I chose Petra Collins because I always admired and related to her work. Her photographs always feel intimate, honest and DIY. 

This work consists mostly of either analog shots or iPhone pictures to give a more intimate and nostalgic look it it. 

I plan on filming my video on an iPhone 5SE and using an analog-looking filter on it even though I still don’t know what I’m going to film.

‘Coming of Age’

Petra’s book ‘Coming of Age’, addresses the struggles that young girls face as they approach adulthood. The book begins with her own childhood pictures, letters, and a short essay about her own struggles with family and mental health. She then progresses the book using art and photographs to showcase the obstacles that are brought about in the processes of growing up as a young girl. She uses bright lights and colours to highlight her models, “her photos have always sought to present women in a way that isn’t exploitative and sexualised, and instead grants them power in their rawness.”
