Yāall, if youāre going to consume and engage in media that is from outside your country, culture and language, please make sure you are spelling and pronouncing their names right..
More specifically talking about what Iāve seen in the Desire fandom, his name is Wen Lang not Wen Leng, Shao Youās surname is Sheng not Shen, his name is Hua Yong not Hua Young, his name is Pei En not Pein.
Not saying anyone is purposely being disrespectful but it takes 10 seconds to look up how their names are actually spelled, and if youāre going to talk about them on TikTok or whatever practice the correct pronunciations.
Just like the rumors say, she's beautiful as flower. Do you think the Lord of Wei will like her?

Ewan Mitchell as Aemond Targaryen in HOUSE OF THE DRAGON (2022-) S02E08 | "The Queen Who Ever Was"
alright i am sick of yt to mp4 sites being shady and full of viruses and finding websites that seem to be working and then don't work (looking at you y232 (no hate, just frustrated))
so HERE'S HOW YOU DOWNLOAD YOUTUBE VIDEOS WITH VLC!! VLC FREAKIN RULES!!
get your youtube link
open vlc, go to media > open network stream
paste your url in the box and PRESS PLAY!
wait for the video to open then go to tools > codec information
copy the entire file location (click the box, then ctrl-a to select all, then ctrl-c to copy)
paste into your browser of choice (i use firefox)
right click video and press "save video as", choose your file format if you want
DONE! NO VIRUSES OR SKETCHY STUFF!
the quality might be a little crummy but if you don't mind that, then shabam! video on your computer! then you can email it to yourself and have it on your phone too if you want! if you need a guide with pictures wikihow has you covered my friends
happy downloading and stay safe on the internet :D
I FORGOT SOMETHING SHOOT I'M REALLY SORRY
YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR YOUTUBE.LUAC FILE FOR THIS TO WORK!!!
Go to here https://github.com/videolan/vlc/blob/master/share/lua/playlist/youtube.lua
Navigate to C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\lua\playlist (or whatever equivalent there is on Mac; if you have a Mac just fish around in the program files you're bound to find it somewhere)
Open youtube.luac with a text editor like Notepad
Delete whatever's in there and replace it with ALL of the stuff with the github file.
Save the file, restart VLC, and then it should work.
PLEASE REBLOG THIS ADDITION FOR THE LOVE OF CRUMBCAKE THIS IS RIDICULOUSLY IMPORTANT
(and re: other additions in the tags, I hear you and thatās totally fair you want quality! but if you really donāt care and/or those websites are blocked, this is a workaround you can use)
As a side note this is all perfectly legal. When sued by google, the French courts (because VLCs parent organization is French) concluded that because Youtube was distributing their videos for free, people had every right to download them for free, and no violation of intellectual property was being committed.
Ancient redwoods recover from fire by sprouting 1000-year-old buds
Article | Paywall free
When lightning ignited fires around Californiaās Big Basin Redwoods State Park north of Santa Cruz in August 2020, the blaze spread quickly. Redwoods naturally resist burning, but this time flames shot through the canopies of 100-meter-tall trees, incinerating the needles. āIt was shocking,ā says Drew Peltier, a tree ecophysiologist at Northern Arizona University. āIt really seemed like most of the trees were going to die.ā
Yet many of them lived. In a paper published yesterday in Nature Plants, Peltier and his colleagues help explain why: The charred survivors, despite being defoliated [aka losing all their needles], mobilized long-held energy reservesāsugars that had been made from sunlight decades earlierāand poured them into buds that had been lying dormant under the bark for centuries.
āThis is one of those papers that challenges our previous knowledge on tree growth,ā says Adrian Rocha, an ecosystem ecologist at the University of Notre Dame. āIt is amazing to learn that carbon taken up decades ago can be used to sustain its growth into the future.ā The findings suggest redwoods have the tools to cope with catastrophic fires driven by climate change, Rocha says. Still, itās unclear whether the trees could withstand the regular infernos that might occur under a warmer climate regime.
Mild fires strike coastal redwood forests about every decade. The giant trees resist burning thanks to the bark, up to about 30 centimeters thick at the base, which contains tannic acids that retard flames. Their branches and needles are normally beyond the reach of flames that consume vegetation on the ground. But the fire in 2020 was so intense that even the uppermost branches of many trees burned and their ability to photosynthesize went up in smoke along with their pine needles.
Trees photosynthesize to create sugars and other carbohydrates, which provide the energy they need to grow and repair tissue. Trees do store some of this energy, which they can call on during a drought or after a fire. Still, scientists werenāt sure these reserves would prove enough for the burned trees of Big Basin.
Visiting the forest a few months after the fire, Peltier and his colleagues found fresh growth emerging from blackened trunks. They knew that shorter lived trees can store sugars for several years. Because redwoods can live for more than 2000 years, the researchers wondered whether the trees were drawing on much older energy reserves to grow the sprouts.
Average age is only part of the story. The mix of carbohydrates also contained some carbon that was much older. The way trees store their sugar is like refueling a car, Peltier says. Most of the gasoline was added recently, but the tank never runs completely dry and so a few molecules from the very first fill-up remain. Based on the age and mass of the trees and their normal rate of photosynthesis, Peltier calculated that the redwoods were calling on carbohydrates photosynthesized nearly 6 decades agoāseveral hundred kilogramsā worthāto help the sprouts grow. āThey allow these trees to be really fire-resilient because they have this big pool of old reserves to draw on,ā Peltier says.
