Have you ever seen a Jervis as tetch
Hi guys… it’s me again…
Here I am again…
So if you’ve ever seen the theories people make about all the rouges reflecting exaggerated traits of Batman, and I don’t often see Hatter or if I see Hatter I don’t always agree with it, so here’s my perspective on what he’s supposed to represent
In my opinion, Jervis represents escapism. Bruce Wayne does use escapism via The Batman, out of a desire to protect people, but also to control a situation that he was previously helpless to. He becomes a hero in a way to escape reality of a dire criminal landscape in his home city.
Likewise, Jervis uses escapism into Alice in Wonderland to escape his lonely, drab life of unexciting and unfulfilling work, as well as severe social isolation that ended up driving him mad. He escapes into the Hatter because not only does the hatter have a permanent companion in the March Hare, his life is exciting and unpredictable and he is important in the story. The Hatter even looks like him. It’s everything Jervis wants to be, and everything he doesn’t have in the everyday life. So naturally he clings to the persona and ‘becomes’ him in a resolve to fix all the issues he sees within his own experience.
Both characters use a persona to escape, but the reason Jervis is a warning to Bruce is because he cannot draw a line between reality and his fantasy of being the Hatter. The obsession with control over his life extends to his adaptation of mind control and eventually forcing people to adhere to his perspective of the world by violating their sense of choice. In turn he’s become a selfish, crazed, amoral lunatic who doesn’t care about the wills of other people, only really that they can be bent to his own because of how lost in his own reality he is.
If Bruce lost himself in the role of The Batman eventually it would become selfish, and he would lose his actual empathic reason to save others. Jervis is a direct example of that, and has fallen into the temptation of creating his ‘perfect world’ by ruining lives and destroying the current one
oh I always thought it would be control but this is actually a really cool take on the characters!
in my au they end up having heavy connections due to the plot (mystery where only hatter and batman know what's going on) and similar roles/effects from said mystery (losing themselves further, bat with his will broken and hatter dissociating seemingly permanently) so this is a really cool take to see!
mind if I pull stuff from it? it works SUPER well for what I'm doing
No issue at all!!! Just an analysis idgaf who takes inspo and who doesn’t!!! Have so much fun :D

I realized recently I haven't properly drawn all of my mane six redesigns in literal YEARS soo time to change that! not much is different, just altered some colors and tried to make them less cluttered but they're kinda iconic the way they are,,can u tell fluttershy is my favorite one to draw...

Warm up studies of Penguins I quite like
one of the best parts of making up increasingly wild and specific aus with a friend is sending them posts like "this is sooo blorbo in torture chamber au number 15" and they reply back like "YESSS btw have i told you about my latest idea for how to torture them even more" and you get to enjoy a little snack and kick your feet with glee
Wip of a comic I’m gonna hold myself to completing🔫
HES SO CUTE
Hi guys… it’s me…
I’m not quite sure how to articulate this correctly but to me at least the persona of The Hatter to Jervis is an example of his ‘true self’ or at least how he sees it. He considers it mad because it’s the abandonment of social norms and embracing every impulse he has. Yes also he sees himself as the hatter on the basis of looks but to me at least it makes sense the way I’m describing since he also often says he relates to children more than adults typically when he’s already the hatter, which to me means he admires and wants to embrace himself the sort of unaware way children go about the world and their own identities. To me the hatter persona is much more about what the character and the madness of wonderland means to Jervis rather than exclusively a character role. Though I also think it can work alongside him believing that he’s actually THE mad hatter
Wonderland can be seen as a critique on the silly social rules we have in society (ie dinner forks, greeting rituals, how we treat people in hierarchy) and sort of makes them look silly because all it really does is introduces new rules that make you go ‘how strange’ while truly the ones we have are just as odd. Jervis sees that as freedom. The mad hatter, as he’s even mad by wonderland’s standards, is representing a freedom from silly rules that make no sense and embracing the world by his own rules.
Jervis previously lived a structured life, he was a scientist, an intellectual, a genius. But he was unhappy and trapped. Causing a sort of blow up that aided his psychotic break into becoming the hatter
Ok thank you everypony
