Reflection
In my view, machismo seems to be supported by the myths and misconceptions that individuals hold in the society. Without a doubt, there are some traditions that view human sexuality differently. For instance, the Mexican culture somewhat considers the men as stronger and dominant over the women. Such beliefs normally encourage the society to discriminate and harass other people who fail to conform to the societal traditions. As I have already noted, machismo is a practice that should have no space in the contemporary society. Machismo leads to the spread of sexually transmitted diseases as it views men to be having power over women. Women are actually viewed by the male chauvinists as sex objects and anytime that a woman resists the attempts from the man, violence and abuse ensues.
Machismo can only be reduced by enlightening the society to abolish the ancient tradition and myths that consider women as a lesser sex. Members of the society need to be informed that all human beings are equal regardless of their gender, sexual orientation, or cultural background. Unless the mindset of the male chauvinists is not transformed, it may be difficult to eradicate machismo in the society.
