Thinking about the concept of a "good person" who helps other people, and who deserves to be saved, and understanding other people, and how videogames are such a good format to explore that. In my first run of BG3 I was playing an heroic dwarf paladin who kills the bad guys and protect the innocent. I killed Minthara and Orin without hesitation, cause they were the bad guys! I was thinking I would had to kill Astarion if he continued with his plan to Ascend if I couldn't convince him to not do it, and he was the most evil person on my team.
Then, I played Durge, and everything changed. Now I was no longer a pure soul who never did anything wrong. I killed many people, some of that outside my control. Now Minthara was a complex human being who I wanted to live, an ally to my cause, someone who lived similar experiences as I did. Astarion was suddenly kind of a very understanding guy about my situation. Orin stopped being a flat evil villain to be a tragic mirror of what I could had been, who saved me from this fate without wanting to. When I was happy to kill her as paladin tav, i was devastated to not be able to save her as durge.
Now, neither of these characters really changed at all. They were always like this. The one who changed was me, as I could "be" different characters with different experiences. Now I could explore more of their story, but also I was more open to try to understand them, in a way that my good heroic paladin couldn't. And that is part of the magic of rpgs to me.
This just reminds me of that time a few years ago (I don't remember when, it could have been a decade or more back) when Tumblr was flooded with discourse over people (mostly teens and twentysomethings) trying to argue that repeated shoplifting was radical anticapitalist praxis, and a bunch of other people (often people who actually worked at the kind of places being shoplifted) going "what the fuck are you talking about". Good times, good times, except this time it's Hasan Piker's smug self-satisified face (also apparently Art Spiegelman's daughter? You'd think he'd have raised her right)
Oh yeah, they called it "lifting" like that made it not a crime.
Oh yeah I had forgotten that part!
Isn't Piker rich?!
"the rich don't play by the rules" like when you partied in Cuba and the entire island was without power except for your hotel?!
I absolutely despise that animal abusing misogynistic pos Hascum. Little spoiled shits like him who advocate for - and shoplift ARE the elitists spitting on the struggling people. Especially when they harm small businesses, these ones are on the top of my shit list.
Sincerely, a tired, small businesses building immigrant who is sick of privileged brats. Oh, and your expensive ass humanities university degrees don’t make you smarter or superior to others.
oh ok
the man who owns and runs the thai restaurant in my town knows me by name. he is one of the kindest and most thoughtful men i know. i started ordering from his place back in january, which was when i got my fibromyalgia diagnosis. back then i was using a walker, had limited mobility in my entire body but especially my hands, and was very visibly in pain. i always ordered the same thing: yellow curry with no meat, potatoes and carrots only (i have texture and other dietary issues). he always made it a point to make sure i could get out the door and carry the food safely. he had his workers package the food so that it was easier for me to open. as i kept coming back and i told him a little bit about my health status, he would always encourage me to keep going. he told me about how the spices he used were good for inflammation and began to edit the recipe just for me so that spices that were even better for fighting inflammation were used. he’d give me extra portions and despite the fact that i would tip every time, i realized later that he never charged my card for them. as time went on and my condition began to get better, especially with the help of a physical therapist, he would make encouraging remarks and tell me how happy he was for me. the day i came in without my walker, he practically jumped for joy, and despite my insistence, he gave me my meal for free that day. i continue to make progress with my conditions and i continue to go to the thai place. this man who does not know me personally and who i hardly know anything about is one of my favorite people. it’s interactions with humans like these that make loving life easier. and his curry really does help my chronic condition. it’s comfort food taken to the next level.
This is what I think about when people ask what the meaning of life is

