“K-Kumon…”

There was so much needed to be said that just wouldn’t come out of her mouth. Instead, she threw her arms tightly around the young boy, tears rolling down her cheeks as well.

Moments like this made her feel as if she’s failed as a mother, how could she in her right mind send him to school just to get picked on and beaten?

Tifa wiped her tears, pulling away from him gently. 

“I-I’m so sorry… Mommy really hates seeing you like this…” 

She picked her son up, carrying him into the kitchen so she could tend to his wounds. She placed him down on the kitchen counter, rushing to find antiseptic and bandages. 

“No need to apologize, mommy. It’s okay.”

He gave her a soft smile, wincing slightly when she picked him up and carried him into the kitchen. When she said she would be right back, Kumon nodded, clutching Mini-Lady close to his heart. 

She moved out onto the floor grabbing various mugs and dishes from customers throughout the day. She returned them to the sink behind the counter, mixing in soap while scrubbing them down with a clean rag. She dropped what she was doing as the front door opened.

Tifa turned with a smile, knowing it would either be a customer, a friend, or her dear son. She saw the small blonde boy walk in, clearly in a rush. His head was down, and he seemed to have no intention of saying hello to his mother. 

“Kumon, is everything okay?” 

He kept his head down, running past her up the stairs. Her motherly instincts instantly kicked in, flooding her head with worry. Had she seen bruises? Was he hurt? How could he just ignore her like that. He knew she would do all she could to help… 

She wanted desperately to chase after him, hug him tight, and assure him everything would be okay. But one of her biggest fears was rejection from her own son. He was getting to that age she always feared. The age where he no longer wanted to confide her. Maybe this was a daddy problem and he didn’t want to worry her. Where the hell was Cloud when she needed him. 

It didn’t take long for her to walk up the stairs at a fairly slow and cautious pace. She called up the stairs, wanting to give a bit of warning, “K-Kumon… Mommy’s worried about you… “

“Why did they have to hit me, Mini Lady? I don’t get it... I mean... It doesn’t really hurt and they have done it before, just not this much... They call me really nasty names and always try to make me feel bad about myself just because I’m different, but why? Isn’t being different from others supposed to make you feel better about yourself?”

He paused in mid sentence when he realized that mommy had just spoke to him. Saying she was worried about him. He wailed sadly when she said that. 

He... Didn’t want to worry her. Mommy was the best when she was happy, not worried. 

He hugged Mini-Lady closer to him and whimpered.

“M sorry mommy... I just don’t want to see you worried. I’ll be okay. S’ not like this hasn’t happened before.”

“Why do I get the feeling you’re going to be the death of me?”

“You’re asking me to be rational. That is something that I know I cannot do.”

“Don’t make me kill you.”

“If you’re not with me, then you’re my enemy!”

“So this is how liberty dies… with thunderous applause.”

“To cheat death is the power only one has achieved, but if we work together… I know we can discover the secret.”

“You’re breaking my heart! You’re going down a path I cannot follow!”

“Don’t be too proud of this technological terror you’ve constructed.”

“I find your lack of faith disturbing.”

“I’m getting too old for this sort of thing.

“I’m surprised you had the courage to take the responsibility yourself.”

“In my experience, there is no such thing as luck.”

“I can’t keep the vision out of my head. They’re my friends. I’ve gotta help them.”

“If once you start down the dark path, forever will it dominate your destiny.”

“There is no escape! Don’t make me destroy you.”

“This deal is getting worse all the time.”

“You have failed me for the last time.”

“I know there is good in you.”

“No, you’re coming with me. I won’t leave you here. I’ve got to save you!”

“Soon I’ll be dead, and you with me.”

“This is an unexpected pleasure. We are honored by your presence.”

Zack…

I keep calling you that… but Zack’s not your real name is it?

That’s a nice name.

Beck would blink a few times before answering. Well Lily was spot on about the whole fighting aspect of the Colosseum. Though Xelbots that were here are entertainment for people. Even Beck was part of the whole entertainment thing, which he hates to admit it.

“Hmm? Oh you’ll be fine here. Nothing rarely happens around this part of the Colosseum. Its perfectly safe, well except the lab because my father likes to build stuff.. And well usually that backfires heh.”

The small bot would then tilt his head to one side and thought for a moment. A Maverick Hunter? He never heard such a thing, which made him very curious. Though he thought that he shouldn’t be asking questions just quite yet. Lily was a guest at his home and verse, best to be polite. Beck would then perk up hearing about a tour. He was amazing at tours in his home and the city. The small bot seemed very excited about it as he wouldn’t stand still.

“Oh a tour?! I can do that for yeah. Tour Guide Beck is at your service!”

“That’s good. Not gonna lie when I say that I enjoy the atmosphere here. Though we have tons of Labs all over the place back home, I’m kindah curious if anything is different between what I know and what you know; Beck. Just be warned that I may not be able to answer everything about the Maverick Hunters. They're a military organization after all. Gotta keep some things a secret, but it’s not like I know everything. I’m still in training.”

She gave a happy grin at him when he got excited to give her a tour. To be frank, she was already thinking of being friends with him. Beck was a total sweetheart, and It made her happy to see him so happy. Not to mention that he was a total cutie and made Lily wanna hug him. 

“Awesome! I’m glad that I get to go on a tour with you, Beck! I know we both have questions about each other, so don’t be shy to ask questions to me as well as giving the tour. I’ll do my best to answer and ask questions back. After all...”
