your art has spiked my interest haha what’s tower of hanoi and how/where do i play it?
OKAY.
TOWER OF HANOI IS THE BEST GAME YOU ABSOLUTELY, 110% GUARANTEE NO REFUNDS, HAVE NEVER HEARD OF.
LET ME EXPLAIN.
(also known as: i win at all times ever and im glad my tawahano propaganda pays off, HAH!)
----------
Have you ever heard of... END ROLL? Walking On A Star Unknown? Farethere City? These are all relatively niche RPGMaker 2000 games made by a Japanese game creator known as Segawa (せがわ), with END ROLL being the most popular among Western Fans (you might see the main character, Russell, in some fanart with OMORI or Yume Nikki characters for example)!
In fact, for followers of mine who are In Stars and Time fans, END ROLL was credited as one of the inspirations for that game!
TOWER of HANOI is another game made by Segawa, one released in November of 2020, and one of the final games they've made in RPG2K (so they've got an absolute mastery of the engine).
I'll be in part directing this post towards ISAT fans since that makes up the majority of my followerbase on Tumblr, so there may be ISAT spoilers (including Two Hats/Act 6 Secret spoilers) up ahead! There will also be mild TOWER of HANOI spoilers required to explain the game's premise. Proceed at your own risk.
Writing Sibling Relationships
A sibling relationship is perhaps one of the most complicated things to realistically write about. Your character dynamics and personalities will help determine their relationships but here are some things to consider:
Building their past:
Think about how they were raised. Upbringing plays a large role in impacting a person’s character, and it also helps shape relationships with siblings.
Consider their favourite memories. Good memories are important to a person, and people often seek to create new memories similar to the old good ones. On the other side, also think about their worst memories.
Who was the oldest? Who was the baby? Birth order does have some impact on personality. It also is especially important for the earliest memories.
Think about the roles that they ended up in. Siblings do, to some extent, define themselves by how they are different from each other. They pursue different interests, take on different roles, and explore different identities. These roles can be a source of self-realisation and sometimes frustration.
Giving siblings personalities:
Choose personality traits for each sibling. Even if the sibling is only a minor character, it’s important to know their basic personality.
Think about each character’s dreams, hopes, and struggles. What do they want in life? What are their goals? Every character needs something to strive for.
Figure out their insecurities. Everyone feels insecure about different things: skills, personality traits, perceived physical flaws etc.
The siblings in your story might have similar looks, qualities and characteristics. However it’s important to make them their own person too.
Keep in mind that siblings might have the same habits, sometimes without even realising it. (Personal example- My eldest brother and I do not look the same. He has green eyes, mine are brown. I have dark hair, he’s blonde. Our faces are shaped different. He takes after our mum, I take after our dad. However, we have a lot of the same habits and mannerisms. We both carry ourselves in the same way, we both quirk our eyebrows in the same manner when confused. Little things like that, that when growing up I’ve picked up from him and vice versa.)
Things siblings do: (This is a generalisation)
Siblings know how to push each others buttons.
Usually they spend so much time with each other, they know exactly how to annoy their sibling and the best way to do it.
Whatever annoys your character, his (or her) siblings already know about it. If your character’s siblings decide to get on his nerves, it shouldn’t take them very long.
Most (if not all) siblings make fun of each other to some degree. Usually they are just messing with each other. Depending on the circumstances, the insult may be forgotten almost immediately.
But it’s important to consider how siblings react when someone else is picking on their brother or sister. A lot of siblings will get defensive in this situation. Unless you have set up a reason otherwise, make sure your siblings know how to tease each other but also how to protect each other.
They rarely call each other “sis” or “bro” unless they’re trying to be annoying. This is seen a lot in films and TV but it’s not common. The occasional greeting like that is fine, but overusing it just sounds strange and unnatural.
Sibling conflict:
Siblings will argue other pretty much anything. Most of the time it’s just to get a reaction. Sometimes one will start an argument just because they’re bored.
The silent treatment! A lot of siblings, particularly children teenagers and young adults will give each other the silent treatment over the pettiest things. But it’s incredibly hard to ignore someone living in the same house as you for a long period of time.
