Your beautiful face, the way your eyes light up when you smile at him, the little crease between your brows when youâre concentrating, the way your lips part when you moan his name. Your lovely personality that somehow balances his perfectly. Your voice, especially when you laugh, when you tease him, when you whisper âI love youâ against his skin in the middle of the night.
And your body.
Heâs obsessed.
Ask him âass or titsâ and the man will genuinely start tearing up because how could you make him choose?
Your tits are perfect, so soft and warm in his big hands, so responsive when he squeezes them, when he leans down to suck marks into the soft flesh, when he slides his cock between them and fucks them eager and messy while you look up at him with those pretty eyes.
But your ass⌠fuck.
The way it jiggles when he has you bent over, hips snapping against you hard enough that the sound echoes. The way it recoils so beautifully when he slaps it, leaving his handprint glowing on your skin. He loves gripping it while he fucks you from behind, spreading you open so he can watch himself disappear inside you.
And donât even get him started on your thighs.
He could live between them.
He loves biting them, leaving little marks that only he gets to see. Loves when you wrap them around his head while heâs eating you out, tongue buried deep as you squeeze and shake around him. Loves when theyâre wrapped around his waist as he fucks into you, or when he props your legs up and slides his thick cock between them, groaning at how soft and warm they feel.
No matter what position youâre in, his hands are on you; grabbing, groping, squeezing, squishing. He canât help it. Heâs addicted.
One night he had you on your back, legs over his shoulders as he thrust into you. His hands were everywhere, kneading your tits, sliding down to grip your ass, then gripping your thighs so tight you knew youâd have bruises tomorrow.
âFuck⌠I love every part of you,â he groaned, voice wrecked as he leaned down to bite the soft flesh of your thigh. âall mine.â
You were barely coherent, lost in how good he felt, how full he made you. âValko- please-â
He growled softly, hips snapping harder as he buried his face in your neck, breathing you in.
âMy beautiful mate,â he whispered, hands still roaming like he couldnât get enough. âEvery single inch of you⌠I love it all.â

..... and i know valko's favorite place to be is laying on your tummy. when you're in bed either on the verge of sleep or scrolling away on your phone, he will literally slot himself between your legs. you could be wearing a blanket or cuddling the little wolf plushie he won you-- it's gone in an instant. he'll wrap his humongous arms around your waist caging you in before he goes in to nuzzle your tummy for like 5 minutes straight. rubbing his cheeks, his nose, his hair, peppering kisses all over-- the first couple of seconds are spent trying to move your shirt out of the way while the other 4 minutes and 50 seconds are skin to skin contact.
he loves the way you yelp in surprise every single time (even though you know it's coming whenever he see's you like this). the fit of giggles that fall from your lips and the way you try to push his head away even though you love it so much. when he's ready to settle, he'll give you a sequence of three kisses all above your belly button to say "i. love. you." before his cheek takes permanent residence. your fingers always give his ears a little tug for messing with you before you find yourself rubbing them between your fingers.
you try and keep from giggling as you hear him snoring away without a care in the world. a few times you've even found him drooling onto your shirt. but you take it all because there's no place you'd rather be than in your little wolfie's arms.
mmm... thinking about waking up with valko particularly in the fall or winter time when the tip of his nose gets a little cold from the crisp air hanging about in your shared room. how you feel the warmth of him on your back as he has his arms wrapped around you and his legs tangled between your own. thank god it's a saturday and you have nothing planned so you're able to take all the time in the world. it's just about dawn, when the darkness of the night turns into the blue hues of the morning. valko has always been an early riser, always going out for a jog or doing some light work before crawling back into bed just in time for you to wake up.
but today was different. he didn't want to leave the coziness of your shared bed or wake you from your slumber as you so conveniently were cuddling his forearm like a plushie. his large hand cradled your head with your cheek nuzzled right into the palm. he slowly raised himself up onto his elbow not to disturb you to get a clearer view of your sleeping face. he mapped out every curve and counted every little eyelash you had like his life deepened on it. he could only chuckle knowing that if you caught him staring that you would try and hide away, but he loved seeing you like this. no makeup, no walls, no shying away.. just raw unfiltered you.
he gently caressed your arm, rubbing his thumb up and down, reveling in the way your skin felt against his. valko couldn't help but feel enamored by you, your beauty, your grace.. by it all. he leaned down to press a chaste kiss on your shoulder. he closed his eyes as he took a deep breath. your scent filled his scenes, it was a mix of your lotion, the laundry detergent, your shampoo, your sweat, your warmth, your being.. it was his home.
he further leaned down to give your cheek a kiss, the cold tip of his nose pressing into the skin. you couldn't help but smile feeling the little tingling sensation it gave you. he knew you loved when he kissed you with a cold nose-- something about the way his skin felt on yours always gave you butterflies in your stomach.
sensing your cognizance, he continued to lay small lazy pecks on your cheek. you stirred ever so slightly, nuzzling even deeper into his palm before reaching up and giving the scruff on the back of his neck a little scratch. he smiled into your cheek followed by a groan laced with slumber that sounded like music to your ears. you could barely form a sentence, your vocal chords not primed for speaking.
"..f..ve mints.." you only pulled him closer by his neck.
he happily obliged, snaking his hand under your shirt and around your waist, before pulling you back into him. he nuzzles his cheek against your head, placing more kisses along your temple.
"take all the time you need honey bunches, i'm all yours..."
when sylus has a long night, you know you'll have a long day.
when he returns from hours of annoyances, cleaning up and pulling on his black velvet robe, he doesnât slink into bed like usual, trying his best not to disturb you despite the thrill he gets when youâre cranky. instead, he wakes you without remorse, gathers your weakly protesting form in his arms, and carries you to his favorite armchairâthe one that overlooks the bustling nightscape from the balcony.
and once he sinks into the seat, sylus holds you captive.Â
his kisses linger all over. they torture you with long, wet, scandalous sounds, amplified when he sometimes drags his hot, rough tongue against your softer skin.
through it all, heâs grunting his pleasure, huffing your scent the way he longed to earlier. heâs anchoring you to his lap, holding you over his bulge, suppressing your squirms in every direction. his skin is so warmâtoo warmâand your body quickly follows suit.Â
âcan i move, sylus?â you whine into his ear.
he ignores you, much too entranced with your body.Â
âsylus.â
a soft growl leaves him as he comes up for airânow is not the time for talking.
