it is driving me insane seeing more posts that seem to think that telling people with restrictive diets (largely people with ARFID/autistic people with sensory issues) "you need a balanced diet or else your body will fall apart and you'll die miserably" will work, especially with the sentiment of "I'm autistic and I managed to overcome it". because here's the thing: we know. we know that it's bad for us. we know that a restrictive diet is unhealthy and will likely fuck us up in the future. I'm one of the lucky ones who managed to avoid most nutrition deficiencies (recently got blood tests to check), but even I frequently think to myself that no matter what I do, living with this disorder for so long will just do me in sooner or later. it's not pro-recovery, you're just being condescending. if you really wanted to help people recover, maybe try something besides threats and shame that just re-enforce the dread we feel for the future. we do need to recover, but in a way that actually understands what the disorder does to us in order to properly combat it.