The sibling on the receiving end of the silent treatment will usually do absurd and annoying things to get their brother or sister to speak.
Common things siblings argue about:
The tv remote
Who is going to use the bathroom first
Someone is taking too long in the bathroom
Who gets to sit in the front seat of the car
Who the favourite is
Estranged siblings:
“Sibling relationships are our longest, but it’s also an accident by birth. There are no guarantees that the siblings will grow up with similar personalities, interests or like each other,”
You should be able to find plenty of conflict amongst brothers and sisters. But most of the time there is a resolution.
If you were to fall out with a friend, you can unfriend them, you can’t un-sister a sister, whether you like it or not you’re stuck with that person in some sense.
However, some siblings do fall out and never speak to each other again. It happens, but if this happens in your story there are a few things to consider:
When asked about their family will your character acknowledge that they have siblings? Or will they claim to be an only child?
Why did they stop speaking?
Would they reconcile in times of crisis? For example, if a family member died would the siblings put aside their differences to deal with the situation?
Do they tell stories about their childhood that include the sibling?
It’s important to remember that if someone has a sibling, a lot of their childhood memories and stories from growing up will have some reference or include that sibling. It’s hard to complete cut them out, they will be mentioned at some point.
Given the entangled, long-lasting bond, what’s the price paid for suspending or ending it?
Does the sibling have other brothers or sisters whose relationships are satisfying? “
“If they have no contact with a sibling, it’s losing a shared history and there can be a sense of guilt,”
Or are your character’s relieved? Do they express a sense of relief.
“Like the end of a marriage, sibling estrangement is always sad, even when it brings relief. It’s not what anyone hoped for, but sometimes it’s the wise and necessary choice.”
Ways of bringing together estranged siblings:
Write compassion between your characters. Show them trying to see things from the sibling’s viewpoint alongside their own.
Have them say what they want from their sibling moving forward. Don’t just have your characters vent all the time. Your reader might grow tired of that.
Confirmation of love and affection:
Are the siblings in your story the type to talk about feelings? Maybe they don’t talk about it but the feeling is still there. Consider showing the depth of their relationship through actions.
(Personal example - When I was born my brothers were 4 and 6 years older than me. From what my mum has said they were both excited to have another sibling and would fight about who got to hold me first. When we were younger we used to cuddle on the sofa and play together, and frequently said I love you etc, however as we got older that stopped. I can’t remember the last time I said I love you to either of them, which sounds terrible. But it doesn’t change the fact that I know they love me and that they know I love them, we just show it and say it in different ways.)
Relationships with parents:
How did parents or caregivers react to fights between siblings?
Was there parental favouritism, real or perceived? How did the non-favourite sibling(s) react?
Do your siblings stick together when arguing with their parents?
Would your characters lie in order to prevent their brother or sister being told off by their parents?
Some siblings will join forces to tease their parents.
What if the siblings don’t have a good relationship with their parents:
If this is the case in your story, research it, google is your friend.
Try and read up on real life experiences.
Consider how the siblings view their parents. Do they stand together with the same opinion or do they have conflicting recollection of events?
Do the parents have a healthy relationship with each other? How has this impacted their children?
Writing siblings who have abusive parents:
If the siblings come from an abusive home, how has this affect their behaviour?
Do the siblings ever talk about what happened?
Do they have the share the same experience? Do they ever argue about the situation?
Are they over protective?
Has their own relationship become strained? Have they drifted apart?
Do the siblings ever acknowledge the past? If not, does this cause friction?
Common assumptions about sibling age order:
Oldest child: people pleasing, bossy, organised, punctual, natural leader, controlling, ambitious, expected to uphold family values, caretakers, financially intelligent, responsible
Middle child: flexible, easy going, independent, sometimes feels like life is unfair, sometimes will engage in attention-seeking behaviour, competitive.
Youngest child: silly or funny, risk-taking, creative, sometimes feels inferior, easily bores, friendly, outgoing, idealistic, the baby of the family.
