arcana will be officially opening this saturday! 

the foundation for familiar rights group has existed in arcana for the last fifty years, and is seen as either a pest or guardian angel depending on where your opinion of arcana’s shape-shifters lies. in the beginning of their operation, the group existed as a way to help the rest of the city understand the species better in an effort to cut down harmful behaviors that kept familiars low on the social hierarchy. posters and pamphlets with handy guides on how to tell a house cat apart from a feline familiar going through their day, on why you should always ask before petting, and even built up founds from donations to help familiars of the city with medical bills and day-to-day expenses. the foundation’s motives and role in the city was innocent - and even if some of their views could seem a little bizarre - they were helping, not hurting, and the rest of the city left them in peace.

ten years ago, however, the passing of the foundation’s director led to a change in leadership, and the beginning of the legendary beasts program. while the foundation had always taken a gentle approach to the unfair treatment familiars could receive, the new leadership was angry, seeking vengeance and wanting to rock the boat as much as possible. tired of familiars being seen as vermin of the city, the legendary beasts was an answer to the question of familiar’s usefulness - if they wouldn’t respect someone who turned into your average mutt or alley cat, perhaps arcana’s population would respect ancient monsters instead.

the plan was ambitious: taking a small group of young children and teens and creating a better, brighter version of familiars. ones that couldn’t be ignored or rejected, but rather praised and feared - the foundation sought to turn young familiar’s animal forms into that of mythic beasts, ones found not even in arcana, but only on the pages of storybooks and whisperings of species lost to the humans.

through the combination of science and magic, the test subjects would become the future of the species - if they could survive the grueling medical tests, that is. reports on the conditions for the subjects varies, with some claiming the board of directors loved and took care of them, while others lament on abuse of all scales. no matter what the truth may be, arcana’s law enforcement shut the project and foundation down just a few short months ago, with public debate on what should become of the subjects - some believe they should be destroyed, while others opt for them to fade into normalcy and live life as a regular citizen. the subjects themselves have scattered - some of them ran for freedom the second the foundation was shut down, some chose to stay with their ‘creators’ for lack of a better idea, and others have seemed to simply disappear, keeping their presence hidden for their own safety.

the foundation won’t be stopped that easily, however, and with the directors still free, they want nothing more than to round their legendary beasts up and finish the job.
