My favorite theory/HC of JJK is that Naobito knew that Maki had an Heavenly Restriction like Toji and lowkey wanted her to get as strong as him, but he also knew that Mai was holding her back and making her HR inncomplete but he knew that killing his own teen nephew was a very coward move and telling Mai KYS was lowkey pathetic so he made Mai go into Kyoto Jujutsu Tech because he knew she was not strong enough to make it and wanted her to die so Maki could thrive and have a ungodly amount of physical power and boycotted Maki's grade promotion because he wanted her to work twice as hard to get strong and had a "what dosen't kills you makes you stronger" mentallity.