Only child: close to parents, demanding, leaders, spoiled, self-absorbed, private in nature, may relate better to adults to kids their own age, independent, responsible
While these are common assumptions, they are not strictly true and it’s important to consider your characters personality before you apply any of these stereotypes because it may clash with how your character truly is.
Half siblings:
Half-siblings can run along several lines:
They might act like full siblings, depending on how long they’ve known each other.
They may view each other as space takers.
Your characters may feel “eh” about their half- sibling, they could just be someone who is there but they don’t have a relationship with. The half-sibling may even be a complete stranger.
Consider that they might be rivals. Are they friendly rivals or bitter rivals?
Don’t get caught up in trying to build their relationship based on what “should be” in accordance with society. As you establish these characters, let your own imagination lead you to what their relationship is. But remember that their relationship will be impacted on how the parents treat them too.
(@its-the-tear-in-my-heart thanks for asking about sibling relationships. This post is more generalised than your question but I hope it helped in some way.)
Hello Kirby fandom! I have some information to hopefully help clear up confusion about the recent news that we are getting an official English localization of “”””the””” Kirby Manga, and “”””the”””” Kirby Manga in general. Sorry about 2011 tumblr format lol
Disclaimer about Hikawa’s DedePupu and his curses: We don’t have a whole lot of info on which chapters are getting localized yet, but it’s likely going to be out of the four “Best Works” collections? Which hopefully don’t have the worst of Hikawa Crimes in them. We’ll see
A taste of Hikawa’s Crimes under the readmore, with a few images. Don’t click if you dont want the curse although I tried to keep it to the tame ones because I have standards for this blog

Making a Murder: A Writer's Guide Special
Writers are found of murder, perhaps just as much as serial killers. Or maybe we are serial killers. Who knows. Murder can be one of the most familiar tools for a writer but in truth how much do we know about writing a murder? How many details can we get wrong without even knowing?
Getting into the head of the Murderer
When characters kill, it often helps to delve into the kind of mindset they have. As writers we strive for as much accuracy as possible. We could give Character A a gun and have them kill Character B, yes but is it accurate? Is Character B the kind of person Character A is motivated to kill? Is the weapon right? Is the situation wrong? We start by getting into the head of our killers.
To kill or not to kill
We begin as characters do. With the choice to kill or not to. When you watch police dramas or Netflix documentaries, you will hear the terms of "premeditated murder" or "crime of passion". These two categories are usually dictated by the character of the person committing it or the situation.
Premeditation means that the murder was planned. It can be boiled down to thinking about killing somebody to writing detailed plans with colours coded sticky-notes. You will find characters who are of a colder disposition landing in this category or perhaps someone seeking revenge. The killer often uses a pre-chosen weapon. Characters who pre-plan murders will likely lack empathy with their victim or have guilt about the crime. Example: The murder of Dumbledore.
Crime of passion is what it says on the tin. These murders happen within a split second when characters act out in a moment of emotional strain. Any character can act out and kill (by accident or intentionally) somebody. The killer will often use weapons of opportunity. These kinds of murders can lead to guilt in the perpetrator after the fact, letting the characters show empathy. Example: The death of Shae at the hands of Tryion Lannister.
Reasons To Kill
Motive is one of the most pressing subjects to touch on when one us profiling a killer in a novel. Motive fits the character and drives the actions. Financial gain, lust, defense and power are the top motives of the two sexes. But there are differences in the kind of killer a character is based on their gender. Women are most likely to fall into the motive categories of; Love, revenge, jealousy, financial gain, and concealment of a secret. Men fall into the categories of; revenge, financial gain, thrill of it, jealously.
Denoting Details
Details are no more important in this narrative than after the murder has taken place. Here we can glimpse into the psyche of the character and their true feelings for the victim. Here are some details:
A killer who mutilates a victim has little respect for the person and if the mutilation occurs in a private area, it can denote a sexual undertone.
A killer who covers a body is one who shows remorse or guilt or had respect for their victim's dignity.
A killer who chooses to place the body of their victim in a place of safety or importance is one that respects or cares for the victim and wants them to he found and cared for.
