someone please write this angst with a happy ending, career ending injuries, a wedding in one certain european small town, nicojack future fic the fuck down. take it, i beg. ðŸ«
Jack never lifted the cup before his retirement due to injuries. Luke was traded to the other brother's team. Nico and Jack have lost in touch since then, and Nico knew this was what Jack wanted. Jack was just a name would have been brought up occasionally by reporters at Nico's interviews.
Nico's wedding was planning held in the summer. His fiancée suggested to invite some of his old teammates who she hasn't have a chance to meet with, including Jack. "You were close, right?" she went. Nico didn't say no but deeply curtained that Jack wouldn't check the box.
Offseason, Nico was checking the final guest list with her. Jack was on the list with a plus one, obviously a man's name, a fucking random one that Nico couldn't recognize, not even a player as far as he called. "Is that his partner? Didn't know Jack is gay." Nico couldn't hear her bright voice, he was so furious but couldn't, there's no reason to feel that way, he told himself.
"We don't have to, Nico." the voice popped up in his head that he almost forgot. No way that man would show up with a male partner, in where hockey was the only matter.
"Doesn't matter, babe." Nico finally found his voice, and managed it soft. he turned a page. As a professional athlete, he knows how to block any news, voices, pictures, or memories before games, if have to. Nico did text Luke to thank him making it. He didn't ask anything further, couldn't think of.
People arrived days before the wedding, guys were planning a bachelor party for Nico, said every Devils and former Devils should come. "No wives, No strangers!"
The floor was packed. Jack wasn't here. liquor wasn't enough. Should have text him. The number must be alive. Jack
"Luke, where is Jack? He came with you?" finally someone brought up.
"Steve was ill since landed, they were staying at hotel."
"Who the fuck is Steve" Nico didn't say it out loud. Must someone did.
"Wait, he texted he is on the way."
