I used to spend endless hours thinking about these faeries. I would play with them and write stories about them, dream of them. And now, I miss them.

But everything changes when you go away, and you can’t dive back into a dream (unless you’re me).
So, I just re-watched Almost Famous because I’ve been thinking about it a lot lately (and fondly), and now I remember that this movie pisses me off. It captures the era/essence of the 70’s music scene so well, but it’s not actually a good movie! There is too much going on, it’s overly sentimental, the protagonist is more annoying than Nick Caraway, and the dialogue sucks, yet comes off as pretentious. I want to like the movie, but I just don’t. The soundtrack, costumes, and cinematography are amazing, though. And there are some great (even iconic) scenes, but as a whole, the film just fails. I kind of feel like all Cameron Crowe movies fall a little flat, yet so many are acclaimed...people are just fooled by filters and nostalgia.

Julia Margaret Cameron, So like a shatter’d Column lay the King, c. 1875. Illustrating Tennyson’s Idylls of the King.
Tennyson and Cameron were friends. Cameron was a sort of poet’s companion. I think her poetry is visually stunning.
