The ones made from feather down pillows.
Soft, a lullaby to soothe your heart.
I will not be able to find the ones to make you stay.
You will not stick around for the aftermath.
My sweet love, know that I have faith in you.
Know that I believe in all that you are capable of.
Torn apart by jagged edges of all the thorns that envelop us.
Our roses, left unattended, growing into a billowing mass of frustration.
I do not see you as I once did.
Behaviors all too familiar I hear reborn in your throat.
Callous remarks cutting me like barbed wire.
Ensnared within the twisted words we weave.
The difference is rearing its ugly head.
Once muted now a loud screech.
It does not deplete me of the love I store for you.
It is but a hazard sign, a cautionary tale.
Regardless of my passions, my mind prevails.
Whispering louder and louder till’ I relent.
I surrender to her strength and listen.
In a gentle tone she speaks,
“Once the sun caught a glimpse of the moon it was destined to be so.
To grow a love, a fearless love,
Love inspired by its glow.
The moon was no different; it had been stricken its light.
Laid beneath the sun’s embrace everything had felt just right.
So they longed for lover’s touch, they stretched, and reached, and inched.
But once they were just close enough their bodies ached and flinched.
Perfect in their peculiar ways but so conflicting all the same.
Forces will repel each other despite their desperate aim.
So now they must recoil, distraught and all alone.
Both beset to blame themselves, though they never could have known.
And as the days and nights flew by they watched each other from afar.
Sullen, dreaming of a world where they both could roam as stars.”
Knelt by my bed side I let her tale sink in.
Devastated by the truth of it.
The sincerity of her tone.
Two opposing paths and so very long to travel.
I collapse and weep a loss that I’ve wept too many times to count.
Bitter that I had caught fire and become the sun.
The ambitions uncomplimentary, parallel to one another.
Too early in their destinies to become one.
And though I wish to gaze upon you,
Pine for you as the days turn to nights and day again,
I know that you will stay far from my line of sight.
Too engrossed in battling destiny to stay a second longer.
Regardless of outcome know that I have not forgotten.
I do know of you and all the glow that led me into your arms.
The light in your eyes, the sincerity of all that you embark upon.
I love you. I love you. I love you.
I’m sorry. I’m sorry. I’m sorry.
