The US weightloss industry grew to a record $90 billion in 2023. With that money, we could:

end world hunger (~$90 billion)

educate almost every child in the world (~$100 billion)

house every homeless person in the US (~$30 billion), build a highspeed rail line between New York and Chicago (~$22 billion), make all school lunches free ($25 billion), triple the budget of the National Parks (usually $3.1 billion, let's give them $10 billion), and still have ~$3 billion left over to, I don't know, fund the National Endowment for the Arts for the next 13 years (usually $220 million)

This morning, I sat through a consult with a coolsculpting clinic while a very nice person told me I could get rid of my back rolls for $3,000, and I could even finance it if I wanted to.

No lie, I'm 300lbs. I'm fat.

But what could I do with three thousand dollars?

take my 3 y/o to Europe to meet his cousins.

buy all my friends a costco membership for the next 5 years.

pay for half of what it would cost to replace the outdated plumbing in my house.

build the coolest garden ever, get all new beekeeping equipment, get at least half a new wardrobe, have my dogs groomed, and get a mani/pedi every month for three months.

Why is it so hard to choose?

Because an industry that could be doing LITERALLY ANYTHING ELSE would rather make money off of us hating ourselves.

MONONGALIA COUNTY, W.Va (WDTV) - The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office Detective Division announces the continued investigation of the theft and destruction of multiple FLOCK cameras. Wesley Jackson, 20, of Gerrardstown, was arrested on July 16 for his alleged involvement. Jackson has been charged with damage, destruction or theft of equipment used by emergency responders and conspiracy to commit a felony, according to officials. The Monongalia County Sheriff’s Office says they remain committed to a thorough investigation and expects additional arrests. House Bill 2066 was passed in 2025 to make the charge ‘damage, destruction or theft of equipment used by first responders’ a felony offense and will have at least 1 year in jail. Jackson has already posted his $15,000 PR bond.