âwhy,â he whispers, pressing a slow kiss to your temple, âwould you want to do that? are you not enjoying the sunrise as much as i am?âÂ
âit hurts.â you gesture shyly between your legs, ghosting over your tingling clit. âand youâre not doing anything to make it betterâjust making it worse,â you slur, still disoriented from ruined sleep. âitâs uncomfy.âÂ
you feel his chuckle more than hear itâhot, heavy pants setting your nerves aflame. âuncomfy, hm?â
âyes. itâs too much.â to prove your point, you try to wriggle away. arms lock around your waist like iron.Â
âask me nicely.â
âplease. iâll stay here. just wanna get comfy.â
he tilts your head up to kiss you deeply, his broad, built chest heaving against yours. âgo ahead, sweetie. get as comfy as you want. but while you do, know that iâm not letting you go anytime soon.â

You know what would make a cute fic is when they all sit together and sylus asks what's mamas name and they say mama and the mom asks what's sylus name and they go SYLUS!!!!
hehehe this reminds me of a drabble by @cosmoszyn fr a few months back. i remember it so clearly and still makes me laugh to this day HEHEHE check this out too!
i think the twins would also be more accustomed to Papa Sylus The Great Ragebaiter Qin's name, too, with all of mama's heartfelt scolding.
sylus & his family | sylus x reader
this week's homework for day-care is to show the class a drawing of their family and talk about what they love about each member.Â
the twins were allowed to share a drawing and take turns presenting.
so they take the sheet of paper home, already filled with scribbles and doodles of their house and of blobs that were supposed to represent each family member.Â
you spend the whole evening trying to get them to remember their short script: papa's name, the biggies' names pronounced correctly, mephisto's origins and cool facts... but one thing they can't seem to remember is your name.Â
"papa's name is...?" you prompt.Â
"sy-woos!" both your boys say in cheerful unison.Â
"great!" you clap for them. "and mama's name is...?"Â
"ma bub." kyros claps for his answer.Â
while lucian shakes his head and corrects him. "no! it wheetie!"
sylus snorts from his spot on the couch, overlooking all of you on the carpeted floor.Â
"what?" you say in playful disbelief. "you still don't remember?"Â
"noâ i sorry, mama! i sorry!" kyros says, distress-hopping towards you to give you a hug. you laugh at him and nuzzle his nose. "i try again!"
"it's okay, angel, relax." he pouts at your reassurance and hides his face in your chest. his frustration palpable, this is the sixth time you've gone through the script in the past fifteen minutes.Â
"mama, isâ is kitty?"Â
"no, lucian."Â
"aww." he harrumphs and climbs sylus's lap. "papa, hepp."Â
"come on, angel, you know this." sylus props him up on his chest and mouths out your name. lucian squints at his lips and makes popping sounds like a beached fish.Â
"aha!" kyros says again, emerging from his sulking position. "dah-ling!"Â
you giggle and pepper him with kisses. "not quite, angel."
"angew?"Â
"nope."Â
"ahh!" he groans and flops hiself back on your chest. "don't know!"Â
"one more, look at papa's mouth." sylus supplies, moving his mouth in exaggerated motions, shapes wrapping around each silent syllable.
lucian squeals like he's gotten it. and like some cosmic link, so does kyros. together, they screamâ "BEEBOBEB!"Â
you fall back in laughter, stomach tearing at the seams as you grant them this win. "okay... we can take a break."Â
"yes!" sylus sighs, flopping back on the couch with lucian in his hold, causing the little one to giggle too. "this was successful."Â
"sylus." you warn, recognizing the peeping horns of his sarcasm.
and as if bass-boosted, your sons scold him too. "sy-woos!"
tagging @mazy-keen for the idea of the babies thinking mama's name is "beebobeb" from a previous comment ę(ËľË á ËËľ)
youâve forgotten what your thoughts sound like in the absence of your sweet silence.
âmake it stop!â you whine, falling into the arms of your clueless husband who smells of fresh smoke and steel.
sylus catches your shoulders in a solid embrace and kicks the large oak door closed. confusion knits his brows together before the amusement settles at the sound that reverberates through the halls.
carefully plucked strings of a classical guitar, leading up to a momentum that will soon welcome a melody. he doesnât yet know what the song is, but he always looks forward to original compositions from his sons.
âsweetie,â he kisses you forehead and cradles you close. âwhatâs the matter? luke sounds like heâs getting beââ
âYOU never take me to BANGâLADESH!â the paintings on the walls rattle at the sound, trembling just as you are at the incessant whining of lucas qinâ the muppet frog from onychinus with the karaoke microphone.
sylus clutches onto you, as if protecting you from an avalanche.
he feels something grip his leg and find kyros with his baby noise cancelling headphones on. wide-eyed and petrified at the threat in the living room.
âtoo loud?â sylus lifts him up and sandwiches him between the both of you. kyros doesnât answer, just shoves his face in the crook of his papaâs neck.
âtheyâve been singing this verse for hours.â you groan, fingers plugged into your ears as well.
the music halts. enough for you to take a breath and sylus to ask,âwhy didnât you tell them to stop?â
sylus flinches as the amp is adjusted and the strings start again.
âi canât do that, luke is getting better!â you protest. you recall the moment a few weeks ago when he announced to the family that he will be learning a new skillâ âiâve always wanted to learn it, and itâs really important to me. so iâd like your support.â he said.
and so support him, you shall.
sylus gapes at you. âyou want me to take the fall?â
âiâm being supportive!â
âand what if i want to be supportive too?â
âYOU never cook me sausage on an open flaaame.â
âsylus!â you exclaim, shoving him forward. kyros yelps and you apologize to him.
