progressive? conservative? in front of my hansry?
henry and hans's friendship is beautiful and all that but honestly? their interactions from kcd1 came as another homosocial bonding ritual to me(doesn't mean it's less impactful or fake). i mean as far as i can tell this kind of deep, heart-to-heart, (hu)man-to-(hu)man connection has been always a thing and praised through history(idk maybe except shipping spaces? ironically that is). such cherishment often implies that men can be the only equal beings and woman is a lesser one with her imperfect heart. and i think kcd is never free from this accusation.
there's a conservative tendency to ask more ✨️plausibility✨️ for the existence of queer relationship too, which is funny bc response to that was what made hans romance good from the first place. so i wasn't surprised to hear pan vavra claim the romance was written not to be wokey-wokey. but if i really have to distinguish the real progressive aspect from this whole thing, it would be the fact that they actually acknowledged that, said manly (hu)man-to-(hu)man bond CAN(won't say must or should. too allonormative for my taste) lead them into sexual or romantic territory. the fact that it can function as a plausibility. maybe this is the most sacrilegious thing for someone. such a duality. what a route. what a game.
