LONG POST UNDER THE CUT
How does Maxwell being a werewolf work within the Percy Jackson universe?
OKAY SO... In this specific AU? Werewolves are TOTALLY a thing. Like, imagine being surprised about werewolves in a world where gods from several different pantheons exist simultaneously and teenagers are tasked with things said gods probably should've been able to take care of themselves daily?? Pfft, as if! Lycanthropy is like, not even in the top 10 weirdest things going on here /pos
Now, the way I’ve designed it specifically for Maxwell’s backstory is pretty insane. So, Zeus—drama king, lightning daddy, the OG of overreactions—has this thing where he would sometimes curse mortals who pissed him off by turning them into creatures stuck between their human side and wolves. Like, just imagine doing something Zeus even perceives as non-worshipping and BOOM—“You’re a werewolf now, insert name. Congrats.”
Anyway, over several generations (because let’s be honest, werewolf fuckers have always existed) the curse doesn’t just go away—it sort of mellows out, like lemonade left out to sit. It's still lemonade but without all the carbonation (AKA: cursed aspects). What used to be a punishment to your great, great, great, blah blah blah becomes a hereditary trait—often considered the Lycan gene. Every werewolf has it to some degree, and depending on how many generations deep you are, your "wolfiness" varies.
Maxwell? He’s specifically a fourth generation werewolf (Great grandfather → Grandfather → Mortal Mother). That means he’s:
Generally calm enough to control his shifts outside of the full moon... Unless you know, some monster tries to kill his boyfriends. again. again. again. You get the point.
Still has all the abilities and partial curse of a first gen werewolf without the unquenchable bloodlust 24/7 (He still has that, he can take it out on a raw steak though).
Stronger than, say, a 20th generation (because the curse does take a while to wear off completely) werewolf who just has some werewolf features and maybe a few wolfish instincts.
And so forth.
Does Maxwell have any godly parents?
HELL YEAH HE DOES and of course it’s gonna be Ares (Greek god of war, battlelust, violence, et cetera) because you can't convince me Ares wouldn't look at some werewolf chick with blood staining her entire front side after a particularly adrenaline-inducing hunt and not fall in love.
Maxwell is 100% the perfect mix of war god and puppy dog, and honestly? Ares is kind of platonically obsessed with him (in a way he would NEVER say out loud because, ew, feelings?? That's gross). But like… it’s absolutely there. You can totally tell. Especially when he talks about both Maxwell and Clarisse like a proud football dad would.
BONUS FACT — Maxwell is also very, very, very protective of his found family // pack. He’s lowkey the “big brother” (despite him only being a teenager) to other Ares kids whether they like it or not... He’s the type to scoop them up in a big bear hug and/or headlock and not let go until they "accept his love".
What’s Maxwell’s relationship with Nico di angelo and Will Solace?

In all seriousness though this is my FAVORITE part and I’m 100% going to get feral about it (like, full on foaming at the mouth kind of feral).
I'm not quite sure how they all meet at first but my two favorite options are:
— Maxwell imprints on both Nico and Will like some Twilight coded manaic wolf biy and is NOT at all subtle about it. The moment they first meet he’s all like, “These two are mine now... If anything happened to them I'd kill everyone in this room and then myself.”
— orrrrr we go the angsty ALTERNATE UNIVERSE (Meaning this one probably won't be canon) route where Maxwell has some major internalized homophobia and ends up taking it out on them. Will of course yells at him like “We’ve survived monsters. Gods. Death. You? You’re just a scared little boy who can’t handle that two boys kissing makes his dick twitch and his brain short circuit.” and it ends up snapping something into place in Maxwell's brain (Cue a long journey of healing and a slow burn to an eventual relationship).
Either way once they start dating? MAXWELL GETS SO MUCH WORSE... Like yes he’s absolutely positively terrifying in battle but he also:
Cooks every single meal for them but constantly forgets that werewolf and human metabolisms aren't the same and makes like… entire feasts for a light snack.
Calls them all different sorts of cheesy nicknames to show how much he loves them... Nico gets ones like Moonlight, Will gets ones like Sunshine, and they both get stomach achingly loved dovey ones like Mate (He's a stereotypical werewolf what can I say?)
Doesn't care about where they are — will absolutely smother his partners with affection even when in public! It's nothing like just straight up making out but he'll definitely kiss their foreheads, hold their hands, say "I love you" every twenty seconds, excetera.
INSISTS they wear his hoodies (They're way too big for the two of them but that just makes it more adorable). He doesn’t give them a choice either and is just like “Here *insert nickname*, you shouldn't totally wear this 👉👈”.
Carries Nico like a princess whenever his body gets all achy from any of his disabilities... Maxwell doesn't care if they’re in the middle of Camp Half-Blood either. “Maxwell. Put. Me. Down.” “No <3”.
Repeats things to Will as many times as he needs when said sunshine doesn’t hear things correctly due to him being hearing impaired.
Doesn't make any of his partners’ disabilities a huge thing other than accommodating them whenever they need it + DEATH GLARING anyone who even so much as hints that it’s a burden.
He’s basically the himbo dream with a scary rottweiler exterior... The ultimate contradiction! He looks like he should be fighting in some underground ring but is actually following his boyfriend to the bathroom at 4:30 AM because he's "Gotta protect you from any monsters, baby boy" (Read: He's scared of being alone without his boyfriends </3).
And like?? His tagline excuse is literally: “I’m your mate boyfriend now, that means it’s my job to be all domestic for you!!!” because in werewolf relationships no matter what the gender is, the more powerful werewolf—or just the werewolf in general if there's only one—ends up being the more domestic // submissive (/nsx) one to even out any existing power dynamics.
Does Remedy still exist in this AU?
