Well you’re not the first, let’s just say that. People keep apologising for me when they realise that my life before Surfside was completely shitty.  Yeah, I guess so. I’m still here. Barely made it but fuck it, I’m here.

It’s not a problem. Sure, you’re not badass in the conventional “I’ll kick your ass if you look at me wrongly” kind of way, but it’s more “I’m not going to let you walk all over me”. Hey, there’s a first time for everything!

Newspaper boy is helpful to the society. Bartenders are only helpful for those who have nothing to do but drink. Pretty sure society appreciates me more than you. Well, I guess that’s the problem. Where’re you from, then? Oh, trust me. i wouldn’t be ranting about this if I wasn’t exaggerating.

Who actually reads the newspaper? I certainly don’t. Don’t think I’ve ever read one in my life. Yeah, bartenders are helpful to those who want to get drunk, but they’re having fun. And hey, if they’re paying my wages, I’ll serve them all the alcohol they want. I’m from Ye Olde London Town, dude. England, born and raised, although I’ve been in the States for a few years. What is it about the people of this town and apologising for things that aren’t their fault? Don’t sweat it, cutie, it’s not your fault I’ve been on my own for my entire life. You are, I think I’ll want to keep you around. Especially as I’m the kind of person to run head-first into something without thinking about it. Oh, definitely not. I’m good at my job, it’s why they’ve kept me around even though I’m definitely not of legal drinking age here.

I suppose I can understand that, but it doesn’t sound easy. As long as you’re happy though, then that’s what matters. Well, you never know. At least here in Surfside it’s easy to meet people to surround yourself with!

I’m pretty happy. I’m floating through life and that’s kinda always the way it’s been for me. I don’t know, I hate people getting close to me, bad experiences and all that. I kind of just let people wonder what I’m like, it’s easier.

Of course, you wouldn’t get anywhere near a dog, cause your job is like, I don’t know, lazy asses who sit behind bars serving and chatting up customers until they fool them to pay more. I’m not sure about where you’re from but in America, German Shepherds aren’t tiny and fluffy.

Yeah, that’s fuckin’ hilarious. I work in a bar, so what? Least I can happily say I’m not a newspaper delivery boy. I get paid to have a good time, what more could a girl want? I’m not from America, babe, so nice try. I was merely insinuating that you were over-exaggerating and it probably wasn’t a German Shepherd at all, but a tiny, fluffy dog that you wet your pants over.

Oh wow, you’ve been on your own this whole time? Well it definitely doesn’t sound boring. Do you prefer it that way?

Yeah, I have. It’s no big deal, just the way it’s always been for me, you know? I guess I do prefer it that way. I mean, I’ve never really known any different. It’s not like I have a queue of people here looking out for me. It’s always been me on my own.

Thea, I’m pretty sure we’ve had this conversation. I own a comic shop. Calamity Comics? Who wouldn’t love working at a comic shop? Aside from people who aren’t into that kinda thing.

We probably have, but I’ve slept since then and when I sleep, I forget pretty much everything. I can’t really say I’ve ever really been into comics, but you make them seem okay. Probably because you’re cute, but whatever.

It’s always just been me, you know? No one’s ever had my back before so I’ve looked after myself for as long as I can remember. It’s alright, dude. I mean, you seem pretty cool so I’ll let it slide. You don’t know me so I guess you’d have had no way of knowing I fuckin’ hate being called Anthea. As far as I’m concerned, that’s not my name.

Wow, really? That’s amazing! What brought you to Texas then?

Parents moved to the States when I was fifteen, left my parents when I was sixteen and I’ve been on my own ever since. Wound up here a few months back. It’s not a particularly exciting tale.

My job, apparently! Hilarious? I dare you to get chased by a German Shepard. Now, that’s a sight I’d laugh about.

And what job is that, huh? Can’t imagine there are many where you’d get chased. Please, dogs love me and I wouldn’t be dumb enough to antagonise it. I bet it was a tiny fluffy thing that chased you.

I think I’m going to have to make a confession here… I’m actually not into pumpkin spice lattes. I don’t like pumpkin in general and besides, caramel brulee lattes are definitely the winner here so when the red cups come rolling out from Starbucks, please let me know. Until then, I’ll be hiding away from all this psl-ness.

I’ve never had one so I don’t see the hype. Guess that makes two of us.

Okay! Yeah, that’s probably a good thing, especially if you are looking to make new friends around town. I don’t mind. I gave my other friend a lesson before, and it was fun. So, I don’t think it would be a problem! We can make whatever you want. 

I can’t imagine I’ll stick around here for a long time, but it’s always nice to meet new people and make new friends. Alright, awesome. A cooking lesson... I didn’t expect this to be a thing when I first spoke to you, but I’m pretty glad it is.

I think loyalty is probably the biggest part of being a true friend, so you’re already there. But good. I hope that I don’t disappoint as one.
