i think kripke had a vengeance to hurt homelander in the final season, despite the purpose of his character being that he is indestructible. my unhinged theory is that cunt got so in his head about homelander being trump, that he thought it was fun to show him faint and have his face melt, because, take that trump!!! haha!!! despite it breaking canon. it seriously became more important to him to do this than give the end of homelander’s story justice; HOMELANDER. not fucking trump, homelander is separate, with reason to be evil. trump was not brought up being experimented on in a lab. he is a real world threat that shouldn't have messed with a fictional story. they are not comparable.
couldn’t even think of some unique way either; something the show could have explained as “nobody tested this on homelander yet”, even if that'd be lazy. no. they used radiation and gas. things which he definitely was subjected to in the lab, and made resistant.
he and the writers made fun of him all season, with the "softest, wettest boy" bullshit, because it’s so funny making fun of a traumatised character that cries and want love apparently. they are the ones who made it so he was engineered to experience emotional turmoil in wanting love. somehow now that fact is funny???
i know not everyone wants to empathise with homelander, he did stuff that was irredeemable. but at the core of his character was trauma, something the final season ignored. what did we get instead? a trump shaped punching bag, that despite what some people think on a surface level, was out of character.
SPN S01X01 PILOT REVIEW
I'm still in season 1 so I thought... Why not go back and psychotically go over my favorite scenes in every episode? (with gifs!) Yeah... I had a lot of time to waste. This blog has wincest.
This is not an intelligent review, it's not theory crafting, or any sort of meaningful critique. This is just me being enthusiastic about scenes I like and me having fun making gifs!
Overall
Let's say this isn't the best pilot episode. I mean, I liked it, but it doesn't sell the idea of the show in a way that immediately reeled me in. It's certainly fun tho! And god... everyone is so young here, barely recognizable. What I can say is that it presented the dynamic between the Winchesters pretty well, there's still a LOT to develop, also they're not that shippable yet in my opinion.