âplease, please, please.â you beg, peppering his jaw with speckled kisses. âpleaseâ i just walked by and told him to keep it up.â
he pinches the bridge of his nose. âsweetieâŚâ
âi know, i know.â youâre going to sob if you hear that riff one more time. âplease, for me! for your poor, darling boyâŚâ you caress kyrosâs back.
sylus squeezes his eyes shut as loud feedback pierces his ears, the microphone now amplifies lucianâs voice. âA, B, C, Dâ,â
âyeah, lucian!â cheer the big twins, as they sing along. âE, F, G! Hââ
âpapaâŚ!â kyros kicks his feet against sylusâs ribs in frustration.
âokay, okay,â he relents. he turns to you, âbut you take the next fall.â
âyes! yes,â you lean up on your tip toes to kiss his bottom lip. ânow go!â
he hands you kyros and walks into the fray with squared shoulders and a purposeful stride.
waiting with bated breaths, you and your son pray for his success as if it was a war heâd gone off to fight. holding out for hope that a flag may fly to proclaim your win.
âhey, bossâ HEY!â
thereâs a small commotion. the pop of a mic. the static of a speaker. and then, three voices complaining at the same time.
sylus walks out, dusting off his hands and calling behind him, âi have taken you to Bangladesh.â
and in another stern breath, âlucian, bedtime.â
âokey,â breathes the little one, trailing after his fathers legs and catching a finger to hold.
you catch up to them with a happy kyros in arms as you all ascend the stairs together.
you open your mouth to thank him, but heâs already shaking his head.
âkieran,â he says to you like itâs an assignment. âheâs been talking about getting a wolf-dog.â
âoh, yeah, i rememberââ
he stops just at the threshold of your childrenâs bedroom. when kyros and lucian waddle in, he tells you. âno.â
you pout, because heâs been so excitedly sending you listings of puppies online recently. âbutââ
âno,â he says, words final. a heavy sigh is enough to show you how stressed he actually is about it. âiâve had enough of dealing with dogs.â
you frown, heart aching at the thought of letting kieran down. âsyâŚâ
he kisses you quiet, pressing tenderly and sweetly like the treacherous snake he is. âthank you, sweetie.â
you dont get a chance to bite him before heâs walking into the bedroom to start reading a story.
while you stand in a silence that does not seem so sweet after all.
Another funny thing about the SMAUs: Mephisto the willing accomplice!! đđ
HEAOIJDOISW he's their telephone fr!! đđ
"pisto, what it say?" lucian would wonder, staring at a long message from papa's phone. letters and numbers evenly spaced and curated, but making no sense to the three year old.
mephisto flutters down from his perch and lands on the baby's head, ruffling hair and tickling ears as he beats his wings to a stop. his beak opens, and out comes his voiceâ mellow, slightly flat (sylus is working on that), but clearâ "Mission Report Seven-Three-Six. Correspondence: Crow Oh-Six..."
lucian frowns. "top. next."
"Text from: Ao. The aethercore parts areâ"
lucian yawns. "next."
"Text from: Beloved."
"ah, that's mama!"
"Lucian is not getting that snake."
lucian gasps. "no! what papa say?"
"Sent: You're no fun."
lucian nods as if he were part of the conversation. "a'mama say yes?"
mephisto shakes his head.
a new text pops up in the thread, and lucian's eyes light up. "pisto! read, read!"
"Text from: Beloved. Lucian, stop reading your father's messages."
"how you know!!" he screeches into the phone. glancing around in horror, trying to spot you creeping up on him from the corners of the room.
"Text from: Beloved. I'm your mother. I know everything."
lucian gapes at his traitorous accomplice and shakes him off his head. "noo, pisto!!"
Mephisto squawks apologetically, nuzzles the boy's cheek in good nature and flies off. Just in time to herald sylus's entrance, who picks up both his phone and his squirming son in his arms to take him to meet your judgement.
ę¨ď¸ cw: angst with a happy ending, mutual pining, fwb, unbeta'd, unedited
you woke up to faint traces of sunlight creeping through the window.Â
beside you, valko shifted, the warmth of his chest pressing against your side as he pulled the blanket higher over his shoulders.
to the rest of the world, he was an imposing force, the brilliant young chairman of eoncore tech, but here, in the quiet of your room, he was justâŚ. valko.
you reached out, your fingers hovering just a few inches above his cheekbone, not daring to make contact, because touching him meant acknowledging how much this hurt.Â
friends with benefits.Â
it was such an easy label when you first agreed to it.
no strings or expectations.
except the strings had tangled themselves deeply around your heart.Â
and now, you were entirely and helplessly all in, but you had absolutely no idea where he stood.
the fear of the morning always hit you hardest at this hour.Â
you always dreaded the day that you would wake up to a cold empty space on his side of bed, that one day he would sneak out and never come back.
as though sensing you staring, valko stirred, his eyes fluttering open, and a lazy smile tugged at the corner of his lips.
"bug," he murmured, his voice rough from sleep. he reached out, his large hand gently cupping your hip, pulling you closer. "go back to sleep."
"valko," you whispered, your throat tight. you could not hold it back anymore. "if... if you ever decide this has run its course. if you wake up one day and realize you don't want this anymore..."
his thumb paused its movement against your hip, the remnants of sleepiness gone from his golden eyes.
"just don't sneak out," you whispered, closing your eyes because you could not bear to look at his face. you took a shaky breath, holding back the tears that threatened to fall. "don't just tiptoe out in the morning and leave me to figure it out on my own. if you don't feel it⌠if you're not where i am.... give me a warning. please anything but leaving me here, completely in love with you, by myself."
when he didnât respond, you braced yourself, waiting for his words of rejection, for him to finally reveal that you would never have a place in his heart the way he occupied yours.
but instead you felt his hand slide from your hip up to your cheek, willing you to open your eyes, his thumb brushing over your skin with a reverence that made your breath hitch.
he searched your face, seeing the raw truth in your eyes.
"youâre in love with me?" valko repeated quietly. you could hear the wonder in his voice, as though he couldn't believe what you had said, and then a bittersweet, self-deprecating smile touched his lips. "you think i am the one with one foot out the door?"
he leaned in, resting his forehead against yours, his grip tightening around you as if you might disappear if he let go.