It's not just the energy reserves that are old. The sprouts were emerging from buds that began forming centuries ago. Redwoods and other tree species create budlike tissue that remains under the bark. Scientists can trace the paths of these buds, like a worm burrowing outward. In samples taken from a large redwood that had fallen after the fire, Peltier and colleagues found that many of the buds, some of which had sprouted, extended back as much as 1000 years. āThat was really surprising for me,ā Peltier says. āAs far as I know, these are the oldest ones that have been documented.ā
... āThe fact that the reserves used are so old indicates that they took a long time to build up,ā says Susan Trumbore, a radiocarbon expert at the Max Planck Institute for Biogeochemistry. āRedwoods are majestic organisms. One cannot help rooting for those resprouts to keep them alive in decades to come.ā

I can't stress enough how much I miss StumbleUpon
StumbleUpon once sent me to a supercut of Lion King, Lion King 1 1/2, and Lion King II, the main edit being that the scenes of Lion King and Lion King 1 1/2 were interspersed so that they happened in the order they actually happened.
stumbleupon not existing anymore can be directly traced to a dramatic decline in my mental health, I could do a thesis on it.
bestie stumbleupon very much still exists its just called cloudhiker now. i use it all the time.
mini compilation of suggestions from the replies:
The Bored Button - "Press the Bored Button and be bored no more."
The Useless Web
Cloudhiker - "Discover the most interesting, weird and awesome websites of the Internet" (not really a rebrand, it's a different person running it but they have the same intention in mind)
Astronaut.io - "These videos come from YouTube. They were uploaded in the last week and have titles like DSC 1234 and IMG 4321. They have almost zero previous views. They are unnamed, unedited, and unseen (by anyone but you)."
Marginalia - "This is an independent DIY search engine that focuses on non-commercial content, and attempts to show you sites you perhaps weren't aware of in favor of the sort of sites you probably already knew existed."
Someone said "Are you really so stupid to think that Africa has the same technological advances as us? If they did they would probably have clean water and not live in houses made of sticks and mud. Get over yourself and stop being so ignorant."..... Below is a tiny collection of images of the Africa they refuse to show you..
ches
Iām sorry youāve been made to believe that the whole of Africa is poor, I really am..
Reblogging for those of you who think Africa is only what the media and movies portrays it to be
This fucks me up because itās scary to think that we can be showed something all our lives and not even know itās a lie
And that my friend is the power of propaganda, indoctrination, and media
Are these pictures of South Africa or of Africa as a whole?Ā
@the-collecting-turnip From top to bottom:
1. Port Elizabeth (South Africa)
2. Unknown
3. Nairobi (Kenya)
4. Pretoria (South Africa)
5. Aburi Botanical Gardens (Ghana)
6. Cape Town (South Africa)
7. Pretoria (South Africa)
8. Harare (Zimbabwe)
9. Windhoek (Namibia)
10. Windhoek (Namibia)
To @kushandwizdom this is a rather unfair portrayal of Africa as a whole since half of these are literally just South Africa.Ā So Instead to add to this post and better dispel the myth of Africa as the vast wasteland of poverty most people think, I found a much more mixed collection of pics from various countries.
Luanda, Angola
Agadir, Morocco
Lagos, Nigeria
Cairo, Egypt
Port Louis, Mauritius
Abidjan, Cote dāIvoire
Algiers, Algeria
Tripoli, Libya
Dar es Salaam, Tanzania
Tunis, Tunisia
So, there, a much better case demonstrating the various major cities around Africa showing it isnāt some technologically backwards continent, but actually pretty up-and-coming in the world of commerce.
I once was talking to my Ethiopian manager about ignorant people asking her dumb shit about her life before she moved to the statesā¦
the worst story she told me about was when she told a fellow student (at a fairly prestigious university) about a concert she went to back home. The other student responded with āomg you have music there!?ā š¤¦š¾āāļø
Rebloging, because we need to see these pictures.Ā
As for stupid questions:Ā ādo you have grocery stores in Ecuador?ā
These are great!
A redneck neighbor once asked my mom (in the 80s) if they had cars in Peru. Sigh.
This is the product of poor world history in school & little current affairs coverage outside Western Europe, except for catastrophes, so all we see are the war torn, poverty stricken, disaster-affected parts on the news. And racism, of course.
I bet most Americans who think that African countries are just completely poverty stricken have no idea what the US looks like in its poorest areas, not everywhere in the US is nice suburbs or unrealistically large apartments on tv
Los Angeles, California
Hartford, Connecticut
New Orleans, Louisiana
Camden, New Jersey
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania
McDowell County, West Virginia
Flint, Michigan
Washington, D.C.
Do you see the world as it is, or as someone told you it is?
This photoset proves you can make anywhere look great or terrible. Itās all framing and more people should know about that
Worth a reblog. I donāt think the US version was on there when I first reblogged.
they literally featured the city of Johannesburg in one of the avengers movies (a little while ago you couldnāt get much more mainstream than that) and people still refuse to believe that Africa is as developed as it is. THEREāS LITERALLY PROOF EXPLICITLY SHOWN IN AN EXTREMELY MAINSTREAM MOVIE FRANCHISE YET PEOPLE STILL REFUSE TO BELIEVE THIS SHIT
