The guide youâve secretly been wishing for: âHow to approach your new media communications classesâ by: Annelise Reed
I want to help welcome you into this new endeavor youâve chosen and make it a little bit easier for you! Media Communications will broaden your horizons and teach you everything youâve been wondering about. From how to attract an audience with different scaled text to understanding the psychology behind it all, here are some of the most important tips to me that I would love to share with you because theyâve helped me succeed and maybe they can help you too.
My first piece of advice is probably the most crucial, and the one youâll hear the most; TIME MANAGEMENT. Whether it be in the form of a calendar, a planner, a daily to do list, or having your Alexa or Siri on your iPhone, remind you when to start working on a project or simply load the dishwasher, having reminders is helpful! It might sound tedious and like the last thing you want to do but having some form of application to yourself is beneficial because it really will make you hold yourself accountable. There are simple ways like what I listed above as well as online sources like âMicrosoft To Do for Microsoftâ and âTodoist.â With so many resources at the tip of fingers, youâre already on your way to success!
Now, do you check your texts everyday? Maybe you even have your notifications on for Instagram and Twitter, thatâs great! (And something youâll learn can be so beneficial for this major!) When starting these classes though, you have to check your messages as much, if not more than, your socials. This is so important because you will often have messages and feedback from your instructors and it could add points even with a simple response in some classes. Understanding the feedback is helpful to you too because your instructor is most likely giving you tips on how to further advance and get better. You can find your messages very easily on under the menu on your online.fullsail.edu account or click the message bubble next to your profile picture (which will also be helpful to have to communicate to your professors and peers.) I pictured those two exact spots and where to find them for you too!
The final piece of advice I want to leave you with here is have fun! Itâs important to make sure you are giving your brain a moment to relax and reload because otherwise youâre going to tire out and fast! Something that I learned here is that itâs okay to treat yourself for finishing a task, as long as you get it done and itâs benefiting you I think this is so helpful. Iâve heard people say they do homework for 3 hours and then allow themselves to nap for an hour before work. Iâve tried things like finishing up a couple projects to give myself time to spend on my hobbies. I guarantee this will help in your success story in such a positive way and some of the best advice I could give!
Well, thatâs all folks! I hope you can say some of this helped ease some of your nerves and and good luck on this new chapter!
WK2 Project: My Digital Story
WK1 Project: My Full Sail Story Expanded
Before I started Full Sail I was in the typical coming of age Netflix film, starring as the mislead but well intended young woman. I mightâve been a little lost but I knew I was meant to do SOMETHING special, I just didnât know what yet.
I had always thought I wanted to be in the media business, wasnât sure the exact title yet but going into my freshman year of high school in August 2011, I knew my mission, the bullies couldnât even get me down! Sure, things got rough and the punches were hard to roll with sometimes I just had to try.
But then my grandma died in April 2012⌠The day right before my 15th birthday, I lost a best friend.
Because of that I built up a flurry of mental health issues and dropped out of high school for a couple of months then eventually going back and graduating early with honors. Again, Iâm not saying it was easy at all because there were plenty of times I almost gave up completely.
Because of that, I knew I could conquer anything and with strife. If it werenât for those hard times the push wouldnât have been as hard.
Because of that I tried college, communities near me, trying to find my place before feeling defeated. Nothing was suiting me and I couldnât get into the motion of anything I was trying to study throughout the two and a half years of community.
Until finally I was scrolling through Instagram at 2 am on a December night and saw this ad⌠âFull Sail Universityâ I followed the link and applied at 2:15 am
And ever since, I decided to pursue my passion for media communications and started the following February. Iâm so thankful I experienced all of these things though, otherwise, I wouldnât be me!
