Nice day for a white wedding || Emma & James
James groaned and walked around the house aimlessly, seemingly not knowing what do to. Emma was off somewhere and with a quick glance out the window, James noted that it was far to wet and cold to really go anywhere. He wondered what Sirius, Remus and Peter were up to, but he didnât really have the heart to owl and bug them just because he was bored. With a reluctant sigh, James plopped himself down on his sofa, facing the front room window. Out side he watched as snow hit the windowsill, he watched as the frozen water was turning his once green lawn into an icy tundra. James smiled to himself and snuggled himself more into the cushions. Maybe it was a good thing he was by himself today, more time to think.
James leaned back and out of the corner of his eye, he saw something flash. Curious he turned his head and an automatic smile lit his face. James reached over and grabbed the frame from the side table and sat it down in his lap. His eyes only saw her at first, as always. Her hair had been perfect and her dress- completely amazing, and Emma herself- there were simply no words. She was gorgeous. James leaned back into the chair and sat the picture down on his stomach. His eyes began to close and the memory of he and Emma began to form right in front of him.
"Whereâs Emma?" James asked without looking behind him. He heard someone close the doors but didnât answer right away. James brought up his hands and attempted to straighten out his tie. He heard the person mumble something but James wasnât listening. He grinned at himself in the reflection of the mirror. His hair was a mess as usual, but he supposed if he combed it- he wouldnât look like himself. James pushed his wire-rimmed glasses further up his nose and let out an anxious sigh. He turned back and faced his best friend. "I guess we should go then, yeah?" He watched as Sirius grinned and nodded his head. James beamed back and walked out the doors. Decorations were scattered beautifully around the building. James grinned nervously a his best man and idly wiped the sweat from his palms onto his trousers. "Emma did show up right?" He watched as Sirius rolled his eyes at him. James noticed that he didnât answer, but James still prayed that sheâd show- she had to, right?
Not too long, the groom finally made it to the isle. He beamed at her side of the family and then gave a dorky wave that he regretted as soon as he gave it. He saw his friends, and gave them a wave also, hopefully a less dorky one. Finally he arrived at his designated spot and stood there. He smiled at Remus and Peter, and then his eyes didnât waver from the spot where Emma would appear. After a few agonizingly long minutes the music started. Anticipation grew and his stomach turned into knots. In a few moments, James would be wed. To Emma, the person he loved above all others. James watched as the wooden doors opened and after a long moment he saw a flash of white. James felt his simple grow to as big as it possibly could and he tried to force his eyes not to water. She was walking down the isle and looking positively gorgeous.
Fuck. How could she possibly have forgotten to tell James about Sirius? She swore she had mentioned it at least once before, if only briefly, but if she really hadnât, then it was only her fault. Everything was her fault, and she could only go so many feet with her thoughts churning like this. Grabbing Jamesâ hand, she pulled him to a halt in the middle of a hallway.Â
"You want to know about me? Fine." Her voice was a bit louder than she intended for it to be, but she continued. "I was born on April 13th, my family all loathes me and most of it is my sisterâs fault, when I was growing up my best friend is now your best friend. The only reason that he even tolerated me was because his little brother made him, and I hated you for all these years because I blamed you for taking him away from me. I have a Siamese cat, my favorite food is Pumpkin Pasties because I have a terrible sweet tooth, and my favorite color is green even though itâs terribly clichĂŠ. When I grow up, I want four children because Iâm hoping my attitude towards babies and small children will change when I become a mother, and Iâd really like them to have blue eyes because â â
She stopped, suddenly unsure of whatever nonsense she had been blabbering on about as other students stared. âBecause you have blue eyes and I think theyâre really nice and youâre the first person besides Sirius that makes me want to do things for someone other than myself.â Emma chuckled bitterly and ran her hand through her hair. âAnd I have absolutely no idea why I just said that, but there it is, okay? I donât want to fight either. I hate fighting with you, James, and I especially hate when itâs my fault. So justâŚâ she paused, shifting her weight, scared to approach him, âSay you forgive me please? It wasnât even like he proposed or anything â heâs never been able to stand me. I didnât even know until this summer, and by then it was already off.â Thousands of different ways to tell James that she loved him spun through her mind, but she doubted he wanted to hear any of them, and questioned if she herself even meant a single one.
