Isaiah, Sickness, & Apple Cider Vinegar
I missed church this past week due to sickness after taking the previous week off for vacation. I don't think I've missed 2 weeks in a row in the 5 years I've been attending/leading worship at New City. When you are sick, hazy, and isolated from people for a number of days, a lot of things can go through your mind:
I wish I had the energy to go do that thing that everyone is doing.
This apple cider vinegar is gross.
If you think you've lost the ability to taste food when you are sick, try the above mentioned natural home remedy. Sickness, mental or physical, is exacerbated by isolation, lack of truth, and things losing their flavor. We live in a broken world where the enemy can twist these things into our perceived reality. We are quick to come to conclusions not based in truth; conclusions we manufacture on our own. I'm thankful for a God who won't let me squirm in falsities when I turn to Him, and is quick to point me to scripture and provide me with chicken soup (thanks to my awesome girlfirend). After a day of not going to church or singing, I was led to Isaiah 12:
The LORD Is My Strength and My Song
You will say in that day:
“I will give thanks to you, O LORD,
for though you were angry with me,
your anger turned away,
that you might comfort me.
“Behold, God is my salvation;
I will trust, and will not be afraid;
for the LORD GOD is my strength and my song,
and he has become my salvation.”
With joy you will draw water from the wells of salvation. And you will say in that day:
“Give thanks to the LORD,
call upon his name,
make known his deeds among the peoples,
proclaim that his name is exalted.
“Sing praises to the LORD, for he has done gloriously;
let this be made known in all the earth.
Shout, and sing for joy, O inhabitant of Zion,
for great in your midst is the Holy One of Israel.”
Isaiah 12
Like a shot of apple cider vinegar, you remember that things have taste and that God is good, always. Rest in truth.
