“Please?” The plea came again, but she paid it no mind, still leaning her head back against the headrest, her eyes shut.

           “Nope.” He let out a groan and she heard a soft thump, signaling that he’d thrown his head back against his headrest.

           “Why not?”

           “Because you’re eighteen Tim. If you were like, I don’t know, twenty-one? Then I’d be more inclined to do it.”

           “It’s only a few years difference.” His tone made him sound like he was pouting, and she would’ve smiled, but the conversation made her words hard. She opened her eyes and turned her head in his direction.

           “And a few years difference can make all the difference.” His lips pulled downwards, and she tipped her head to the side, staring at him as she questioned, “Why are you trying to get me to buy you alcohol anyway? If you wanted some, you could always raid dad’s liquor cabinet.”

           “He’ll know if I do that.” She paused, then nodded.

           “…Yeah…now that you mention it, he would.” She looked at him once more and said, “You never answered my question Timmy…why do you want alcohol?” He said nothing, staring at his hands and picking his nails. The gears turned in her head and she narrowed her eyes, humming, “You want something to take your mind off everything…don’t you?” His hands froze, and he slowly looked over at her; she nodded knowingly. “I figured that was the reason.”

           “…How’d you know?” She faced forward again, looking down at the city through the windshield; after a few moments, she spoke.

           “To say our lives are hard is an understatement. We sacrifice everything to make the world a better place.” She paused, narrowing her eyes at the city. “In order to compensate for what we sacrifice, we find ways to fill the voids. Some find it in religion…some find it in mindless pleasure…whether it be drugs, alcohol, or sex.” She eyed him and muttered, “You’re not the type to go through one-night-stands or shoot up in a parking garage…but you’d definitely try to drown yourself in a bottle.” He raised an eyebrow and crossed his arms.

           “And why do you say that?”

           “‘Cause you’re like me.”

           “And what’s ‘like me’ like?” Her eyes moved back to the front, and they seemed as lifeless as her voice as she admitted,

           “You’re being crushed by the weight of trying to be perfect for everyone and everything. Bending over backwards to make things work, even if your spine snaps. Always letting things slide because you know that fighting them would make a scene and you’d rather die than let that be shown.” She turned to him; her gaze almost omniscient. “You’re a people-pleaser Tim…and when people aren’t pleased, neither are you…and you’re looking for a way to cope with it.” He blinked, too stunned to even try and make an argument; a few seconds later, he regained his mind and he said,

           “You say we’re alike…does that mean you tried to cope?” She sighed, then cleared her throat, her eyes hard as she told him,

           “What I’m about to show you, stays between you and me.” He nodded and she pointed at him. “This is not a joke nerd-bird. If I find out you told someone…after I finish kicking your ass, I will tell the world that you pee the bed.” He shook his head bewildered.

           “But I don’t even pee the bed? I haven’t peed the bed since I was a toddler.” She snorted and quipped,

           “You might not pee the bed anymore…but the world will certainly think so. And they won’t forget it either.” She leaned back slightly so that the seatbelt laid away a few inches from her. She shoved a hand down into her pocket and pulled something out of it. He couldn’t see what it was until she passed it to him, dropping it in his lap; he picked it up, examining it, then he looked at her, his voice unsure.

           “Is this a sobriety medallion?” He paused, looking at it once more. “You’ve been sober for nine years?” Her face turned towards the city and she nodded.

           “I started drinking when I was fifteen to cope for vigilantism and being in the main spotlight. I was good at hiding it though…even from dad and Alfred.” She paused, looking down at her hands. “For four years, I drank…consistently…constantly…to be honest, I really only remember the later months after I turned eighteen and started college. Everything before that was kind of a giant blur.”

           “You made valedictorian when you were in high school? How’d you even manage to do that while drinking?”

