimmy and his other friends. Heâs happy with a regular chilled beer, or three (or five) but upgrades to whiskey when heâs feeling more indulgentâŚor depressed.
Jimmy: Not really a big drinker and he has a very low tolerance. When at the bar with Curly he tries to match him drink for drinkâŚand he always ends up wasted; needing to he carried back home. He doesnât even like beer that much. He much prefers something sweeter, like those fruity cocktails that come with a little umbrella, but he will never order them himself, and is embarrassed and ashamed for secretly liking them. In his mind theyâre âgirly drinksâ only enjoyed by women and effeminate menâŚ
Anya: A non social drinker. She canonically likes to unwind at the end of a long week with a large glass of wine, and a kebab, while watching trash TV. She doesnât have a particular preference for what type of wine it is, but itâs usually whatever the minimart has in stock thatâs not too expensive.
Daisuke: Him drinking?! Never! You must have the wrong guy, man! And he definitely never snuck out of the house to go to a party with alcohol before he turned 21âŚbuuuuut if he did have a favourite drink it would be one of those ones made with sweet fruit punch mixes that are so strong you can barely taste all the vodka mixed in!
Swansea: Before he got sober he would drink anything as long as it would keep him buzzed. If you asked him what his favourite drink was heâd say something to the effect of âwhateverâs in my hand right nowâ. However, since he swore off of alcohol, heâs become a fan of sodas, and heâs trying to see how many different flavours are actually available. Heâs even bought some exotic flavours, usually only sold commercially in foreign markets, off of the internet just to experience them. His favourite is still the classic âAmerican creamâ but, to his surprise, he really enjoyed the âTibetan Green Teaâ flavoured soda as well.

guys. listen to me. grabbing you by the shoulders.
mouthwashing isn't about rape. it isn't an allegory for rape. it's not about the consequences of rape. it's not about rape. rape is just something that is implied to have happened inside the game's timeline.
it's not the rape game. you are horribly watering down the game's message if you think it's only about rape. yes there is a lot of symbolism related to rape but that is because it takes place in jimmy's mind as he is trying to process guilt.
mouthwashing is about avoiding accountability. mouthwashing is about the horrors of humanity. mouthwashing is about failing to hold yourself and peers accountable. mouthwashing is about the flaws and evils of capitalism. mouthwashing is about a corporation so corrupt that it allows its workers to eat each other alive just to get paid. it is so much more than a rape game.
Yes! Jimmy is not a good person, but reducing him down to âthe evil rape manâ who assaults women for fun on the regular, has no humanity, and claiming that everyone elseâs problems would just disappear if he died is not the answer. Anya wouldnât magically become a successful girlboss, Daisuke wouldnât magically get his life on track, Swansea wouldnât suddenly start seeing the crew as his adopted children and Curly wouldnât just overcome his depression.
Mouthwashing is a story where everyone was at their worst moment and no one knew how to help.
Please tell me you still exist???? Like I just got into Mouthwashing only to find a mostly dead fandom.
Save me please!!!
Welcome to the madness đ

