its going to take a long time and then its perfect

dear zion, you were awesome. 

my casual desk cry today is the happiest one of late

my cousin wrote the above about her grandmother. to be clear, this is not the grandmother we share in common. it’s her other grandmother, whom i had the pleasure of transporting to her baby shower a couple years ago. her other grandmother, who happened to live where i live despite none of us growing up here. my interactions and time with this woman were limited and yet i feel tied to her.

this cousin, author of the tiny letter, and i have always had a lot in common (bossy oldest children, avid readers, sports fans, now lawyers) but we were not necessarily close. i have told her wholeheartedly that her friendship has been one of adulthood’s greatest gifts and she has confirmed same. i love having her as family, but i am so proud and honored to have her as my friend. her writing is a perfect balance of humor and heartbreak. i love every installment and not simply because they feature people i love.

watching: the defiant ones (way late to the party, so great), insecure (most underrated show around), ozarks

listening: trying to dig out of the revisionist history podcast backlog, fleetwood mac’s rumors forever and ever amen

eating/drinking: beers or rose every night

birthdays, beers, baby showers, etc

listening: zadie smith’s swing time, burned through the podcast accused, the musical podcast 36 questions

eating/drinking: everything under the sun at restaurants more often than not
