Ah, yes... That old and awkward elephant that always hung over the both of them, demanding their lunch money. He hums in thought a moment, taking the situation in. The only Apprentice heâs ever taken on sits before him, downtrodden and filled with that oh-so-characteristic Despair known to their kind. Chaotic and SpaceTime beings were not lucky in terms of the consequential draw of luck, but it was worth spreading as much Hope as they could - especially in such dark times as these.
A multiverse ruled by Balance and Memory could only do so much to grant Humanity a chance at a good life. And, of course, thereâs Melani, the winner of last cycleâs Game. She always did have a penchant for causing others Despair... And this Game was no different. I want a board where suffering reigns supreme and Humanity must be punished for its crimes against me. Thatâs almost what she had said to the Architect upon this Gameâs drawing board. A bunch of hogwash if you ask him.
Still, Despair reigned supreme in his lineage, and he knew it was no fluke that his only daughter sat before him, lonely, desperate, and perhaps a bit afraid of what he might do. He hasnât been the best father for her, nor has he been a good mentor. He has no excuse; despite lacking the proper experience, there is never an excuse to put such innocent souls through the atrocities the Apprentices have faced at the hands of the Players.
Thereâs a certain gold-white glow caused by the fire that really sways his decision to sit across from her on the warm bed she inhabited. Or, well, thatâs what heâd claim if anyone else asked him why he decided to stay that night. In truth, heâd come to beg her forgiveness in the only way he knew how: by being there for her when she needed him the most.
âMy Dear, Iâm going to be blunt here when I say Iâm not here to discuss our Game plan, or our own little training sessions. Iâm here on much more serious business, actually.â
Before she can contemplate what possibly would be more serious than the literal survival of the multiverse and all life thriving within it, he continues.
âI understand Iâm not always here when you need me, and I know I have never explained why the distance between us has grown. But, if youâll let me, I would like to explain it now. Perhaps get some conversation going between the both of us so that we could mend what has been broken. Perhaps stitch in something new while weâre at it.â
The entity adjusts in his seat, leaning onto the one leg heâs hiked up over the edge of the bed. This was all entirely too forward, but how could he skirt around it any longer when he sees the damage so visibly before him? He could almost touch the scarring on their relationship with his bare fingers. It hurts just to think of how many ways heâs avoided the truth and kept her in the dark about things. If they were going to be a team, they were going to have to work together. That meant he needed to be honest with her... no matter how terrible the reality of the situation is.
âThere is a lot I need to explain to you, Miss Dragonette. I donât quite know where to start... but perhaps we could start with where it went wrong. If youâll have me, at least.â
