I think flinching is such a hit or miss reflex. Like yea a tiny bit of boiling water touched my hand but i dont think reflexivly throwing the water everywhere is a good defensive measure perhaps. might be even worse actually

The skyward flight novellas are just Jorgen Weight having the few worst weeks of his life: imagine that the girl you like is currently MIA, you and your planet almost got eaten by a cosmic horror, your mom is pissed at you for telling people that your cytonic, your boss expects you to figure out faster than light travel, your flight mates are making fun of you, your leadership, and your love life, not necessarily in that order, you have been repeatedly injured because of magical slugs, you’re haunted by your not dead girlfriend at inopportune moments who is currently in another dimension on a magical quest, almost eaten by a space monster, the hyperdrive slugs that a supposed to be a secret keep revealing themselves to potential enemies, you’re government is trying to negotiate with your oppressors for peace, which would include you being turned over to them, you’re too autistic to realize your boss is basically telling you to go defect, you get involved with another planet’s politics, your parents and a good part of your government get blown up, your boss and your girlfriend’s grandmother are now missing, talking rodents want to talk alliance with you, you literally explode in a session of congress, you accidentally move your planet to another solar system, and the then your boss buts you in charge the military at eighteen a job you don’t want.