           “By studying my ass off and being really good at being an alcoholic.” She paused and turned to him. “The only other person besides you who knows about this is Clark Kent.” His eyebrows furrowed as he questioned,

           “Why does Superman know?” Her eyes dropped as she murmured,

           “Because he saved my life after I jumped off Wayne Enterprises.” His eyes widened, and he was too shocked to speak. “Couple months after I graduated, I just lost all will to keep up the acts. I stopped patrolling…stopped going to school…stopped showing up to formal events…I just…gave up.” Her head dropped against the headrest and she spoke softly. “I wrote letters to everyone in the family and drove to WE. I rode the elevator to dad’s office, then climbed the stairs to the top floor and walked to the edge. After talking myself through what was about to happen, I climbed on the ledge and took a leap. About halfway down someone caught me, and I remember being carried back up to the roof.” She inhaled deeply and spoke again. “Of course, I was angry at him for stopping me, and I screamed and cussed him through a storm…but in the end, I ended up breaking down. A month or two later, I was sitting in an A.A. meeting and I was calling Clark every other day to work everything out.” She looked back over at him. “It took me a long time to get back to where I fell from…no pun intended…but eventually I did. I stopped drinking, I started going to therapy, started going back to school and back to formals. Eventually I found something that helped me get by.” He looked up from the coin, meeting her gaze.

           “What was that?” She nodded to the coin.

           “The medallion itself doesn’t stop you from drinking. It’s nothing more than a promise…but the promise itself is what’s important.”

           “How so?” She shrugged.

           “You remind yourself that you made a commitment to stay sober and to stay true what you’ve promised to do…I’m many things Tim…but I don’t go back on my commitments and promises.” He snorted and quipped,

           “So, the Wayne-stubbornness kept you from drinking?” The corners of her mouth turned up and she reached over, ruffling his hair.

           “The Wayne-stubbornness isn’t something that’s blood lined nerd-bird. That ball plays in your court too.” He laughed and nodded.

           “Yeah…it does, doesn’t it?” She nodded, and went silent, then took his hand; he looked up at her, and her voice was calm, but firm.

           “Don’t fall into the same hole I did Timothy. It’s a dark place.” She squeezed his hand gently. “You’re lucky…you have something I didn’t when I was your age.” He tipped his head to the side.

           “And what’s that?”

           “You have friends Tim. You’ve got Conner and Bart. If you need help…tell them. Or come to me.” She paused and tipped her head side-to-side. “Actually, don’t come to me. My response will be what it usually is.” He cut her off, mocking her.

           “Well here’s a suggestion…get off your ass and do something about it instead of bitching and whining.” He paused and turned to her. “That sound, about right?” She pulled her hand back and thumped his head.

           “It does, but you don’t have to say it like that.” He gestured to her.

           “But that’s exactly what you tell us.”

           “Shut up Tim.” He grinned and she took the coin from him, putting it back in her pocket. “Do me a favor nerd-bird.” He nodded and she said, “When you get home, call pretty-boy and talk to him about everything that’s weighing on you.”

           “Why Dick?” She rolled her eyes and turned the keys, starting the car and putting it in reverse. She put a hand behind his headrest and looked out the back window.

           “Because Dick thrives on playing therapist and solving people’s problems. He doesn’t show it, but he exists for shit like that.” She paused and momentarily glanced at him. “But when it comes to things like this…Dick does have a good heart and mind for helping people through it.” The drive back to the manor was quiet, and when they arrived, she stopped the car; she looked over at Tim when she realized he hadn’t moved. She raised an eyebrow and asked, “What’s your story morning glory?” He looked at her in disbelief, seeing the wide grin on her face before he burst into laughter. It took him a few good minutes before he could respond.

           “I can’t believe you just said that.” She shrugged and nodded at him.

           “So, what’s up yours?” He went silent for a second then looked at her.

           “Thank you (Y/N)…for talking to me…for helping me out.” He paused for a moment. “I love you sis.” (Y/N) smiled widely and leaned over, pressing a kiss to his temple.

           “I love you too Timmy…and you’re welcome.” She pulled back and looked at him. “Now get out of my car before your ass makes an impression in my seat more than it already has.” He laughed at her and unbuckled his seatbelt, climbing out of her Camaro. He stood in the door and looked down at her.

           “Can I call you if I need to talk again?” (Y/N) groaned slightly but nodded.

           “Try to call me if its an emergency, alright?” He smiled and nodded.

           “I will…thanks again sis.”

           “I got your back kid. That’s what I’m here for.” She looked at him and tipped her head. “Night Timmy.” He closed the door and waved as she drove off towards the city.
