Today’s Hidden Gem Is… You Are Umasou
You Are Umasou is like my all time favorite movie- it’s actually the whole reason I started this blog in the first place! It’s such a heartwarming yet dark unique perfect story I just skjfjskshdbsj
I’m sorry the poster is in bad quality, this movie has no US release but the whole thing is avalible on youtube I reccomend it more than anything else
If you need more convincing though, I shall elaborate :3
You are Umasou is a 2010 japanese children’s film based on a picture book seires by the same name. The story centers around parenting, and the trancendent nature of a parent’s love for their child vs their instinctive nature. This might sound cheesy, but the delivery of this theme is down right inspiring and just good story telling. The pacing of the plot is fantastic and the world itself feels rich with life and adventure.
The actual plot of the film centers around a dinosaur name Heart, who is a t-rex that was raised by herbovoires who as an adult raises a herbovoire himself. He struggles with his instictive need to eat meat and his self worth of being a father, and he undergoes great character development.
The characters themselves have really simple and unique designs, and though that might seem like a turn off to some, it allows for some really kick ass animation.
I’m not kidding, there are alot of action sceens in this film that down right took my breath away.
It’s an expressive, creative, and soulful movie, and I just feel so much love from the creators in every frame. It’s an absolute must watch.

god, GOD Freddie Mercury was such a fucking badass
This doesn’t do the moment justice. He took the swig of vodka, said “I’ll fucking do it darling”, and then ABSOLUTELY NAILED IT in one fucking take
Mood for 2019: “I’ll fucking do it, darling.”

I’m getting my oil changed, sitting in the lobby while I wait, and this lady is talking to the clerk about some kind of payment she needs to make (a store card, maybe? Probably). She asks if she can make her payment in store and the guy says, “Cash payments, yeah.” Lady: “So can I use a debit card?” Clerk: “No, unfortunately, that’s the downside. You can make a payment in store, but it has to be cash.” Lady: “So I can’t use a check or a card?” NO LADY YOU FUCKING CAN’T HE SAID CASH PAYMENTS ONLY TWICE JFC I HATE PEOPLE
(Since tumblr’s reply system sucks, let me try that again on a reblog.)
This reminds me of the single greatest thing I think I’ve ever witnessed.
I was grocery shopping once at a store where their internet was down (or whatever they used like… 15 years ago?… to communicate with credit card companies). There were signs EVERYWHERE that said “No Credit Cards at this time. All purchases are Cash Only.” Big ones at the registers too, but the cashier working my line was also telling every person before ringing them up.
This guy in front of me let the cashier ring him up and then HANDED OVER HIS DEBIT CARD. I am almost certain the cashier didn’t even say anything before calling for a manager, but when the manager got there, she was like, *totally robotic, dead voice of a person who has literally said this a THOUSAND TIMES*, “We’re cash only today.”
The customer said, “That’s a debit card. It’s just like cash.” And he was super condescending about it.
So the manager opened the cash drawer, took out a 5, 10, and a 20 dollar bill and proceeded to study all the bills next to this man’s debit card. I mean, squinting and smoothing her finger over the corners and everything. (My money is on this woman being a theater nerd, lol.)
But anyway, I’m starting to quietly lose it, because this has just turned from annoying to The Best Thing Ever in the blink of an eye.
Finally, the manager goes, “You’re absolutely right, sir. Sorry for the inconvenience, it’s EXACTLY LIKE A 10 DOLLAR BILL.” She opens the drawer, puts the bills away, PUTTING HIS DEBIT CARD ON TOP OF THE PILE OF 10S, and calmly says, “Your remaining balance is (whatever his total was less ten dollars).
Of course the asshole customer lost his fucking mind and started ranting, and I’m sure that manager caught hell for it, but dude. Best Power Move Ever.
I have no idea how it actually ended because the cashier opened a different line to check us out, but man. I will never forget that.
This lady is my hero. May she still be out there, in perfect health, destroying entitled assholes like a wrecking ball.

Corfe Castle was one of the first stone castles in England and of great importance throughout history. It sits above the village of the same name in Dorset, atop a hill. It was built by William the Conqueror in the 11th century, on a site where there was once an old Saxon hall; it is thought that it was where King Edward the Martyr disappeared while visiting his step-mother Aelfthryth in November of 978. The castle was often in use and was near the royal hunting forest of Purbeck. Many kings added to it: Henry I built a stone keep by 1105, and John and Henry III added halls, walls, and towers. During the War between Stephen and Matilda, it withstood a siege by King Stephen. During the Wars of the Roses, Edmund Beaufort used it as a holdfast. In 1572, Elizabeth I sold it to her Lord Chancellor, Sir Christopher Hatton. His family sold it in 1635 to Sir John Bankes, Attorney General of Charles I. During the English Civil War, Parliamentary forces struggled to invade it, and once succeeding, mostly demolished it. After 1660, with the restoration of the monarchy, the Bankes family regained the castle and in the 1980’s, bequeathed it to the National Trust. It is now open to visitors.
