on the lighter side of things:

commander zavala, the titan vanguard, is retiring. ikora will be taking up the mantle of vanguard. here, crow and ikora discuss replacements for zavala, with crow mentioning the hunters still largely do not trust him.

(so crow is even more entrenched in paperwork and things are still kind of weird with him being the new hunter vanguard, even after a couple years now)

now, mara and petra have… a lot of things happening.

there is this lore page, in which mara receives an offer from VI.

mara and some of the young techeuns we have seen previously (austyn, sjari, and ylaia) are sent a message in their dreams. they go to eleusinia, mara’s corrupted throne world, and sit by the statue of sjur to spend days in some sort of ritual. xûr of the nine brings a message and an offer from VI (six): sjur eido is alive, “lost in time”, with some weird statements about how it is she “died”.

the offer from VI of IX is: if mara sov ceases to help her allies on earth, sjur will be found. if she continues to help, mara will not find her. mara rejects this offer; the knowledge that sjur is alive is enough for her to plan to find her, without the help of the nine.

which then brings us to a couple points:

— this lore page, in which crow and mara have a discussion. i think it’s clear she’s told him about the offer she rejected, and she is conflicted on how to do this. mara wants to find sjur, but cannot abandon her people. it’s an interesting conversation with some nice little character bits between them. they’re so normal.

— this bit of in-game dialogue i posted recently. mara talks in circles, sounding very distressed and uncertain, stating there is something she wants… but she would have to leave to even attempt to find it, with no guarantee. she could ask the guardians, she knows they could accomplish this goal, but she feels it should be her. she implies she may in fact just leave on this quest.

which finally brings us to a real fun and interesting point: one of the ahamkara eggs has hatched. just one, for now, but even ONE is a huge deal.

i also want to talk about some interesting points of this lore which is… mara and petra discussing the curse on the dreaming city, and pulling their people out of it, is what prompts the ahamkara to hatch. but the really fun little tidbit, i think, is this to me absolutely reads as mara being VERY intentional about this. she brings petra to this room and insists on having the conversation there, in front of the eggs, which petra questions and mara is firm on. i feel like that is ABSOLUTELY mara doing this on purpose. and considering her current plight in regards to sjur and having to potentially leave her people for her big gay quest, i feel like… that’s gotta be why. like that’s it. mara needs her people to be safe, and this is how she can do that.
