Animation Help, And Callouts

Ok, so this is a theory about the new gems, as well as some things I find interesting, that will be in the 1 hour memorial day premier, so please do not read if you don’t want spoilers. Also, two things real quick: I am on mobile, so I won’t be able to add pictures, apologies. And two, this is a theory based on information given at this moment and may change depending on the information we get in the new episodes.

Now, I will be focusing mainly on what is presumed to be the “reject squad”, aka, the gems that obviously don’t fit the homeworld society norm. However, I believe Moonstone (I think is her name), the gem who Steven meets before confronting the Diamonds, her purpose is rather obviously a Lawyer (building the case, saying Steven was going “on trial”), but this also gives us a new insight on Homeworld. This shows that while Homeworld is mainly a Dictatorship, where anything the Diamonds say goes, there is some sort of Judicial system in which Gems are able to have a case that they present in front of the Diamonds (where they seem to be both the Judge and Jury), which I find rather interesting and it shows a new side to gem society. Now, for the reject gems. First off is the Sapphire. She is a very different color from the Sapphire we know, and her coloration is much closer to a Ruby, and I think I may have an idea as to why that is. Now, Peridot said resources were dwindling on Homeworld, and one resource may be the very material used to create gems. And one such material may be Corundum, which is what comprises of Rubies and Sapphires. Rubies being red, Sapphires being many different colors, but what from I have read, BLUE Sapphires are the most valued and most popular. Now, for the Orange Sapphire. It’s possible that because her coloring is so close to Ruby coloring, her powers are the weakest of all Sapphires, which seems to results in her making very late predictions/predictions after the fact. And in Homeworld society, she is useless in a sense. But this may come with a bonus in that because of how close her coloring is to Rubies, she may be a very good fighter compared to other Sapphires, but that is unknown at the moment.

Next is the conjoined twins. Now, it’s kinda hard to see their gem in a lot of the screen shots, but one I was able to find was rather clear, and it seemed to be very close to the gem shard fusions, except it seemed much cleaner and less shard like than the other experiments, so here’s a couple theories: 1) In that kindergarten, it seems really sloppy, so there were most likely plenty of defects, such as the Orange Sapphire. It is possible that TWO gems were grown in the same spot, which resulted in the two fusing together somewhat, causing them to emerge like that. 2) They are a shard fusion, but the shards are from the same type of gem/much larger of something so the fusion was much more stable than the ones on Earth. 3) Rather than a shard fusion, they are a gem fusion where two gems were stuck together to see what would happen when they reformed or something. It may not be any of these options, hopefully we’ll find out.

Third, the 2 gem fusion. It’s most likely a Pearl/Ruby Fusion. The nose, thin arms, height, and thin shawl thing is very reminiscent of Blue and Yellow Pearl, and is most likely the traditional Pearl outfit. The Ruby side is a bit trickier, but from the thicker arms, the square-ish hair do, as well as the outfit is very reminiscent of Rubies. It may also be a Quartz, but I find that unlikely simply because the overall fusion would probably be much larger or thicker and the hair would most likely be longer if it was a Pearl/Quartz fusion. And there are a couple possibilities for these two as well: 1) Like earlier about the kindergarten, the Ruby and Pearl may have been put too close together and ended up as a fusion and were reluctant to unfuse when they emerged. 2) The Pearl was a personal Pearl, the Ruby was a personal guard, and they ended up bonding and ended up fusing and running away from their owner or whoever (kinda like Garnet). 3) They may have fused in a life or death situation, but Homeworld was so against it that they didn’t care about the reason, they just wanted them to be shattered for going against the norm. And again, maybe it isn’t any of these, who knows.

Now, for the uh… Goodness, the last one. She appears to be a fusion of around 6 gems, maybe more. There were 2 on her forehead, 3 on her chest, and 1 on her stomach. She is HUGE, and her body seems to be a caterpillar. Like, there might be even more gems on her. Her voice is really slow, and somewhat worn, like an old woman. I honestly am not even sure what to make of her. I don’t know if she’s a willing fusion of all those gems, if she can’t unfuse for whatever reason, I just don’t KNOW what her story is and I just… Yeah, if anyone’s got an idea on her, I’m all ears.

which is another thing: lars fans, for the most part, are like ‘lars has done some bad things’ .. like , they don’t deny that he isn’t Lawful Good. but if lars was white, there’d be TONS of people like ‘uwu my sweet precious baby who never did anything bad ever uwu’. like, js, the draco in leather pants trope rarely affects poc.

Edit (Bonus): 

Studies of big masses of smoke

After animating smoke for a while, I’ve noticed that I am always doing the same ones and that sometimes the shadows and highlights don’t even make sense… It happens when I animate without reference and when I am not really paying attention to the volumes. Another thing is that we don’t use outlines at Ankama so paying attention at light and shadows is very very important in order to make smoke believable and not flat.

Sort of follow up from the hair tutorial yesterday, mixing in a bit of this quick tutorial too. Hopefully this is easy enough to understand ^^’ one of those things that can change a lot depending on the animation.