James felt her hand tug him and he glanced back at her. He stopped in his tracks and looked down at her. He watched as her emotions were displayed clearly all over her face. James shifted in his place as her ranted off random facts about herself and James tried to make a mental note to remember all of them. It would probably be his luck that he would forget nearly all of them, especially her birthday. He opened up his mouth once to interrupt her, but it was a lost cause. Once Emma got into something they was no dragging her out of it. He listened to her explanation of Sirius and it calmed his heart down a bit. Feeling guilty over his selfishness that he had her for real and Sirius never really did, even though it clearly caused Emma pain.Â
As soon as Emma mentioned children James froze and tried to make himself seem calm and collected on the outside. Which he failed most likely. As soon as his brain registered she was talking about the future and not now, James felt his body relax again. Merlin this girl was going to be the death of him. He listened to her sweet words and couldn't help but smile down at her. She was so sweet without even trying.Â
James reached his arm out to invite her into a hug. "Emma you are the most sweetest and most idiot woman i have ever met." He said with affection. "I di wish you had told me before, or if even Sirius had mentioned it- though you cant be faulted for the latter. I just wish you and Sirius could at least be in the same room without contemplating murder constantly." James paused and then added, "I understand if you cant do that right now, but maybe we could work on it? Baby steps perhaps. If we are to have blue eyed children then you and Sirius really need to work this out. I refuse to loose either of you." Â James pulled her into a tight hug and rested his head on hers. "We seriously need to work on going one day without a fight, love. Its tiring." James said lightly. It was at that moment James felt something for her, he couldn't place a name on it. Love would be the closest emotion, but James couldn't bring himself to voice it. H e wanted to be completely sure before he said those words. He wanted to mean them this time.Â
Headcanon 005 | Alcohol
James had always been a "social drinker" since he was about 14. When Sirius introduced him to the famous taste of fire whiskey and since then, it has been his escape. After his mother passed, alcohol was the one thing that James relied on. After that, any time of stress James will grab for the bottle without really considering the consequences. One would think that after doing so many stupid ideas under the influence, that James would give up something that turns him into a complete other person but he doesn't.Â
James has ruined friendships and relationships because of his problem. It ended up with him diving a wedge between him and his father because of his addiction. He lost complete control and he didn't even know who he was besides this new, angry person. It was his father who actually snapped him out of this facade. It was a hard thing to face, but James threw out his stash and forced himself to stay positive.Â
As he grew older, and after his father's death, James' alcohol problem diminished. Not completely of course, but he has better control over it. He'll only drink occasionally with the boys or sometimes when he's in a particular mood but he doesn't abuse it as much as he used to do. With graduation just on the horizon, James knows he has to fix his issue if hes able to actually do something with his life and if hes going to be able to keep his promise to his father. He's learned how to deal with hardships in a more healthier way, without immediately grabbing for his favorite drink.

Harry noticed that his father had a habit of rumpling up his hair as though to keep it from getting too tidy, and he also kept looking over at the girls by the waterâs edge. âPut that away, will you,â said Sirius finally, as James made a fine catch and Wormtail let out a cheer, âbefore Wormtail wets himself with excitement.â Wormtail turned slightly pink, but James grinned. âIf it bothers you,â he said, stuffing the Snitch back in his pocket. Harry had the distinct impression that Sirius was the only one for whom James would have stopped showing off.

Headcanon 004Â | Quidditch
Most people who knew James would always claim that he was practically born on a broomstick. Even before he could crawl, his father would spend late nights going over quidditch to his newborn son. As James got older, his fatherâs enthusiasm for the wizarding sport got transferred onto him. James would often steal his fathers broomstick and go out flying around into the sky in the morning and wouldnât come down until later that night. James spent much of his childhood memorizing every detail of that game, and trying to figure out all the possible moves for each player. His father would often take him to the official games, and James would watch bright eyed with a beaming smile on his face. As James entered Hogwarts, he knew which extracurricular activity he would be participating in. He didnât have to wait long before he was accepted as the chaser for the Gryffindor quidditch team in his 3rd year and after that it was no surprise that he was awarded quidditch captain in his final year at Hogwarts.