"iâve been terrified of the morning sun every single time i'm here," he whispered against your skin, his heart hammering against your own. "i thought i was the only one losing my mind trying to play by the rules. i'm not tiptoeing anywhere, bug. i'm already completely stuck."
ę¨ď¸ an: thank you so much for 1,200 follows! đ
and i'm sorry again for the slow updates. i'm still not feeling great, the writer's block has been coming and going, and my heart is definitely not enjoying papergames' silent treatment. đĽ˛
sorry for rambling, but i highly recommend listening to the song first before reading and i can't think of a good nickname he'd give us, so i chose bug because... ya know, computer bugs𼲠ugh, i also kind of don't like how i wrote this. idk... writer's block sucks.
but i'm very, very grateful for all of you. hopefully my next fic will finally be an update to one of my current wips or series. love you guys!

you were never much of a PDA person, but sylus loves it. if he could have it his way, heâd be kissing and loving on you in public 24/7, while still being respectful of courseâarms around your waist, hand in his, or arm around your shoulders to pull you close and murmur sweet nothings into your hairline.
âwhatâs wrong, sweetie?â your husband asks, when you dodge his kiss with a sheepish smile, that teasing lilt ever present in his voice. âweâve been married for how long now? itâs okay if people know you like me.â
you ignore the warmth in your cheeks, the part of you thatâs still prone to his negging, before lacing your fingers between his as a consolation prize and scoffing, âwho says i like you?â
âyouâre the one wearing my ring, wife,â he raises your joined hands, placing a loud smooch onto the back of yours. âyou said yes to this.â
âthatâs because you literally got on your knees and begged me,â you fire back, trying your hand at ragebaiting him.
but sylus just laughs, red eyes just sparkling, before leaning in to whisper into your ear, âand iâd do it again.â
True to his word, the very next day, bright and early in the morning, you had an email from Simon. A very detailed email, with time and date, and a request to wear formal black tie dress but with comfortable shoes and an RSVP that had options yes, of course and please say yes you promised! You laughed to yourself and tapped on yes.
Later that day, Simon has called again to ask for your address so that a car could be sent to pick you up.
You didn't think much of the fact that why Valko wasn't speaking directly to you. You simply assumed that he was very busy and this was his way of keeping things streamlined. However, that wasn't the case. Valko was in shambles. He was nervous and embarrassed how he always ended up becoming a bumbling fool infront of you. He was communicating through Simon because that was he couldn't embarrass himself and have you running away from him.
By the time Saturday evening came, he was in an even worse condition. He had to change his shirt three times because he was sweating so much. His emotions were so all over the place that his ears and tails kept popping out and he's have to walk and distract himself to be calm again.
But despite all of that, Valko still told his chauffeur to take the night off. He wanted to drive you to the date and have you sit next to him in the passenger seat.
He had it all planned out. He was going to pick you up, surprise you with flowers, take you to dinner and hopefully when everything goes well, then if you still have the energy, a little private tour of the museum that has an exhibit on the Macedonian period.
Whilst he was a mess of panicked nerves, you were perfectly fine. Your biggest worry had only been if your dress would be appropriate enough or not. Everyone was very aware of how exceptionally rich Valko was. You only hoped that his idea of a dinner wouldn't be too extravagant and a blatant show of wealth.
Oh how wrong you were being proven.
First, he showed up in a sports car. The doors opened up instead of out and the engine was so fucking loud.
Then the restaurant had been fully booked out. There weren't even prices on the menu and he hadn't even let you figure it out. He'd just told the waiter to bring one of everything.
In Valko's head he was being such a good boy. He was providing. He was giving you everything before you even had to ask!
"Would madam like a glass of red?" A waiter asked and before you could even answer, Valko spoke for you.
"Bring the bottle please." He said with the widest smile.
Yes, yes. This is going so well! She has everything. Every appetizer, every entre! I can't wait to bring out every dessert too! I'm doing so good! He was so extremely proud of himself.
Meanwhile, you were having an awful time. He hadn't even asked if you wanted rosĂŠ or wine or champagne. Or maybe a can of coke!! Nope. Just ordered for you.
When time for dessert came, again, the waiter brought the menu but Valko very happily stated and we won't be needing those, and once again, ordered a piece of everything available.
You didn't want every single dessert. You wanted one cake slice with two spoons and shyly offering the other the last bite. You'd hoped for a nice soft dinner and getting to know eachother. Now, you wondering if you read all the signs wrong. The constant looking at you, the subtle way he'd asked if you were single. Maybe this really was just a formal dinner? There was no other agenda or intention?
The conversation itself hadn't been dull or boring and it wasn't that he wasn't letting you speak or asking questions. He was doing it all. But that was the problem. He was doing it all. As if it was rehearsed and done a thousand times over. Like this was just another Tuesday, like he'd done this so many times that he had a routine down to the T.
When everything was winding down, there was no bill asked for. Valko simply handed his black card to the waiter and paid double what was owed. You appreciated the gesture but there was still something so ostentatious about it all.
Back in the car, you were just about done with the night.
"If you're not tired- I've gotten the museum to open their exhibit for us to look at and-" He started but you just gave him a smile.
"Actually, I'd like to go home." You said softly.
"Oh- Yes. I can do that." He nodded. The silence in the car suddenly became extremely awkward. When he reached your apartment building, he turned to you. "Did you have a good time?"
Part of you wanted to smile and say yes, but the other half, the extremely disappointed half, didn't want to lie.
"I don't think you want my answer." You laughed softly.
Valko's heart dropped to his ass. Uh oh. "Was- Did I-" He swallowed. "Explain?" He demanded with worry.
"I just- Tonight wasn't what I expected?" You said slowly. "I'm sorry- I think I just read our interactions wrong." You offered.
"No- Please- I really wanted tonight to go well!" He said quickly. "What didn't you like? I'll fix it. I'll do better next time and-"
"Next time?" You asked.
"Well- I- Of course." He nodded earnestly. "I want to do this again. If- If you're up for it?"
