man i havent talked about this book since may
the lusting hours-- enjoyable. funny. im more in tune w the humor of the soft core genre. i loved the ending with the guy getting berated by a drag queen. will probably never watch again.
diary of a swinger-- for the rape kinksters. she gets either raped or assaulted the entire movie and it ends with a lesbian kiss. not my jam. also the version i watched was probably a vhs upload bc holy shit was it choppy.
shriek of the mutilated-- frustrating. theres multiple copies with different editing out there and no way to know which is which. i still dont know if ive seen relatively the complete movie and i hopped between like four different links. otherwise, yeah, terrible bad movie. kind of a gem tho. like, bring it out at a party when everyones drunk and no ones paying attention. worthy of a rewatch one day (once i forget about the multiple versions issue)
bacchanale-- also a gem, in its way. the porn scenes are really fucking boring. the rest is surreal and entertaining. i think this should be in the criterion closet. idk if ill watch it again. my adhd brain that needs dialogue or it falls asleep was struggling but it was a fun viewing regardless... ignoring the boring fucking.
the findlay-amero joined productions were darkly entertaining to differing levels depending on the amount of humor put in the script. i didnt get a lot of satisfaction from the macabre aspects overall, but the later films did get a good couple laughs out of me. at the end of the day they were made to be easy, silly, jerk off material that came ( :3c ) and went so they made the cash to make the next film. they accomplished that goal and im happy to have seen them 50 years later.
the amero bros productions were more light hearted and dripping with queer characters and comedy. i honestly feel kind of honored to get to see this snap shot of queer history. they focused on the heterosexuals for the main story line, but they never let us forget the queers of nyc. 'you arent the only sexuality and we wont let you forget it' kind of vibe. for that reason, as well as the already stated humor in the writing, i just prefer their works. if i went back to any films from ch 2, itd be one with one or both of the ameros in a leading production role.
sleazoid express very very briefly mentions that for a time the findlays, before their separation and divorce, went into horror. It discusses shriek of the mutilated and snuff. i think im going to go off chapter to dig more into this part of the filmography. shriek was terrible, fun, and terrible fun. im writing this before looking so lol if theres only these two films, my bad oopsie.
also! it really irks me how the authors talk about roberta findlay and her solo work. the misogyny. the way the authors go into the minute details of the plots with male creators, but robertas work gets written off as sloppy bullshit. what the fuck are you talking about? weve been discussing the merits of soft and hard core porn where one of the (inexplicable) murders is from poison sperm that the victim swallows during a bj. all these deaths and torture and rape and assaults and attacks on women written out for us, but we just skip the only woman with true agencys work because she, what, is kind of a bitch? fuck you.
who cares if her works sucks? its fucking grindhouse. it all sucks on purpose. who fucking cares if she gets mad at people who put her on some kind of feminist auteur pedestal? frankly i think i would too.
yeah, i think im going way off chapter to desensitize my perverted mind with more schlock, pain, and rape to watch roberta findlays works with and without her ex husbands involvement. fuckers.
