You'd only been gone a couple days, Albedo had been so certain of the cycle, he always was. He was so calculated with his heat cycle not only for personal reasons, but because heat could easily mess up any experiments he had running.

He wasn't meant to start for a week, but the moment you step back into the icy wastes of Dragonspine, that scent, faint though it may be, hits your nostrils and has you shivering, but not from cold.

Even through the frigid cold, you can smell cecilia flowers all the way from the base of the mountain, and you're immediately off in a run, why? what could have caused him to go into heat so early? It doesn't take you very long to reach his camp, and you're already panting, not from over exertion but from the sheer self control. You weren't sure if it's albedo's scent exactly, or something else, but his scent had always been so difficult for you to ignore, from the very moment you'd met him.

Albedo himself is...surprisingly normal, hunched over a nearby table, if it wasn't for how stiffly he was standing, you'd think you'd made a mistake. Though the moment you call his name and he looks over- oh yeah, he's definitely down bad. Face flushed and sweaty, eyes blown wide. Archons what was he even DOING out of a nest?

As it turns out, he hadn't made one yet, somewhere in his stammering you manage to pull together some jumbled sentences about experiments that couldn't be stopped, didn't have the time, didn't expect the potion he'd drank the other day to have this effect- oh gods this idiot had drunk a potion. You know how he gets when his experiments are interrupted, but you, as his alpha can't just leave him like this either. So you ask him if he can leave them for ten minutes.

at first he seems panicked, flightly, but all you need to do is give him a look and a gentle kiss on the forehead and he calms, taking a moment to breathe and to set things up. It wouldn't be long enough to sate him properly in the least, but it'd be enough for his mind to focus again.

The moment he gives the all clear, you're on him. pushing him up against his alchemy table until you have to hike him up onto it, suffocating the poor omega with your mouth, an act he certainly doesn't resist. Nor does he resist the hand down his pants, the other one latching firmly into his hair. By all accounts, albedo was already a wonderful omega, so pliant under your touch, but he always melted just that little bit more when you got rough.

This was a side to Albedo that he would only ever show you, and in turn, this domaneering side was something he only ever got to see. Female Alpha's were rare enough. Perhaps you'd started out as Albedo's test subject, willing to be experimented on in the name of furthering the understanding of what caused the alpha genome to appear in those assigned female, so what if it had evolved into something more?

The original experiments be damned, something about this eccentric, yet calculated scientist had gotten to you, and apparently something about you had gotten to him in turn. you're reminded of it every time you look at those puncture marks over his scent gland, a stark reminder that he was yours. Even now as he buries his face into your shoulder to muffle his moans, helpless against your touch. Quiet pleads only barely reaching your ears.

Albedo isn't a loud person, even in his pleasure, but he shows how he's feeling in different ways, like the way he all but falls back with the slightest nudge, arm thrown over his face in a horrible attempt at hiding just how desperate he was as you yank his bottoms away.

He is however, a whimperer, a squeaker, the small half-moans and choked sobs as you all but fold him like a lawn-chair and breed him the way he wants. Loving the flustery shakes of his head as you whisper horribly dirty things into his ears.

As much as you'd like to, you don't knot him, not yet, he'd be awfully upset once the haze clears, because knotting meant he couldn't move to check his experiments, and an unhappy omega led to an unhappy alpha, after all. It wouldn't last long, an hour or two at most, enough for you to at least set up some ramshackle nest for him, really this wasn't your thing, albedo always built the most beautiful, cozy nests, but he had things to do, and was managing to get by even though his legs were still shaking,

Life is uncertain. A good day can easily turn bad at the drop of a hat. A good man can turn evil without warning. Every second is precious, and this is the feeling that Kaeya has carried since meeting you.

Follow me through the dark, let me take you past our satellites.

Your first interaction, as a new arrival in Mondstadt, turning up at the Favonius headquarters shivering and dishevelled. You’d run across a packed hillichurl camp during your wonders, a classic case of wrong time wrong place, drawing hordes of them after you all the way up to the gates of Mondstadt. The knights on guard duty had been quick to rush to your aid as you collapsed, doubled over in exhaustion. They bundled you off to the headquarters shortly afterwards, giving you a blanket, some hot chocolate and bit of space to recover. You’d taken a shine to Lisa and Jean, who were both concerned about your wellbeing, praising your bravery and suggesting that you might stay with them for a while and assist them if you had nowhere else to go. The cavalry captain however, radiated a slightly less friendly aura. He seemed a little more calculating, more mysterious. Like he had secrets.

