âOh you know, same old same old. Resting, wandering. I donât do much. Greed does most of the stuff around here.â Sloth stated as he shrugged, decided to pull on his coat fully. He seemed to be mostly awake now. âYou look like youâve done something more than studying.â Suddenly Sloth popped a sly grin. âTell me Verit, have you been working out? you look like youâve grown.â
âGrown..?â Verit frowned slightly as she thought about his choice of wording. âI have been training to properly use a sword, when I am not focusing on my spells. It is a great work out, I suppose. Much more so than sitting around praying or reading.â Gods know, thatâs all the priests would ever allow...
âHow is Greed faring?â
Back Again
Verit gave a small, almost sad smile. If he had forgotten her, perhaps she had been away for far too long. She gave a polite nod, before looking up to the bell above his head. âI am Verit Mercier of Thorolund, my friend.â Still alive, still human, and relatively unscarred.
Slothâs eyes widened as the name rung many bells. âVerit?â he asked, as he started to descend the steps with a smile on his face. âOh wow, itâs been quite some time! What have you been up to?â he asked as he walked, still holding his coat over him like a blanket.
âI have been... studying.â She responded simply with a smile. âThere is, after all, little else to do in Lordran. I am not even certain how long it has been since my arrival in Anor Londo.â Verit admitted with a small shrug, taking a relaxed stance. She seemed healthier than he might recall, once-pale skin now lightly tanned from the sun, and though she was still soft-spoken, it more out of habit than lack of confidence.
âAnd yourself? I am pleased to find a familiar face here, truth be told.â
It wasnât like she had been hiding, but Verit often got so wrapped up in her studies and training, she often failed to notice the passage of time. Besides, enough others had seen her around to relay to Jenessa that she was still alive and well and in Anor Londo. And it wasnât like her sister didnât know where she was to come visit. But, it had been a while.
So with a slight hum, the sorceress set off, seeking out her elder sister. As much as she disliked the Darkmoon barracks, it was necessary to go through them to locate Jenessa. Perhaps her own quarters would suffice? Or was she out on patrol? Verit gave the doors to her sisterâs room a quick, loud knock, waiting patiently. If she wasnât there, then there was a good chance theyâd cross paths with Verit wandering around Anor Londo. Perhaps one of the others had seen where she had gone..?Â
Should Jenessa open the door, sheâd likely catch Verit looking distant and thoughtful. Should Jenessa not respond, the sorceress would wander away, seeking her elsewhere.

Slothâs eyes widened a bit. ââŚyou seem familiar.â He yawned, scratching his head. She was a young woman, but she seemed to know him. âPerhaps you can give me a name? That might ring my bell.â He motioned up, indicating the church bell above and chuckled at his joke.
Verit gave a small, almost sad smile. If he had forgotten her, perhaps she had been away for far too long. She gave a polite nod, before looking up to the bell above his head. âI am Verit Mercier of Thorolund, my friend.â Still alive, still human, and relatively unscarred.

Back Again
It hadnât taken Verit long to leave Anor Londo, and while she had other destinations in mind, there was a strong desire to stop at the church. Perhaps purely for nostalgic reasons, as the local area had been her sanctuary and home during the first⌠year? Year or so of her stay in Lordran.
Across the bridge from Senâs Fortress and up the steps, and there she was. It felt strange, Verit mused. There was no desire to pray, no compulsion to give thanks to the gods any longer. So the sorceress stared for a moment at the altar that she had often knelt before, reminiscing about everything that had happened.Â
Only then did Verit recall that, once upon a time, others called the church home. A small smile tugged on her lips as she turned to the stairs, making her way upwards. Hopefully they wouldnât mind the visit.Â
âHello? Is there anyone home?â

Sloth arose from his bed with a yawn, glancing around. Did he hear something? He got out if his bed and tugged his coat over shoulders like a blanket, stepping out and searching for the source of the voice and stopping at the top of the stairs. âHello?â He yawned, rubbing one of his eyes.
Ah, she recalled that voice. Verit couldn't help but smile, stopping halfway up the stairs, just in case he was too asleep to recognize she wasn't a hostile intruder. It seemed he had just rolled out of bed.
"It has been a long time, Cecil. I apologize if I woke you?"

Anor Londo had grown boring, the eerie silence of the city often threatening to drive her mad. The sorceress had few friends to visit, and she was certain that had she been undead, she would have gone hollow by now. There were only so many times she could read the same books, after all, but she didnât dare go to the library for fear of the channelers catching sight of her. No, that was a fight she wasnât certain she could win. Or could she..?
She had been hiding herself away for far too long, Verit decided. Her training was going well, and she felt healthier - and stronger - than she had in a long while. With a weapon on her hip, and a catalyst in hand, the young woman slipped out of Anor Londo, going to explore the once-familiar areas of Lordran. Carefully, of course. It wouldnât do to end up dead.