As James grew up, he realized with this war as bad as it is- there was no chance of him becoming a professional quidditch player. He put his broomstick into his closet and applied to be an auror. Helping innocent people survive was more important then playing his favorite childhood dream. Though, even though he doesnât play professionally, James still adores the sport. Heâll try and go to every game that he can and heâll try and take time out of the week to play a quick game or to even fly by himself.
Headcanon 003Â | Rain
When James was younger he loved to run over to the glass doors leading out to the backyard and just plop down, and watch as the sky turned grey. He watched as water came pelting down on the world around him. Making his bright green lawn, muddy and filled with water. His mother would be in the kitchen cooking, making the house smell amazing while keeping everything warm and cozy. With so much energy his parents would always joke at him and ask how he had the patience to watch the rain but James never answered them. He would just give them a bright smile and turn back to the cold weather. To this day, James still loves the rain. He loves to watch it through the windows in his cottage. When he was in Hogwarts, he would always purposefully make the quidditch training be on a day that was forecasted for rain. He would claim that it was just because it might help if they did get caught in the rain for a game but that wasnât truthful.
It calms him, the rain. It gives James a strong sense of security, even as the world around him is going up in flames. Water has always helped relax him muscles after a long day of training and shooting off curses. Long showers do the trick as well, but its not the same as when  he has been out in the rain. Feeling his skin prickle with cold and his black hair getting matted to his forehead. The rain will always be Jamesâ favorite type of weather. From childhood til death.

Emma sighed deeply and abandoned buttoning up his too-big shirt for a moment to look at him. âJames, itâs not that I donât like him, because thatâs not true. We used to be best friends, we-we used to be engaged!â She searched for the right words for a moment, then realized it might be a bit easier if she hadnât just told her boyfriend that she used to be engaged to his best friend. âWhatever, just forget it,â she mumbled, aggravated with the whole situation, and turned back to buttoning up the shirt.
"I donât want to go to my room, James, I already said so," she snapped, grabbing the trousers from him and yanking them on over his shirt, holding them up at the waist while she rummaged around in Jamesâ trunk for a belt. "Merlinâs saggy left â why the fuck is everyone taller than me?" Once a belt was secured and everything was held in place, Emma made her way back over to the bed and sunk onto it, burying her face in her hands for a moment.Â
She looked up at him from between her fingers and smiled half-heartedly, reaching out for him. âI â â she had been about to tell him she loved him, growing so accustomed to how it sounded the last few weeks, but stopped herself and changed her words before it was too late, âIâm sorry. Dinner sounds great, but you really donât have to buy me a dress. Getting to be with you is enough, Jamie, as pathetic as that sounds.â
James felt his heart jump to his throat. She had been engaged to Sirius? Sirius. His best freind? James brought his hand up to his hair and frantically mangled it up. He walked away from her and tried his best to calm himself down, but didnt seem to manage it. "What do you mean you were engaged to Sirius?" He said, his voice tight. He couldn't believe that Sirius had never told him. Though, he could almost see the loathing in his eyes whenever Emma was mentioned so maybe that had something to do with it? James made a mental note to find Sirius later. He turned back towards her. "When was this?" James let out a frustrated sigh and rubbed the back of his neck. "There is so much that we still don't know about each other, Emma. Why is this?" James nearly demanded. "We spend most of our time either arguing or shagging and, not that i mind the latter but we really need to actually get to know each other."Â
James waited and then grabbed her hand and started walking towards the door. "Fine, we don't go to your dorm then." He replied, his voice still tight. He opened the door and let her leave first and then he followed suit. He then stopped abruptly and took her hand. "I dont want to fight, okay. I dont want to be annoyed right now. Lets just, try to have a pleasant day out, okay?" He leaned forward and gave her a kiss. He wrapped his arms around her small waist and pull her body towards him. He then let go and then started walking back down the staircase, didnt bother to look at the bystanders in the common room and left with Emma through the fat lady's portrait.Â