You noticed however, that throughout the time you were at headquarters he had never taken his eye off of you.

Your first date, well more a scoping mission, had both of you attempting to suss out the other’s true intentions. Kaeya, trying to determine whether you had any nefarious intentions and if he could trust what you said. You, trying to figure out what he really meant beneath those slick words and working out just how many masks he was wearing at any given moment. You could laugh looking back. You remember the tension in the little café that day, thicker than concrete, until thirty minutes in you had thrown your hands up in exasperation, having had enough of the psychoanalysis. You remember how Kaeya had caught your wrist before you were able to leave, an apology in his eyes and a guilty expression, he was sorry for putting you in distress and making you uncomfortable, would you please stay? He’ll make it up to you.

You’re glad you did.

Your one month anniversary. Things seemed to go a little smoother after the disaster of a scoping mission first date. Despite being in Mondstadt for around two months, you had yet to venture outside of the city walls since running across the hillichurl camp. With Kaeya there though, you had felt ready to brave the outside world again. Kaeya carried the picnic basket with ease as you picked your way through the long grasses to get to the open plain, his free hand helping you to keep your balance and occasionally starting to stray further down. The food was delicious, you remember, Good Hunter did indeed do the best stuff. Sitting on the picnic blanket, a gentle breeze wafted through the air as you leaned back into Kaeya’s chest. Watching the clouds roll by, it was the most content you had felt in months.

Your one-year anniversary could have gone a lot better in retrospect. Kaeya had a penchant for dramatics, especially when it came to expressing his love for you. When he announced that he had a surprise for you, you couldn’t help the involuntary chill that went down your spine. What had he planned now? You had sworn to yourself, if he had tried to rent out the entire theatre in Mondstadt again or persuade Albedo to come up with a potion that formed ‘I LOVE YOU’ out of clouds, you’d end him yourself. Meeting Kaeya at the fountain outside of the Favonius headquarters, you’d sighed as he produced a blindfold, tying it around your eyes and escorting you to a destination that felt ages away. The ticklish sensation of grass around your ankles made you even more nervous, and your mouth gaped when he removed the blindfold to reveal a giant hot air balloon.

“We’re going to fly in that”, he had stated, as if you couldn’t come to that conclusion yourself. This was absolutely the most terrifying idea you could think of, but the grin on his face was so bright you didn’t have it in yourself to refuse. At first, it was going quite well. And then you hit a cliffside. The impact tore an enormous hole in the side of the balloon, and the height began to drop faster than you could process the situation. You had never felt as much panic as in that moment. Kaeya was quicker to react, scooping you up and creating a succession of ice bridges that allowed the two of you to reach the ground just before the balloon completely went into the cliffside. And exploded.

In contrast, celebrating your five-year anniversary felt almost like a dream. After 5 years, you had both come to a nice understanding of how to balance each other’s likes, dislikes and so forth. Your anniversary was more low-key. A quiet home cooked dinner set amongst flickering candlelight whilst soft piano played in the background, providing a perfect setting for a long make out session complete with interspersed cuddles and sweet nothings. You’d never felt so happy, basking in Kaeya’s touch and the fact that his presence could mean so much to you.

That day had only been last week. You’d been riding on a high since then, the world casting a soft glow. But today felt a little different. You were no Archon or anything, but the air felt just a little off. Whether it was bad or good you couldn’t tell. You also couldn’t find the one man you wanted to talk about this with. You’d tried his office, Angel’s Share, you’d even gone to Dawn Winery to ask Diluc for goodness sake. But Kaeya was nowhere to be seen. Diluc was evasive, saying he hadn’t seen his brother since yesterday and that he was probably slacking off, as inefficient as the Knights of Favonius were wont to be. He’d shooed you out as quickly as he possibly could, only pausing to ask if you’d checked ALL possible places, before slamming the door in your face.

You were, very confused to say the least. Diluc normally welcomed you with open arms and sat you down at the counter with some juice and a snack whenever you came over. He did have a point though. You hadn’t looked in every location. There was one more place.

