(Pokémon Black version) "To all appearances flightless, it was able to glide down from tall treetops to snag its prey." (Pokémon Moon) Archeops:"They are intelligent and will cooperate to catch prey. From the ground, they use a running start to take flight." (Pokémon Black version)

These Pokedex entries propose two different ways of taking off for this line: by leaping from tree branches in Archen, and by running and jumping in Archeops And this duality is no coincidence, it actually reflects a long debate in paleontology about the evolution of flight. One side, the "arborealists", posited that birds evolved from arboreal gliding species and developed powerful wings to stur while airborne and remain stable when gliding down: the "tree down" hypothesis. The other, the "cursorialists", argued that they instead evolved from terrestrial running ancestors thay used the thrust of the wings while running at high speed to make quick turns and jump higher: the "ground up" hypothesis".

And which side is correct? Kind of neither, because it seems more and more likely that instead the ancestors of modern birds and other cloesly related dinosaurs (Dromaeosaurids, Troodontids, Oviraptorosaurs and others) were versatile animals with many features that would be accentuated in different lineages. Oh also Archeops living in packs and running uber fast is of course a reference to mainstream depictions of large dromaeosaurids like Deinonychus (Velociraptor as it is often mistakenly called)
