Thaumaturge hot take: Dziadzio Upyr is a cliche representation of the First Commonwealth nobility's ethos and self-image.

He swings a curved saber, he wears a characteristic thick fur cap, his hand adorned with signets, he taps with his cane impatiently.

His Focus Attack is 'Liberum Veto', named after a controversial rule of the noblemen's sejmiki upheld during the First Commonwealth. According to a certain simplification, replicated in early school teachings (I'm no historian so don't beat me), the noblemen's sejmiki followed the rule of unanimity, and Liberum Veto allowed every representative to interrupt the sejmik and suspend or even cancel it.

Another hint is Wiktor's fatal flaw, that he happens to share with our acquired stereotypical perception of the XVI-XVIIth century nobility: pride, obstinacy, arrogance, contrarianism. All clothes available for Wiktor are named after some variant of these. Upyr was attracted to Wiktor as a rich boy growing up on the nobility's ideals of his father's lineage.

What comes without a doubt, the noble status of the Szulskis seems to be highlighted in parallel with their supernatural lineage: it is inherited, it creates a sense of responsibility, it's a vessel of flaw and intergenerational toxicity, and it might give one a sense of superiority over others (like Wiktor admits about seeing Abaurycy's father's workshop).

burnt my holidays for this game and it took about 18 hours to the ending. i sided with coterie. combat was kinda dull and it'd been better to focus on world building by adding more side quests rather than listing minor points of interest. couldn't shake the feeling that it could've been more...intense? but overall it's been fun. i already started second playthrough. this time in english but i never like the way they pronounce "warsaw" lol

There are a lot of RPGs with no romanceable characters, but the way The Thaumaturge deals with this is very funny to me. Wiktor has the option to flirt with several people during the game (Wanda, Samira, Abaurycy...), only for them to immediately tell him to fuck off. The man canonically has no game despite being a professional manipulator. Truly the most bitchless magician in all of Poland