Methods & Character
Method can be linked with the kind of person the character is. Crimes that occur using projectile weapons such as guns are seen to be more impersonal as the killer can be a distance away from the victim. It can show a detachment from the victim, usually a premeditated crime.
Murders caused by stabbing, beating or strangling often are used in crimes of passion because of the closeness between victim and murderer.
Battle of the Sexes
Studies find that men are more likely to kill using blunt objects, guns or their hands to murder. Women on the other hand rarely commit murder by using their hands, preferring weapons like knives, blunt objects and poison. Women tend to be reactive when murdering, often killing someone who had harmed them in some way and are less likely to kill strangers.
The Meticulous Details
The tiniest detail can lift a simple case of murder to one snacking of reality. By adding details to the narrative, you can ensure that you chose the right person/method.
Most killers who kill by stabbing, cut themselves in the process usually along the palms.
It takes 2-3 minutes for somebody to strangle the life from somebody.
No matter how careful your killer is, they will leave some kind of trace at the scene of the crime.
When firing a gun at close range, the killer will be splattered with blood. Every gun wielder will have trace of GSR (Gun shot residue) on their close or skin though it can be removed by soap and water.
Stranglings are intimate crimes.
A character who attacks their victim from behind is one who hasn't the stomach or the bravery to to face their victim.
Likewise a character who faces their victim is one that either knows their victim or has no qualms about doing what they are doing.
A killer who over-kills a victim, let's say stabs a victim over a hundred times when all it would take is one or two. It reveals that a character acted out of rage or perhaps fear, and that the victim was close to their killer.
It will take at least (approximately) 5 mins for somebody to bleed out.
A dead body begins a cycle of rigor mortis (muscles stiffening) 4-6 hours after death. Lividity (settling of the blood within the body) and decomposition where the fatty tissue of the body breaks down (this stages occurs 48-60 hours after death).
Certain drugs can effect the cycle of decomposition. Cocaine hastens rigor mortis while carbon monoxide can slow it down (as well as turn a body pink).
(looks around nervously) (speaking into an unplugged mic) one toby fox "quote" that has helped me a lot as an artist/creator is this one:
(from the FAQ page for deltarune.)
i know i havent made anything particularly groundbreaking or amazing in my life so far, i still have a long long ways to go, but id just be acting stupid if i said there was nobody that liked my stuff... going anti-humble mode for a second here. There are goomyloid fans out there in the world....
but whenever i do make something i pour a lot of energy and heart into (mainly comics and videos) i sometimes get worried that This Is My Peak, i don't know if i can make anything better than this (at least as i am now)
but when i think of the (paraphrased) words "i don't think i can make something that made you feel 'that way' again, but maybe I can make something else." it reminds me of just how many different things i can create, and how many different things i WANT to create. this 'something else' could feel like less to some people, but it could also feel like so, so so much more for others.
(i think that's kind of how i feel about deltarune in general actually. of course undertale was great, but even with two chapters right now, i can tell deltarune is going to be something really special. truly, it is Something Else)
erm my TLDR here is that uhh Keep drawing and making forever. dont berate yourself for being unable to re-achieve something you've already done, and let yourself do Something Else. goodbye (i leave out your front door)
i think this line got removed due to the new updated info, so im glad i screencapped it before it disappeared and everyone would think i'm crazy for remembering it
it's weirdly important to me (if this post wasnt enough to tell you that)
actually, you know what
this new excerpt really resonates with me too.
... I sat here for a while trying to think of some way to explain how i felt but i dont really have good way to put it.
i guess, maybe just what i want to say is, deltarune is very important to me. i'm no theorizer and i cant make games or music or anything like that but maybe i can convey how i feel through art and writing
even if that art takes the form of me drawing the same two characters over and over lmao. but even with two chapters i can tell it will be something that's with me forever. (i actually think this will be the greatest game ever but i must remember that everyone has different tastes and brains)
and i guess to tie back to the original purpose of this post, i hope the things i make can resonate deeply with even just one person, somehow, in some way
apologies for reblogging myself yet again, i just hope there are others that were touched by these words like i was. I didn't want them to go unnoticed