"It's just-" You sighed a little. "I understand you're a very rich person but tonight felt like you were showing off. This car? The restaurant being empty? Not even letting me see the menu or the wine selection- Just ordering one of everything?"
"I thought you'd like that you didn't have to decide." He looked down. "I wanted to show that I can give you anything you'd like. That you don't have to think twice about anything if you're with me." He said it so honestly and sincerely that your bad mood started to almost evaporate. "Could- Could I get a do-over?"
"I just don't think we're on the same page." You tried to let him down gently.
"But I- I researched." He whispered, his eyes almost glistening. You were his mate and he'd fucked it all up in one night.
"Researched?" You raised a brow.
He nodded. "Articles and videos and whatnot. Everyone said women like a provider and luxury and to be treated like a princess."
You sighed. "Okay- Yes- Women- Myself inculded- We do like a man who provides, and luxury and to be treated like a princess but everyone has a different definition of what that looks like."
"What would your definition look like?" He asked with a pout.
"I mean- A provider for me wouldn't mean what tonight was. For me, it would mean that I mention I have a leaky tap and he fixes it. Princess treatment would mean going to the other side of the town for a type of pastry I like when I'm in a bad mood. Luxury would mean whatever makes life comfortable for me." You explained. "And tonight-"
"Tonight, I was just an asshole who threw money around and showed off." He realized finally.
Valko leaned back into the seat and slid down a little with hunched shoulders. "I didn't mean to come off like that. I swear." He looked at you, "If you could just give me one more chance- I promise I'll be more authentic. I'll even- I'll even bring my other car-"
You rolled your eyes playfully, "Oh? And downgrade from this Ferrari?"
"Oh come on-" He smiled, "This is a Lambourgini. I'll bring the Maserati. For a more casual vibe."
You laughed and he felt like he was on the right track again. You opened the door and Valko ran out to help you out of the car.
"Please? Just one?" He asked softly.
"I... Okay." You yielded. "It'll be a make or break."
"I promise, it'll be something you never forget." He smiled wide, "In a good way!" He added quickly.
You giggled a little and nodded. "Let's see-" You teased him.
Valko was about to ask if he could walk you up when someone yelled from the third floor's balcony.
"Hey!! You coming up, Pips or what?" Caleb yelled, then he whistled. "Nice car, man!"
Ugh. The roommate. His gaze narrowed but he still forced a polite smile and nodded a thank you. Inside, he hated him instantly.
even though mr. zayne is right in front of you, you can't stop thinking about your zayne.
âThe maids informed me that youâve been crying at night.â
You nearly drop the book in your hands, head snapping up to look at Zayne. The scratching of his fountain pen doesnât cease, and his face is kept carefully unaffected, as if heâs just asking what youâd like for supper. But even if heâs Mr. Zayne in this world, you know him better than you know yourself. Heâs hanging on to your every word.
A pang pierces your chest, adding on to the dread thatâs hung over you since you first realized that Zayne had no memories of Linkon. During the day, youâve been careful not to mention anything about the real world, too scared to ruin your chance to change the story and go back home. At night, youâre haunted by the ghost of your beloved. Your doctor never speaks in those dreams, but his cool touch lingers long after you awaken.Â
And just like that, the compartmentalization of the last few weeks has been cracked open on the floor of the study. âIâŚâ
You assumed that his silence this afternoon was diligent in nature; now you realize he was mustering the courage to voice his concern. When you donât respond, he continues, fiddling with the ink well. âIs something the matter?â
âNo, of course not,â you blurt out. Your cheeks burn with embarrassment when he immediately sets down his pen with a frown. âI mean itâs nothing, really.â
âFirst, you say that there is no issue, and then you say that the issue is immaterial. Which is it, I wonder.â You squirm under his gaze. The gears are already turning in his head, picking apart every interaction youâve had in an attempt to figure out whatâs wrong. Whatever you reveal, heâs ready to fix, exceptâ
âStop that,â you whisper, regretting it as soon as the words leave your mouth. A small, surprised sound escapes him. You force yourself to look up even though you know what youâll see: the subtle widening of his eyes, the softening of his brows, the guilt despite not having done anything wrong. Heâll overthink himself into oblivion if you donât set his mind at ease. âIâm sorry. Itâs not about you; you didnât do anything.â
He doesnât move an inch. âThenâŚ?â
Youâve never been able to lie to Zayneâthereâs no reason to think that you can get away with it now. A mumbled half-truth is what you settle on: âJust some nightmares.â
âI wonât insist if you donât wish to speak on them,â he says softly, âthough you may rely on me. You need only say the word.â
Itâs everything you want to hear, but heâs not truly offering to fill the hole in your heart that his Linkon self left behind. You forgot what it was like to just be his acquaintance. He doesnât smile freely with you or share his dayâhe was about to leave you in an estate too big for your thoughts before you pleaded to join him during his escapades.
âDreams are the subject of many schools of thought. There are those who think they reveal oneâs deepest desires or fears. Others believe that they can be prophetic in nature.â Listening to him is soothing and caustic all at once. Your eyes sting, and you wring your hands in your skirts as you will yourself not to cry. âBut no matter their purpose, they always end. The sun will rise on Morley Manor, and a pot of your favourite tea will be waiting on the breakfast table.â
But what about you? âWhat if I wanted more than that?â
The study lapses into silenceâno more than a few secondsâbut it stretches like a cavern between you. Was that too far?
âAre you not happy here?â
âThatâs not what I meant.â You shake your head, but your conviction falters near the end. His frown deepens. Even when heâs not trying, Zayne finds a way to get the truth out of you.
âMiss L/NâŚâ The hesitation in his voice is all you need to hear.
You canât get up fast enough, depositing the book back onto the shelf with more force than necessary. If you keep discussing this any further, you just might explode. Zayneâs chair screeches against the floorboards as he rises as well, bewildered at your sudden turn in mood. âIâm speaking nonsense. Ignore me.â
âIf there is something I can doââ
âNo.â Your response comes out sharper than you intended. He instantly freezes, halfway around the desk.
For a moment, you both just stand there, unmoving as you stare at each other. His expression wavers as he sees the tears gathering on your lash line, but he stays firmly rooted in place. You thinkâhopeâthat itâs just propriety keeping him away. Internally, youâre begging him to close the distance.
