Fluorescent Adolescent

Opening number This one was fun! I was a little thrown off by the plaid/flannel themed clothing, but the parts where they were all in sync were amazing.

Cat is already cracking herself up. Poor Derek is injured :( and apparently he’s automatically going to be in the bottom 3 next week? That’s really sad and could end up working against him, but I get why they did it. 

Hailee and Jaja (Jazz) This was probably one of the best opening routines this season. It is clear that Hailee is the jazz dancer and she shines in this piece. Jaja’s facials are awesome as usual, but it is a little clear that the choreo has been toned down for Jaja and I would’ve liked to see this piece done the first week with Alexia and Marissa. That being said, Jaja still did amazing and deserved the praise she got. Also, how distracted were you because that song was Gaby’s audition song?

Neptune and Alexia (Hip Hop) THIS WAS SO FUN. These two are both growing on me hugely--I love Alexia’s positivity and how she isn’t taking the Stage vs. Street thing too seriously, and I LOVE Neptune’s work ethic and TALENT! Anyways, this was so fun. Neptune finally packed all the personality we’ve been missing from the first few weeks into one routine, and Alexia picked up where Hailee left off, with the jazz girls killing HH. Alexia could’ve toned down the stank face maybe 10%, but this was awesome overall.

JJ (Argentine Tango) Derek was supposed to be the partner here--a real shame, I would’ve liked to see him do ballroom. Anyways, I feel even worse for him now, because I think his package showed the most personality we’ve seen from him so far (”America’s spying on us... kinda creepy” I was cracking up). Anyway, JJ did great with what she was given. That ballroom training that she mentioned came through, and she seemed very comfortable in heels (her feet were great the whole time). The lifts here were phenomenal. That being said, every ballroom routine I’ve seen on this season has made me feel even WORSE about the lack of trained ballroom dancers. Comparing this routine to the last Leonardo and Miriam A Tango with Tanisha and Ryan, well... there really is no comparison.

Jim and Ariana (Contemporary) This was good. Ariana got to show off her training, and I actually agreed with Jason for once--I know Ariana is trained, but to look that good next to Jim the technical beast is crazy. That being said, this was not a standing O piece for me, partly because why were they dancing on satellite dishes? Also, Fox decided that in the middle of the routine it was really necessary to give me a “severe thunderstorm warning” about several counties in New Hampshire. I do not live in New Hampshire. Also, what’s with Nigel’s stupid comments? Last week dance cured racism, this week it cures depression, and next week, who knows? Global warming? The Iran nuclear issue? Who knows? The possibilities are endless!

Virgil and Gaby (Broadway) Finally, a non-weird style for Gaby! THIS WAS FLAWLESS. I love the new choreographer and the fact that he is dying laughing on the floor because of these two just like a regular fan. I love Gaby and Virgil separately and together (character Olympics!) I love the choreo. I love that Gaby tapped. I love that Virgil got to show off his Broadway skillz. THIS WAS GREAT HOORAY.

Asaf and Kate (Jazz?) So, this... happened. Kate danced circles around Asaf. Asaf was not good as usual. What I found awful was the judges’ comments. Jason saying he does not regret their decision last week is NOT HELPING THINGS. Paula talking about trusting your partner--really?? THEY TOOK OUT ALL THE LIFTS. CLEARLY Asaf couldn’t do them, so actually it showed Kate had zero trust (for good reason) and I don’t blame the poor girl for crying. I think that package was totally at odds with what the judges were trying to say, because it clearly showed the backlash from keeping Asaf. As my sister commented, probably the best thing about having Asaf at this point is that people end up feeling sorry for his partners and voting for them.

Marissa and Yorelis (Hip Hop/Animation) This pair is 10x more likable together than apart! Yorelis’ pre-package thing was a little depressing, though, like she’s very talented and being a go-go dancer is a real waste. Anyway, I kinda agreed with Jason! again! on this one. It was good but Marissa just didn’t have it like Yorelis did, she was too stiff in between movements. 

Edson and Megz (Contemporary)  MEGZ. WAS. PHENOMENAL. The end.

Team Street Group Routine This was so fun! Very telling that at the beginning when everybody got their little showcase that Asaf basically takes his hat off and that’s it. Whatever, if the judges save him twice in a row it’ll be ridiculous. Anyways, this was fun and had a nice look overall.

Team Stage Group Routine This routine was cool. I think I liked the concept more than the actual choreography, because holding on to the lights the whole time really held the whole thing back.

I’ll be surprisingly sad if Kate goes home. She’s grown on me, especially after this week. I’d prefer Marissa to go home, I just don’t connect with her. ASAF MUST GO.