You really didn’t want to go there though. The hike up Dragonspine was so cold and so slippery! You were sure Kaeya had taken you there on your third anniversary just to laugh at you as you struggled to stay balanced upright and as you shivered even with three layers. He was fine with his Cryo vision obviously, but you suspected he might be having just a little too much fun hooking an arm around your waist and running his hands over your body every so often ‘to keep you warm’, as he put it. The cheesy grin never left his face that day.

Even though you’d made sure to wrap up warm and wear your snow boots, it was almost as if you were inviting the universe to do the inevitable. You’d tried so hard to avoid the iciest of patches, yet it was the smallest patch of ice that tripped you up. At this point you’d just given up, ready to accept your fate. But the icy impact you were expecting never arrived, and instead you felt a pair cool arms pull you into a firm chest. You didn’t want to open your eyes. You knew EXACTLY what coming next.

“I know you’ve fallen deep for me but isn’t this a little too much?” a teasing voice asked.

“Kaeya…”

One look and he absolutely knew he was going to get it. Still the grin never left his face.

“Where were you?! I was looking everywhere! You have no idea how worried I was! You made me climb up Dragonspine!”

“I’m sure I do know how worried you were”, he replied smoothly, pulling you upright and drawing you even closer. “But let’s not sweat the small stuff my little blizzard. I’ve got something to show you.”

You pouted at the nickname, it was Kaeya’s favourite one that he liked to use as you were his ‘feisty little blizzard’. He was probably trying to soothe you over, but you were determined to keep your anger as much as possible. He made you climb up Dragonspine! By yourself!

Kaeya looked at you, waiting to see if you would object. You shook your head.

“Show me then. I didn’t climb up all the way here for fun you know.” He laughed as you buried your face into his chest, pout there all the while.

“Don’t hide from me little blizzard. Look up.”

Out of nowhere, snowflakes had begun to fall down in quick succession. They came slowly at first, each individual pattern clear as day and no one was the same, then thick and fast until all you could see was Kaeya. The snowflakes seemed to illuminate him, creating a white glow that made him look otherworldly.

“Beautiful.”

You weren’t sure who said it first.

Then as soon as it started, the blizzard stopped. The air around you cleared and standing in front of you was a beautifully intricate gazebo, made entirely out of ice. You walked forward, stepping into the gazebo, quite unable to believe that this was real. The ice glittered in the sunlight, elegant thin pillars propping up a soaring roof whilst the floor was decorated with delicate snowflake pattern.

You turned around. “Kaeya –”

You can see the world you brought to life.

Words had never failed you before, but the sight of Kaeya on one knee had taken away all the words you’d been planning to say. He looked you straight in the eyes, holding your gaze as you struggled to remember how to breathe, a deep blue box in the palm of his hand.

“I didn’t trust you when I met you.”

You blinked. Then you frowned. “That is the first you say when you’re about to propose?!”

Kaeya couldn’t help the grin that broke out then.

“Who says I’m proposing?”

“Kaeya you have a ring box and you’re on one knee.”

“It could be empty.”

“Kaeya!”

“Shh you’re distracting me.” He smoothed his trousers, still on one knee and ring box firmly in his palm.

“Ever since I met you, I have tried to value every second of my time with you, of our life together. You are the most precious thing to me, someone I will fight against the world for to protect. Yes we almost died on the hot air balloon ride but the important thing is we didn’t and that I saved you like the gallant captain I am.”

You couldn’t help but roll your eyes at that.

“You accepted me for me, despite my past, despite all of my flaws. Every day I strive to be a better man for you, to continue to be someone worthy of your presence, your love. I am forever thankful for you and it would be the best gift I could ever receive if you’d agree to make more memories with me. It would mean the world to me if we could forge a new future together. I could imagine doing this with no one else. Only you. It always been.

Would you do me the honour of marrying me?”

Once again Kaeya Alberich had rendered you lost for words, and you could only sob happy tears as you launched yourself into his arms, him catching you easily.

“You made me walk up Dragonspine for this”, you whispered. “I wouldn’t do this for anyone else.”

“Your answer, little blizzard?”

“Yes you dummy”. Kaeya grinned into your hair as he rocked you gently, still sobbing.
