Itβs a Manβs Sport? Yeah, Right!
Women are taking over the workplace in modern societyβand taking over in wrestling, too. Men are no longer making all the key decisions.Β

luna + bam bam ( august 30 1993)

WWF Magazine: March 2000
I saw some gifs of Luna and it made me think of how great she was so I figured Iβd draw her again!
In the main event, Bam Bam Bigelow faced Bret Hart in the finals of the King of the Ring tournament.
In the end, after the match was restarted after Biglow won due to the referee not seeing the interference from Luna Vachon, Bret Hart defeated Bam Bam Bigelow to win the King of the Ring tournament. (King of the Ring 6/13/1993)

Shawn Michaels defended the WWE Intercontinental Championship against Tatanka.
During the match, Sensational Sherri prevented interference from Luna Vachon.
In the end, Tatanka won the match by countout after Michaels was unable to get back in the ring, allowing Michaels to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship.
After the match, Vachon attacked Sherri until Tatanka made the save.

Ok Im not done. "Luna" in particular is maybe the most emotional track on Beat The Champ for me personally bc I think it's one of the most gorgeous and heartfelt tribute songs I've ever heard.
If you didn't know, it's about Luna Vachon, who was a groundbreaking womens' wrestler from the 80s to the late 90s. She was a great, hard-hitting performer- more than that, she was eccentric, creative, and fiercely alternative. She refused to conform to the restrictive beauty standards and limited eye-candy roles usually forced on female performers of the time.
She was and still is an icon, but she struggled her whole life with backstage mistreatment, bipolar disorder, and addiction. She became a born-again christian in the 2000's, but then lost almost everything she owned in a house fire in 2009, and overdosed a year later. She wasn't even 50.
Luna was never properly recognized for the huge strides she made in the history of women's wrestling during her life. She was only added to the hall of fame posthumously in 2019.
But the mountain goats song has so much love for Luna, it makes me sob. It doesn't sugarcoat anything. It focuses on the later part of Luna's life, the tragic fade into obscurity and tragedy that haunted her. But it doesn't pity her, and it doesn't accept defeat. It's this swelling, gorgeous piece that celebrates her as a warrior and champion, even in death. It talks about her sadness with the admiration and dignity that she always deserved but was so often denied. It's exactly what a tribute song should be- it honors her, the way I think she'd have liked to be remembered.
Rest in peace, Luna.