Instead, he bends at the waist in a respectful bow, the perfect result from countless years in grammar school, probably, and your stomach churns at the unfamiliarity of the sight. You fight the urge to grab his collar and pull him back upâto tell him to stop talking like that and go back to fretting over your health and caffeine intake. You just want your Zayne back.
But then he straightens and breaks the silence, sending you spiraling further and further and further becauseââI may no longer be your fiancĂŠ, but I will do all I can to ensure your comfort. I will always be here.â

the few private places on the base of the farspace fleet consist of only three areas: the bathrooms, the barracks, and caleb's office, none of which are ever truly private.
so when you kissed colonel caleb xia two weeks ago, you knew this was going to be a terrible mistake.
there was no way on this planet earth you two weren't getting caught sneaking away to fuck like rabbits. but at the end of the day, neither of you really cared. if it worked, it worked. nobody was suspicious. yet.
and even if they were, which you highly doubt, you still wouldn't care. not when you're sitting on your superior's lap, grinding against him like your life depended on it.
caleb's large hands squeeze your hips before snaking their way under the thin fabric of your scrubs. they're pink -- expressive in a world that brought back nothing but death and bad news. expressive just like you.
your skin is soft under his touch, just like he expected. caleb almost swears he's dreaming when you let him lift your shirt off, in which he throws it behind his back in a hasty manner. once gone, his lips fly to your neck in an instant.
"'leb," you pant, running your hands through his dark hair. "careful-- ah-- don't leave any marks."
he simply hums against your skin and sucks a hickey into it anyway, making heat flood in between your thighs.
"that's not my name, baby."
caleb soothes the mark with a teasing swipe of his tongue, admiring how quickly the spot becomes red. the sensation makes you whimper and squirm in his grasp, which makes his grip on your hips tighten. you know what he's referring to, and your cheeks flush with embarrassment. but you give in anyway.
"colonel--"
three devastating knocks at the door snap the both of you out of your sexual haze. caleb lets out a frustrated sigh as he glances at the door, reluctant to release you even as you're panicking to slip out of his arms.
"permission to enter, sir?" the gruff voice asks from outside, which the both of you recognize as liam, caleb's lieutenant and second-in-command. he purses his lips, knowing that ignoring him would be the wrong decision. finally, he lets you go.
"hold on, liam," he coughs, leaning back in his seat as he discreetly tries to adjust the tent in his pants. "give me a minute."
while he's distracting the lieutenant, you look at yourself on a small mirror propped up against the wall, noticing the hickey immediately. it's huge, and in a spot that can't easily be covered without makeup. bastard.
leaving you no other choice, you quickly pull your hair down from your messy bun, pulling the strands to rest over your shoulders before combing through them with your fingers to ensure you don't look like a wreck.
the second you turn back to look at caleb, he immediately notices the way your hair is now down. he suppresses a smirk but gives you a nod, signaling that it's okay for you to go now.
but you'd much rather dig a hole, crawl inside it, and die, right here in his office.
with a deep breath, you force yourself to reach for the door's handle, knowing you'll definitely get some sort of weird stare from liam.
pulling the door open, the lieutenant's eyes widen slightly before schooling his expression back into a neutral one, he nods once in acknowledgement before stepping aside to let you pass. but once you're gone, he looks at caleb with a raised eyebrow before stepping inside the office and closing the door behind him.
caleb frowns, annoyed for getting cockblocked and being accused of participating in forbidden behavior (he was).
"meeting," he's quick to say, his defensiveness only growing at his comrade's skeptical expression. "we were having a meeting-- hey, don't make it weird. that's an order."

the next time it happens is in an elevator.
yes, an elevator.
the base is always busy, but somehow itâs busier than normal. recruits are rushing to get in formation in time, others are on their way to the cafeteria for lunch break, and you are stuck on a supply run, hauling a huge crate of medical supplies to the elevator.
your arms ache from how heavy it is, but you carry on. youâre not fond of breaks; they only slow you down in the long run. it doesnât help that these people in the hallways are moving as slow as rocks; you have to purse your lips to keep yourself from telling them off.
once you finally reach the elevator, thereâs a small crowd already waiting for the next lift.
great. just my luck, you think to yourself.
you join the crowd and set the supplies down at your feet with a soft groan. your back aches from supporting all the weight, so you rest your hands on your hips to stretch slightly.
but as soon as you get a momentâs reprieve, the elevator doors open. soldiers start to flood out, and you bite your tongue to resist the urge to scream. you lean back down to pick up the crate, but by the time you have it comfortably settled against your stomach, the elevator is already packed.
there was no way you were were walking up the stairs, and you were too impatient to wait for another lift. screw this base for only having one elevator on ground level.
with a resigned sigh, you set the crate downâ againâ settling for waiting for the next one.
the current lift closes and goes up. you watch in silence, crossing your arms over your chest. but before you can react, you feel a slight force next to you. itâs magnetic and grounding, somewhat heavy, and oddly familiar.
when you look over, the crate beside you is floating.
caleb.
as if on cue, you hear footsteps approach you from behind. the colonel has an easy smile on his face, one he only reserves for you.
âif you needed help, you could have just asked me,â he hums, using his evol to gently place the supplies back on the ground. you shake your head, both flattered and amused.
âitâs fine,â you shake your head. âguess today just isnât my day.â
caleb raises an eyebrow and mirrors your stance, crossing his arms over his broad chest.
âdoesnât seem fine to me,â he retorts. âyou were standinâ around like a granny with back problems before i came.â
you roll your eyes.
âokay. maybe it is a bit heavy. but i can carry it just fine.â
âi know you can,â he replies with mock sympathy. âyouâre a strong girl. youâve been carrying that around all day, though. anyone would get tired doing that.â
before you can respond, the elevator arrives back on ground floor, empty. what a miracle.
you begin to lean down to pick it up, but calebâs evol activates again and lifts the crate off the ground, refusing to let you carry it again.