âJimmy likes to eat as much as the next guy but he's happy to share what he has. Nobody should go hungry.â
I love that WO themselves are the biggest âJimmy was a normal guy with issues, who went completely insane due to isolation, stress and untreated mental illnessâ truthers out there.
I donât think they have ever actually said anything like: âJimmy is, and always was, an irredeemable monster, with no good qualities whatsoever, who should have been abortedâ like so many others have doneâŚ
I keep hearing people saying âoh Captain Curlyâs so Golden Retriever codedâ or âIf Curly were a dog he would totally be a Golden Retrieverâ. No. Curlyâs dogsona is this thing:
Do you see the vision?
I need more practice, but I think I have a general idea.
(It's not Blender, it's Photoshop with Paint Tool SAI, but I'll have Blender soon)
And if you're reading this, T0ri, the baby is still alive and fluffy! đ°â¨
The Curly Bunny returns! A blessed day! Now make him do this!
Headcanons for the Tulpar crewâs pets:
Curly: Always wanted to own a pet, but heâs never at home long enough to take care of one. When he was a kid, he and his brothers used to beg their parents to let them get a family dog, but his mother always refused; saying that âtaking care of four wild boys was enough!â
Jimmy: None, for pretty much the same reasons as Curly, but when he was on Earth he used to enjoy feeding the pigeons and crows with whatever scraps he could find to give themâŚat least until the city started cracking down with heavy fines for anyone caught âattracting pestsâ.
Anya: She doesnât have any pets exactly, but there are some homeless cats living near her apartment building, and she often buys wet food pouches just so she can leave it out for them. The cats know who is leaving them the food, and so they always brush up against her legs whenever they see her and are happy to receive pets.
Daisuke: He lives with pets, but theyâre not really his. His mother owns a few spoiled, fluffy Persian cats that donât like him very much because he often accidentally steps on their tails or sits on them by mistake when theyâre sleeping on the couch. (âTheyâre the same colour as the throw pillows!â) He wants to find a way to get them to like him, but theyâre not really interested.
Swansea: Canonically a dog dad! He loves his dog to pieces and the feeling is very much mutual! He has a picture of his beloved dog sitting on his workstation. While his wife looks after the dog whenever Swansea is away, make no mistake, he their dogâs favourite parent. When he comes home from a long haul he knows heâs going to get attacked with doggie kisses and a lot of excited barking!
*screams and frows up*
In the another timeline, where the ship didnât crash and everyone lived.
Honestly the idea of Jimmy, after all the hell he put himself, Anya, and everyone else through, wanting to get away from his mistakes and freaking out about how his life is going ruined by this baby âŚonly to end up actually liking his kid once it arrives feels both ridiculous and yet also the most canon Jimmy thing everâŚ

Theory: Why werenât there locks on the doors to the sleeping quarters? I think Anya answered her own questionâŚ
We know that the lack of a lock on the door sleeping quarters was how Jimmy got in Anyaâs room to sexually assault her, but Curlyâs response is interesting: for âsafetyâ
We know that Pony Express is a very cheap and substandard company and Anyaâs lines above seem to imply that she thought the only reason they didnât fit locks on the Tulpar was due to budget cuts - PE being both âcheap or lazy. Probably both.â (which they are), however I donât think Curly was lying about the claim this was done due to safety concerns either.
Throughout the story we also get implications that other people on PE hauls have gone insane and violent in the void of space, leading to a lot of restrictions on the availability of luxury items (like sweeter), very strict rules, collective punishment for breaking said rules, as well as all PE Captains being equipped with a gun to murder any crewman acting outâŚbut while some people got violent, doesnât it also seem likely that others would have the opposite reaction and start self harming in their misery? Pony Express employees locking themselves in their rooms and taking their own lives? (Even before things went past the point of no return, Jimmy was already rapidly going insane, Swansea was basically checked out of life even before he got fired and Curly himself was not exactly the picture of positive mental health)
Removing the locks seemed like Pony Expressâs way of preventing death by allowing employees to get to their fellow workers in time to stop them from committing suicide, all without having to spend any money on psychiatric training for their nurses or improving living conditions on their ships. They likely kept the lock on the medical room door to prevent depressed employees from having easy access to pills in order to ODâŚ
EDIT: @bitchchan77 (couldnât find the exact post where they originally said it, sorry) had a great suggestion that the reason the cockpit was the only other room with a functioning lock was because crewman on past PE hauls had also done the same thing as Jimmy, and intentionally crashed their ships in deep space in order to kill themselves and take everyone else out with them - Itâs likely Pony Express either didnât plan for a pilot to go insane, or they just wanted to minimise the amount of people that could get to the cockpit in order to crash the ship, so it would be a less likely possibility.
While Anya didnât have a lot of other options to escape the Tulpar except for death, her locking the door led to Jimmy panicking about Curly being locked behind the door with her, and Jimmyâs terrible, poorly thought out reaction was to send Daisuke up the vent to his death, but even if the vent had been safe for Daisuke, Anya was already long dead by the time Daisuke managed to open the door to the medical room, so (even if anyone had first aid training) no one could have saved her anyway.
TLDR: The lack of locks on the sleeping quarter doors was due to Pony Express being âcheap and lazyâ but it was their cheap and lazy solution to a much, much bigger problem than budgetingâŚ
Omg thanks so much for mentioning what I said. I wanna hug you to show my thanks cause this means a lot đĽšđ¤
No problem! Thanks for the reply! I always enjoy reading your MW posts! đ¤
