——    ✰        astro   considered   himself   a   very   positive   person ;  with   it   being   pretty   difficult   for   life   to   weigh   down   on   him.   even   if   things   were   bad,   astro   could   always   hold   onto   the   hope   that   tomorrow   might   be   better.  even   when   the   world   was   dark,   and   everyone   &   everything   seemed   to   be   against   him,  he   held   onto   his   hope   &   eventually,   he   prevailed. 

——    ✰        but   today   was   a  bit   different,  with   the   rather   bleak   state   of   everything   having   come   down   on   him   a   bit   harder   than   it   usually   did.   astro,   who   had   simply   been   planning   to   have   a   fun   day,   was   now   weighed   down   &   defeated;   simply   resigning   himself   to   lay   down   on   the   couch  for   the  majority   of   the   day. 

——    ✰        &   that   was   how   he   had   remained   for   a   majority   of   the  day,   simply   resigned   to   his   fate   of   half-sleep   for   the   entire   day,   until   his   sister meandered   her   way   to   the   couch,   deciding   to   elegantly   plop   herself   down   on   top   of   him   and   wrap   him   in   a   coil   hug. 

——    ✰        smiling   down   at   her,   he   shifts   in   order   to   wrap   his   arms   around   her   (   although   he’s  still   playing   the   game  )   &   rests   his   head   on   top   of   her   own   as   he   lets   out   a   soft   sigh  ;   seeming   to   relax   a   bit.  nelle   was   always   good   at   making   him   feel   better,  &   he   was   hopeful   his   sibling   would   stay   around   for   a   while   so   they   could   talk.  

❛           well,   will   you   at   least   let   me   heal   you,   sylv?   ❜

——    ✰      steven   questions,  hopeful   that   he   will   work   with   him   on   this   one.  even  if   sylvester   was   insistent   that   it   was   nothing,   steven   still   wanted   to   heal   anything   up    regardless.   after   all,   he   was   sure   that   even   bruises  weren’t   exactly   comfortable   to   have.   he   softly    squeezes   sylvester’s   hand   as   he   takes   it   in   his,   fingers   intertwining   in   order   to    hold   his   hand   more   properly.  

❛       yeah --  i  guess!   but  ,  still ,   what   even  happened  ?     ❜

——    ✰     astro   had   spent   so   long   of   his   life   being   pushed   down ,  invalidated ,  trampled   by   other’s   feelings.   was   it   because   he   didn’t   think  his   own   mattered  ?   yes --  but   that   wasn’t   the   entire    story.   he’d   learned   that   from   someone -   from   the   gems.   just   like   everything   else  ,  they    did   this   to   him.    (   he   wanted   to   scream  ,   yell  ,   punch   something.  )  but    ;   he   makes   no   movements --   refusing   to   let   nelle   see   any   more   to   this   uglier   side   he   has.  

❛     i   just --   i   don’t  --     ❜

——    ✰     he   bites   his   tongue   hard   in    that   moment ,  hard   enough   that   he   feels   the   cut  form ;  the   barely   tangible   tinge   of   rust   before   the   wound   repairs   itself.   (   i    guess   that   was   helpful ,  he   didn’t   have   to   explain   the   cut.  )   &   the   halo   around   him   brightens   for   a   moment   or   two.  (   the   twinge   of   pain   in   his   head   that   comes   with   it   is   enough   to   send  a   shudder   throughout   his   body.  )

——    ✰     tears   well   up   in   his   eyes   from   it   (   or   is   it   just   the   stress ?   he’s   so   sensitive   he   can   hardly   tell.  )   and   he   finally   looks   back   up   at   her --   small   bright   pink   pupils   meeting   her    own   heart   eyes   as   he   says   only   one   more   thing ,   tears   already   beginning   to   slip   down   his   face. 

❛     what’s   that   supposed   to   mean  ?!   when   have   i   ever   hurt   you  ??    ❜

——    ✰       astro   his   voice   is   quiet ,  not   raising   enough   to   be   considered   yelling ;  but   the   sharp   tinge   to   it   is   very   appearent.   after   everything ,  after   months   of   tiptoeing   around   anything   that   could   possibly   hurt   her ,  after   doing   all   he   could   to   make  this --  this   interloper   feel   welcome --  she   was   scared   of   him  !  