âah ah,â he tuts admonishingly. âlet me. i can handle it.â
sore and too tired to argue, you let him, sighing softly as you two enter the elevator.
he has a smug smirk as he wins this battle, but says nothing more as you lean against the cold, metal walls of the elevator. caleb reaches over to press a few buttons. he doesnât have to ask what your floor is; his office and the medical station are on the same floor.
with a soft click, the elevator closes, leaving you two alone in a small, enclosed space. caleb sets the crate down at your feet once more, pretending to be occupied as he counts the tiles on the liftâs ceiling.
the silence is quickly replaced by elevator lobby music, but neither of you are worrying about that. it's as if the two of you are trapped together in a little bubble, creating your own world. and there's nothing to do except get closer.
caleb whistles a soft tune from beside you when he realizes the lift will take a while, rocking on his heels back and forth.
"so..." he trails off. "how's your day?"
stupid question. he knows you've been running around base gathering supplies; he's seen you. to his (un)surprise, you shrug it off as you stretch your arms.
"tiring," you admit. "and a bit boring. i'm not used to working outside of the med-bay."
he hums in acknowledgement before silence falls over the two of you again. ever since liam almost walked in on you two, things have been a bit awkward. caleb can't tell if it was the semi-public indecency or his lieutenant that scared you away, but he doesn't blame you.
that situation had him feeling conflicted too. while you were working and saving lives, he'd spent every day since then brooding in his office while thinking of ways to expand this complication between you two past hooking up.
he knows this is against the rules. he knows he could get in trouble for pursuing a relationship with one of his colleagues. and he knows he should stop â but he can't. you simply feel too good to quit.
ultimately, he decides to address the situation. he's never been good with his guilty conscience, and likes to clear things up as quickly as possible. part of this habit also comes from his swiftness as a colonel, but he realizes that he should go about this moment as caleb, not as the colonel.
he also realizes that while the colonel tells him to stop, caleb tells him to keep going. while the colonel says this is wrong, caleb says to ask her out as a way to apologize for what happened.
the colonel is a part of him, but it's not all of him. so he listens to caleb.
"look. about last weekâ" he starts, but you quickly shut him down with a shake of your head. youâd already wiped the horrific moment from your memory, and didnât want it back.
âitâs okay,â you insist, feeling your cheeks get hot. âwe donât have to talk about it if you donât want toââ
he cuts you off this time with an apologetic (yet slightly sheepish) smile on his face.
âno, i want to! i just feel bad for what happened,â calebâs hand reaches up to scratch the back of his neck. âit was unfortunate timing, and i want to make it up to youâ for real. so, i was wonderingââ
ding.
the elevator doors open.
calebâs fists clench at his sides, but his face remains neutral. why is this always happening to him? why canât he have a normal conversation with you without the world constantly interrupting him?
meanwhile, you take this as an opportunity to flee the conversation. not because you donât like calebâ because you do. you really doâ but because you know this is wrong, and because the concept of being in a relationship with your superior still freaks you out.
âitâs okay, caleb. really!â you ramble, picking up the crate of supplies before he can lift, or, rather, float it for you. âwe can make it up some other time, but iâm really busyâ iâll see you later!â
he purses his lips but flattens them out into a strained smile as he waves you off. not long after, the elevator floods again, and it isnât until it starts moving again that he realizes that he should have gotten off with you. his office is quite literally on the same floor as the medical bay.
caleb resists the urge to punch something. he had been too lost in his thoughts (and your beauty) to get out at the correct floor.
then, he sighs softly, accepting his fate and preparing to wait another ten minutes before he can return to his workplace. but the whole way back to his office, heâs thinking about ways to bridge the gap between you two.
damn it.
đË ŕŁŞâš
caleb canât tell if youâre doing this on purpose or if the world is genuinely fucking with him.
he doesnât blame you for being busyâ youâre just doing your job, after all. but itâs as if your job is all youâre doing. he canât even catch you when youâre on break because youâd rather spend that time socializing with friends instead of taking a breath alone.
how is he supposed to approach you in front of your colleagues? and why would the colonel get all shy and bashful around the baseâs medic? heâd rather die than embarrass himself like that.
one day, he figures that if youâre unable to come to him, heâll come to you.
đË ŕŁŞâš
it was an accident. mostly.
before joining the farspace fleet, and even the daa, he knew the risks of flying near the deepspace tunnel: radiation exposure, wanderer attacks, protocore fluctuations, even muscle strain and neck/back pain from flying too long. but none of that stopped him.
especially not when the one mission caleb had been trying to complete for months was just within reach.
the objective was supposedly simple: record data based on the increase and decrease of protocore fluctuations at different depths of the tunnel. but the planes at the fleet werenât suited to handle the immense pressure of the tunnel.
having yet to perfect the durability of the jets, researchers in the fleet still managed to make significant progress. so while the planes could handle the pressure, it wouldnât be for long. caleb knew this and decided to take the risks anyway, knowing youâd be right back on base, eager to patch him up if anything ever happened.
âŚnow, the word âanythingâ was an understatement.
his partners warned him not to go any deeper. the jet itself told him not to push his luck. but as caleb stares at the red letters on his radar, his determination to finish this mission began to outweigh the thoughts of death and destruction.
[warning: cabin pressure low. turn back now.]
he should have listened.
when he next awakens, heâs blinded by the fluorescence of the baseâs lights and by the beauty of your worried face as you and a few other nurses wheel him to the medbay on a gurney.
his whole body hurts, and itâs as if someoneâs splitting his skull open, but seeing your face and hearing your voice makes him feel just the tiniest bit better. in the end, he won.
âcolonel!â you call out to him with the perfect mix of worry and professionalism. âcan you hear me?â
caleb groans softly but manages a nod.
âyeah, iââ heâs unable to finish his sentence thanks to a coughing fit, the taste of metal filling his mouth. your lips press into a thin line as you grab the clipboard from the base of the gurney.
âschedule him for an mri,â you order, your free hand lifting up his shirt to gently press against his abdomen. he lets out a pained grunt despite the shiver that goes down his spine at your touch. âno swelling yet, but there could be internal bleeding.â
a nurse nods and takes the clipboard from you, off to schedule the scan you requested. but your focus is now on him.
meanwhile, his brows furrow.
internal bleeding?
