"Of course I win," she scoffed. As if there was even an alternative. She rolled her eyes, bringing a hand up to run long, slender fingers through her hair, pushing it back out of her face. Of course, it fell right back down into place, framing her face, as she turned to where Icarus rounded the console.
At his question, she gave a small shrug and reached for her research kit.
"I need more soil samples for Tara anyway. Oh, which reminds me... Tara?"
There was a beat of silence before a disembodied, feminine voice spoke up.
"What was your analysis of that water sample Icarus brought back this morning?"
When Icarus had gone to set the traps, Artemesia had sent him off with a few vials to collect water samples from a nearby water source they'd found. Their food and water supplies had been made to last two years and they'd managed to stretch it to five years since it was only two or them, and they'd only been awake for less than a year of that time. Unfortunately, by the time they'd found a habitable planet with a semi-intelligent species, they'd been down to their last few weeks. And that supply was growing smaller and smaller now that they were awake longer than before.
Hopefully, Icarus's traps had caught something edible. And hopefully the water sample was...
"The water in sites 1 through 4 was too contaminated for consumption," the A.I. replied. Artemesia's jaw clenched, her sharp gaze turning toward Icarus. "However," the computer continued, "the water in Site 5 is suitable for bathing, and the water in sites 7 and 9 is within acceptable parameters for consumption."
A sigh of relief. At least that was one less worry, and a pleasant surprise that one of those water sources could be used for bathing, if needed. While the artificial shower was nice, feeling water on her skin again was something she craved.
"Let's go, then. Before we lose daylight."