Women’s protests in Afghanistan are an important issue that deserves much more attention from the media.
A few months ago, I was on a tram when I met an Afghan woman speaking Persian. Since Persian is my first language, I joined her conversation. She shared her hope that one day Afghan women will be able to protest against the Taliban, just as women in Iran have done.
Today, Afghan women are showing incredible courage by standing up against policies that try to control their bodies and their lives. These policies, introduced since 2021, have included restrictions such as revoking access to education and limiting women’s presence in public spaces.
I hope they will be safe, free, and heard.
literally every character who's been mind controlled and made to do terrible things feels awful and has trouble accepting that it wasn't their fault, meanwhile minthara baldursgate is like remorse is for losers and i didn't do anything wrong in my entire life ever
Tbf characters whose only intended “flaw” is them feeling guilty about something that is not their fault can be incredibly frustrating, especially if they whine about it constantly and have to be validated by the rest of the cast.
Minthara is unique in a way that despite not blaming herself for what her infected self has done, she does everything to make sure it never happens again. She is also mature enough to not wallow in pointless guilt as she has likely experienced a lot of different pain in her youth (probably having all kinds of terrible feelings regarding the Vandree priestess).
Fuck the Islamic Republic, finally a few moments of internet after 2 whole fucking months of this shitty country blocking our access to it.
This is all I have to say after 2 months of radio silence
Fuck the Islamic Republic of Iran and how it treats us citizens making us live in conditions like these under their dictatorship.
Fuck everyone who's silent about what's going on in Iran
Down with the ayatollahs and down with the Islamic Republic of Iran and down with the IRGC
And fuck everyone who supports this horrible regime
Sincerely,
A person born , raised and living in Iran
She eepy and hungy and I based it all on a funny pic I found
The years are but a rushing flood—
How fortunate am I,
To hear of the life you’ve drawn from the tide.

I think Minthara is absolutely stunning and all those mods that give her lip filler or change her face completely need to be yeeted into the void.
well-written women who narratively suck are like crack cocaine to me. hello shitty little woman do you need some crumbs of love that you've clearly never been given? lol
hey so Iran's trending rn and as an Iranian who's living in iran i feel the need to share that we don't give a fuck about our supreme leader dying, people celebrated his death all over the country, we're so happy he's dead and are praying for his son to follow suit.
our government is a corrupted, evil one; we're not safe in Iran BECAUSE of our government.
one might argue that "then why haven't you overthrown them then?" well we tried. our government has killed well over 32 thousand people in just 2 days, mocked the murders of children and teenagers in live national tv and imprisoned so many students and professors, hell they even arrested medical DOCTORS who helped the protestors.
y'all keep saying "yeah it's all mossad/us propaganda" but i need you to understand that people in Iran have been in a digital blackout for three months now. the ONLY people who have access to internet are the ones who AGREE and spread IRAN'S PROPAGANDA.
there's a whole war happening and instead of alarms, they cut out our internet and phone connections, we couldn't even call or text our loved ones. don't get me wrong i hate interference from another country on our inside situation but i need you to understand that our hatred and fury with our current regime is far greater than us hating isreal and us bombing us.
oh and btw, everything is fucking filtered and censored here, we can't use any app without a vpn and now? even fucking google don't work without it.
our economy was and is collapsing due to the greed and corruption our government allowed and runs by it.
don't fall for western propaganda on us being uncivilized or "evil terrorist muslims" (half the country ain't even muslim, they use religion as a tool for oppression) but ALSO don't fall for Iran's propaganda on how we're helpless people getting bombed by evil US and how much we love our regime and supreme leader. we want them all dead.

I certainly didn’t hear the tumblr human rights activists crying when the islamic republic murdered Iranian children en masse barely a month prior. I wonder what changed their priorities?
leftists are more worried about being labeled as "islamophobic" rather then denouncing the islamic regime that has just recently massacred 40,000 innocent iranians, that has butchered even more in its vile history, that is a colonizing oppressor of Persians and their homeland, that was run by the demon khamenei who deserved every bit of his murder today.
"iran has a right to defend itself" - yes, iranians do! they have BEEN fighting for this! this did not happen overnight thanks to your word salad posts!!!! but IRANIANS have this right not the GENOCIDAL ISLAMIC REGIME OF IRAN. DEATH TO THE REGIME.