âyou passed out while in the cockpit,â you explain to him, finally wheeling him into an empty room. you pull the blue curtains to section off the area from the outside world. âyouâre lucky your colleagues were there when it happened.â
oh, thatâs right. he remembers now.
the deeper into the tunnel he went, the more unwell he felt. he ignored itâ a bad idea, he later realizes. the last thing caleb remembers was pressing the emergency button to his side.
he frowns slightly but lets you work on him, tracking your every move.
âoh. are they alright?â he asks.
you administer an iv drip to his arm while another nurse hooks up the heart monitor. you glance up at the monitor before cursing under your breath, lifting up his shirt again and pressing your stethoscope to his bare chest.
âheâs a bit tachyââ you declare, looking at the rapid 176 on the screen. âstart an esmolol dripâ yeah, theyâre okay. no major injuries.â
your response is half-hearted, too focused on treating him rather than making conversation. but underneath the professionalism is something deeper than just being professional.
itâs not like you two were professional in the first place, but you care for himâ you really do.
he canât make out what the hell youâre saying. itâs all medical nonsense he doesnât understand, but hearing you speak it is like music to his ears. because of this, he decides to remain silent until a majority of his treatment is over.
he hopes that by then, youâll stop treating him like a patient and more like caleb. your caleb.
by the time the medicine kicked in, the medical bay is quiet, and he can hear you greet the other nurses a good night as they sign out for the day. then, footsteps get louder outside his room.
you gently pull open the curtains, clipboard in hand as you look down at caleb. even when critically injured, he still looks incredibly handsome.
he opens his eyes upon sensing your arrival, his eyes softening his a fraction.
âyou feeling alright?â you inquire, walking over to his side to check his vitals. your gentle hands work methodically to monitor his blood pressure before writing it down on the clipboard.
ânot really,â he tries to lighten the mood with a self-deprecating joke, but straightens out when you seem to take it seriously. âbut i feel better now that youâre here.â
you stay silent for a moment, eyes locked onto the clipboard. then, you turn around, peeking your head outside the curtain. itâs just the two of you in the med-bay.
suddenly, you feel your cheeks flush with warmth. you havenât been alone with him since the incident in his office.
you turn back to face him, standing off to the side of his bed. you donât look happy.
âwhy would you do that?â you hiss, your hands clutching your clipboard too hard for comfort. âyou knew the risks!â
when you scold him, caleb cracks a tired smile. god, he missed your voice.
âworried? aww.â
âthis isnât funny, caleb!â you frown.
âyouâre right. itâs not,â he hums. âitâs cute.â
you quickly shut your lips, restraining yourself from saying anything else. when caleb teases you like this, youâve learned itâs best to keep quiet. talking to him is like talking to a brick wall.
âof course i was worried,â you sigh, your tone softer as you shove your clipboard under your arm. âi always worry when you do stupid shit like this. and maybe iâm worrying more than i should be, because technically youâre my boss, andââ
âgo out with me.â
his words stop your rambling immediately. you glare at him, eyes widened slightly.
âwhat?â
his violet eyes trace over every delicate curve of your face, landing on the soft slope of your lips. his heart hurts knowing that he hadnât kissed them in ages, but he repeats his offer with no hesitation.
âgo out with me. i donât care if i get court-martialed. i want you.â
you swallow the lump in your throat. the moment you had been avoiding was finally here, and youâre beginning to think that youâre the tachycardic one with how fast your heart is beating.
sure, you love your job. but lately, youâve realized that maybe you love him, too. each day without seeing him only leaves you wanting more.
âiââ you begin, but he cuts you off with a shake of his head.
âitâs okay. you donât have to answer now,â he reassures you. âi just wanted to tell you in case we got interrupted again. itâs been weighing on my mind recently, and i would have gone crazy if i didnât do anything about it.â
his voice is hoarse and weak from hours of unuse (you had told him to go easy on the speaking, not wanting him to cough up any more blood). but itâs also sincere and soft in a way heâs never spoken to anyone before.
for a moment, you hesitate. you think of excusing yourself to go get him water. something, anything that would allow you to get away from him and collect your thoughts. but caleb is too perceptive for that.
âdonât run away,â he pauses to take a short breath. âplease.â
those words are all it takes for the wall of professionalism between you two to melt away.
with a sigh, you take a step closer to the edge of the gurney.
âokay. i wonât,â you murmur, hesitating for a moment before bringing your hand up to softly stroke his hair. caleb leans into your touch like a cat, closing his eyes.
the two of you bask in silence. youâve done this many times, but now itâs different. itâs not awkward or tense; now itâs comfortable. intimate, even.
caleb sighs softly, now comfortable despite the lingering ache in his body. he knows the next briefing wonât be good, but all he cares about is you. only you.
your hand lingers on the top of his head for just a moment before slowly removing it. he looks peaceful for once, not worrying about missions or slow recruits. a warmth blooms through your heart, thinking that this look suits him much better.
as you stare at him, you realize that you wouldnât mind waking up to this face in the morning. you wouldnât mind his corny jokes, or the way his eyes crinkle when he smiles at you.
a normal, domestic life sounds⌠nice.
caleb notices the change in your expression and cracks a small smirk, as if he knows exactly what youâre thinking. he manages to prop himself up into a sitting position, his back still supported by the gurney.
âwhat are you thinking about?â he quips.
youâre quick to shake your head and dismiss him, but itâs useless. the two of you are alone, so why did you still want to hide?
ânothing,â you reply. âi just missed you.â
calebâs eyes soften. wanting to return the favor, he outstretches an arm to brush over your cheekbone with his hand.
âhey. donât be like that,â he smiles softly. âiâm here now, arenât i? come here.â
when you obey and lean closer, he meets you halfway with a kiss to your lips. theyâre slightly chapped, but they feel like heaven against your skin as you kiss him back gently, still mindful of his fragile state.
when you pull away, you rest your forehead against his.
âfor the record,â you breathe. âiâd love to go out with you.â
