Upon making eye contact with the girl, his lips curve into a rare, soft smile and he takes a few strides forward. He shouldered his way through the crowd, stopping just a few feet from her. Squall’s smile disappeared after a few moments, brow furrowing and a hand coming up to scratch lightly at his cheek.
“…You’re here too.” He said, almost upset by that notion. He’d been hoping it was just his mind playing tricks on him. A familiar face among the crowd had been welcome… but he wouldn’t have wanted any of his friends to wind up in this place.
His fingers traveled upward across his cheek to slide through his hair until reaching the back of his neck. An exasperated sigh rose from his lips and his head tilted to one side. “I… really wish you didn’t have to deal with this place.” He said softly, scowling a bit as he looked down at her with a faint tilt of his head.
Whoa now is Squall actually smiling? At her? For real? For a moment the teen has the strong urge to pinch herself and see if all of this is really just some sort of dream... After all, for the brunet to smile at anyone or anything is such a rarity in and of itself! In fact, Rinoa doesn’t recall ever seeing him smile during their time together.
Regardless, the raven-haired girl finds herself beaming back at the other, noticeably overjoyed upon seeing him within her presence. However, the moment he speaks, her smile drops slightly at the melancholy tone within his voice. He’s right, of course; neither of them should have to be in this place when they have so much to do back home...
But showing anger and sadness in this moment isn’t going to help her or more importantly, him.
❝ Aw! Well, isn’t that sweet of you to say! ❞ she laughs lightly, placing her hands on her hips as her caramel hues look up at his visage.
❝ But no need to fret! Now that we’re both here, I have no doubt in my mind that we’ll find a way to get back home. Two heads are better than one, right? ❞
