You know, on one hand, I really want the prophecy to be real, because I want desperately to feel like this all has some meaning, like I have a destiny. But I'm also doubtful, and rightfully so. That's part of what is so insidious about cults and the control they have over your mind. They prey on your fear and your doubt. They make you hate and fear anyone and anything else, but they also make you hate yourself. You're supposed to feel worthless and lost without them, you're supposed to be afraid of feeling that way, you're supposed to let the fear stop you. That's how they keep you. I guess what I mean to say is that I worry that the prophecy isn't real because I'm afraid of feeling like my life has been pointless abuse and torment for one man's amusement, and that none of it ever meant anything more than that.
I kinda get something similar to this! :D but for me it's mostly because I'm a little genderfluid and definitely genderqueer, but most of the time, being called she or girl or stuff like that by people who see me a certain way feels like an attempt to ignore or erase my queer identity. And it's very unfortunate because I, as a man, love femininity and womanhood, but I can't partake in any of it because if I do, it feels like people won't (and don't in most cases) see me as a queer man, they'll just see me an attention seeking woman. Another aspect of that is that people who already view me as a woman for my proximity to womanhood also see me as the wrong kind of woman, and always have, even before I knew I was trans. I'm loud and confident, openly believe in fighting for marginalized communities even if you aren't a part of that community, I wear masculine clothing, I speak in a purposefully masculine voice, I'm fat, I'm hairy, I'm intersex, I'm proudly queer, and I don't see anything wrong with any of that. I know who I am, and I know what others do not see me as, the parts of my identity they refuse to even acknowledge, let alone respect.
yes conservatism is on the rise yes tradwife content is as popular as ever yes pink jobs and blue jobs are fucking stupid BUT there is still such a big change in how straight women are talking about relationships online.
they're talking about how they're no longer interested in dating because their female friends treat them better than boyfriends do. they're realizing that being single is always better than being in a bad relationship. it's becoming a lot more normal and fun and hot for women to be single at any age. the women who have settled down with truly good men in truly happy relationships are encouraging other women to not take any shit because the right man won't need to be "trained". they're talking about how their mothers and grandmothers warned them to get a job and not get married, and they followed the advice.
tradwife content is performance. it's propaganda. there are so few women actually living that life. but we know for a fact that more women than ever are educated, working, and single. and all I see (admittedly in my woke ass algorithm) is women talking about how they're done settling for mediocre relationships. and I love it.
The rise in tradwife propaganda isn't a sign we're losing. It's a sign we're winning. They need to push this propaganda because women are increasingly waking up and being open about the consequences of trad dynamics. And that terrifies conservatives because their control over women and the family unit is how they exercise control over society.
Can confirm, the trad family/nuclear family dynamic is a breeding ground for abuse, isolation, control, and many other harmful things. And I really do think that part of the reason the big cults synonymous with the 60s/70s kinda died out (The fact they haven't *really* is another discussion), is because the dynamic's focus shifted to smaller groups with tighter control, such as the families encouraged by the trad movement. Especially considering that a large part of the trad movement is typically religiously centered, with the "man of the house" acting as an extension of the church and state authority within the home.

No one really talks about the casual extent to which the leader always being right pervades everyday life.
One of the main things about a cult leader is that they are always right, always, even if they aren't, no matter how small the disagreement is. They will find a way to make you wrong, and by extension, make themselves correct, because they condition you to believe that their default state is being correct. So if you're not right, they are automatically.
That being said, there is a reason for that. And that reason is because cult leaders present themselves as infallible, as above others, as knowing what is best for everyone, because that is required to condition you to see their word as the end all be all. You're supposed to see them, and by extension their actions and words, as incapable of flaw.
Because of that, many will get defensive or outright violent when questioned, because they see being questioned as a threat to their power and position. So even if they are wrong, you aren't supposed to say it, you're supposed to cower, submit, and tell them they're right, or at least stay silent.
What they really are is incredibly talented at reading people, and pattern recognition. So they often will be highly correct in certain categories of perception, and will actively use that to manipulate you, to prove that they are ALWAYS right, and if they aren't... That doesn't count.
The main outcome of this is something that is present in every situation, and exampled quite well by an interaction I witnessed with my own leader today.
So my brother has a garden, and a garden shed, there is a lock on the garden shed to keep people from stealing out of it. Today he had a disagreement with the leader about the code to the lock. The leader immediately got defensive the moment he was questioned, saying he had a picture of the code on his phone (while also repeatedly complaining that he could find it faster if he didn't have so many pictures on his phone, as if that were our fault, but that's another discussion.) He also kept getting more and more angry, yelling and shouting that he had to be right because he opened the lock with that code a week ago. So eventually, my brother just went and got the fucking lock off the door and brought it inside to show him that he was wrong. He got even more mad and just continued to insist that he would find the picture and that he, and only he, was right. So my brother starts messing around with the code and the lock, and the leader just keeps getting more angry, takes it out of my brother's hands, and keeps yelling while he starts fucking around with the lock and the code. In the end, they were both wrong, but my brother was more correct (He had technically the right code, because it did unlock the lock, but the lock was upside-down so the code was backwards or something. The leader had numbers in the one he said that weren't even in the code.) But the leader still insisted that he was somehow correct, because being wrong is a threat to him.
accidentally said "invasive thoughts" instead of "intrusive thoughts" today and actually I think I'm onto something. this thought does not belong here and it is harming the local ecosystem
