The thought strikes him so hard his head starts to ache. It’s not his fault he’s in this situation. There’s nothing he can do to change it. He doesn’t have to feel guilt for this. A literal, physical wave of pain rolls through Buck. He can't help the tears that form in his eyes. He's just gotten over crying. He doesn't want to do it again.

“Me too,” he responds shakily.

“And I would be really scared if you or Daddy were going to get hurt too,” Nico continues. “Or Grandma, or Chris, or Auntie Maddie…”

He lists off what amounts to probably every single person he knows and loves.

“But mostly I think you and Daddy.”