——    ✰     he   wants   to   reassure   her   that   everything   is   fine ,  but   his   entire   body   twitches   involuntarily   with   power ;  and   he   tightly   clenches   his   fists   in   some   attempt   to   stop   the   trembling   in   his   hands ,  to   prevent   the   halo   of   light   around   his   head   from   getting   any   brighter.   he   grits   his   teeth ,  looking   at   the   floor.   (    this   is     what   he   gets   for   trying   to   hold   it   together.   more   prodding ,  more   demanding   for   answers ,  more   self-focused   garbage.  ) 

——    ✰      why .   why   did   nelle   have   to   end   up   just   like   cherry  ?   just   like   everyone   else   in   his   life   ?   he   wants   to   be   angry   about   it ,  wants   to   yell   and   scream ;  to   break   things ;  to   let   all   of   his   rage   out.   (   he   doesn’t   want   to   be   hurt   anymore.  )   but   it   feels   like   with   every   single   person   he   meets ,  it’s   only   a   matter   of   time   until   they   hurt   him.   (   how   ironic ,  that   his   closest   friend’s   the   one   who   does   him   in.   ) 

——    ✰       before   he   can   move  ,  cry   out ,   scream  --   he’s   dropped   just   as   suddenly   as   he   was   picked   up ;  hitting   the   floor   with   a   thud.   his   entire   body   trembles   as   his   eyes   remain   closed ,  his   entire   body   in   fight   or   flight.  he   feels   completely   helpless ,  pathetic ,  broken.   he   doesn’t   know   what   he’s   gonna   do  without   nelle ;  he   just   wants   to   die.  

❛    please --   just   ....      ❜

——    ✰         his   voice   is   low ,  quiet ,  clearly   he’s   ashamed   of   what   he’s   saying.   but   the   fact   of   it   is   is  that   if   nelle   wants   him   to   die ,  he’ll   let   her   do   it.   for   the   past   three   years   astro’s   been   living   every   day   as   an   uphill   battle.  (   he’s   sick   of   it.   )   even   if   he   barely   manages   to   speak   through   the   lump   in   his   throat ,  and   the   tears --    his   message   is   clear.

 ——    ✰       astro   is   quick   to   blush   at   the   words ;  clearly   nebby   means   them --  he   can   just   tell   by   the   way   she   talks.   she’s   always   been   such   a   passionate   person ,  someone   who’s   been   so  inspired   by   the   world   around   her.    so ,  astro   had   gotten   curious   about   it  --   asked   her   where   her   inspiration   came   from.   &   she   had   surprised   him ,  by   telling   him   that  he   was   her   inspiration. 

——    ✰     he   smiles   at   her ,   beyond   happy   that   she   thinks   so   highly   of   him.   even   if   it   wasn’t   the   same   as   artistic   inspiration ,  she   meant   so   much   to   him   to ;   he’d   fight   through   anything   that   homeworld   (   or   any   rogue   gems  )   would   throw   at   him ,  just   if   it   meant   he’d   get   to   see   her   smile.    leaning   forward ,  he   softly   takes   her   cheek   in   his   hand ,  feeling   the   warmth   of   her   skin   under   his   gentle   touch.

——    ✰       he   questions ,  almost   unable   to   believe   the   response.   all   of   his   life   was   filled   with   trials ,  things   were   never   as   easy   as   this   felt.    but   he’d   said   yes --  and   steven   didn’t   even   know   how   to   react   other   than   a  quick   burst   of   joyous   laughter ,  having   to   take   all   his   self   control   to   not   begin   waving   his   hands   from   the   sheer   joy   that   he   felt   in   this   moment.  

——    ✰       steven    focuses   away   from   her ,   gathering   his   thoughts   to   his   best   ability.   the   last   few   years   were  stressful ,  hard   to   move   through  --  because   he   just   felt   so   out   of   place.   everyone   managed   to   move   on   with   their   struggles ,  getting   better   with   his   support   and   love.   but   soon   after   all   of   this ,  steven   realized   that  he   hadn’t   moved  on  --   that   he   wasn’t   happy.  (   it   all  weighed  him   down   so   much.  )  &   with   such  a   sudden   realization , he   was   left   anxious --  and   unsure   of   what   to   do   with   himself. 

——    ✰       the   only   way   steven   can   describe   himself  is   as   exhausted,   &  worn   out.  it   was   a   spectacle   to   behold ,  as   he  simply   spiraled   more   &   more.   he   always   just   felt   like   he   was   falling   apart,   and   just   barely   piecing   himself   back   together   each   &   every   time.  (   it   was   rough.   life   was   rough.  )   &   to   an   extent ,  he   was   sick   of   lying   about   it.   so  , he   looks   her   in   the   eyes,   and   he   speaks   again.
