An Offer You Can't Refuse
"Sorry, but I donāt have anywhere nicer," she mused, chuckling to herself, her own inside joke. She jutted her head back toward the bar. "This is as close to home as it gets." As sketchy as the place looked, sheād literally spent the night in the ally just a block from the barā¦.Not a conversation starter, but it was the truth.
"And you didnāt catch my name because I didnāt give it. Iām not stupid. Some guy comes up to me outside a bar in the middle of the night, claiming that he wants to āarm meā? Is that the first person youād give your name too?ā She smirked, arms crossed over her oversized leather jacket, faded darkwash jeans and red tanktop beneath. āWhy donāt you start by telling me your name.ā
The comment about this being close to home... The old part of him, the altruistic, let-me-do-anything-to-please-you part of him melted. Ā He wanted nothing more than to take her back to the Range Rover and take her to get some new clothes and then take her back to the mansion he'd recently re-purchased and get her some food that wasn't soaked in grease. Ā Hell, he'd cook it for her if need be. Ā The new part, made of tinder and desperation and chemicals tucked under his skin didn't melt; it caught flame.
It wasn't that her words didn't make sense. Ā Far from it. Ā They made too much; he wondered, for a moment, if he weren't rushing things... Pushing this girl too far, too fast. Ā Slow hadn't been his style, not for a good damned long time. Ā As he looked down at her - not down on her, not at all, justĀ at her - the blue in his eyes seemed to retreat, pupils overtaking irises and a slight amber hue glowing within as he took in her appearance. Ā The dark hair, the gorgeous face. Ā The glowing intelligence and dangerous nature. Ā His old friend; desperation. Ā It didn't even occur to lie.
"No. Ā You've got a good point; I wouldn't. Ā My name's Aldrich Killian. Ā Lead the way; wherever you'd like to go is fine by me."
