Re: the filmās reviews, there may be issues with pacing/editing/accents but most all of them say the performances are great and that Tom Hardy is excellent. I think this cerebral, adult fare would have been better served with an autumn release, however itās here now and given the compelling actors ā Hardy, Oldman, Rapace, Jason fkn Clarke ā it is totally worth seeing. Ignore the critics and Go.
Having said that, I will now pay attention to the critics by quoting some of their words about Tom. :d
As for Tom Hardy, surely among the greatest British actors of his generation ā and perhaps the most audacious and least conventional ā his forceful, frightening performance as an involuntary Soviet Dante continues along his ironic career arc. If you havenāt seen Hardy in the films āBronsonā and āLocke,ā or as Heathcliff in āWuthering Heightsā and Bill Sikes in āOliver Twistā (both of those for the BBC), then, Iām sorry, but you have no idea. Heās the best reason to see āChild 44,ā but it likely wonāt make him better known on this side of the Atlantic (where he may forever be the mask-wearing, unintelligible Bane in āThe Dark Knight Risesā) or help him avoid a Hollywood future playing violent lunatics and action sidekicks.
