Now listen, random tumblr user reading this. We are in great need of more fanfiction of this ship. I insist. Even with Izumi sensei trowing us random gifts on the canon, I feel like there are so many prompts and universes that havent been used yet.

So I decided to rewatch Immortality yesterday, and I have to say that the whole thing is even more over the top than I remembered. I realize I may upset some folks, but the entire plot strains crudulity on every level. In short, I don't believe any of it.

What it is, in actuality, is a two-pronged contrivance designed, by coincidence, to bring both Grissom and Catherine back to Vegas and to give both a personal stake in the bombings. Seriously, what are the odds Catherine's casino would be the site of a bombing and that the primary suspect would be Heather? Two birds with one bomb.

Surprisingly, the GSR stuff embedded in this thing actually, for the most part, works for me. I did not think it necessary to create a faux triangle to add melodrama; Grissom and Sara in the same room together trying to come to terms with their feelings is drama enough, especially after the show incomprehensibly decided to divorce them. While Heather, ironically, is the one person to whom both Gil and Sara declare their love for one another, ultimately, she is used mainly as a plot device. And it still pisses me off that they decided the way to make her a suspect was to kill her granddaughter.

And, yes, I know there were a lot of rewrites. I know originally Nick was supposed to be in the show (why Grissom was in San Diego?) before Eads said no. And I know Bruckheimer insisted Heather be included. So perhaps some of the choppiness can be attributed to that.

I suspect that were it not for the GSR stuff that I probably would not give it the time of day. As I said, for the most part, the scenes about them and their relationship seem to me to be mainly accurate and therefore compelling.
