Description: Fresh off the end-of-year holidays, let's start with a relatively informal class discussion around hypnotic suggestions. We will have class content prepared to demonstrate and talk about different ideas for suggestions, as well as different ways to provide suggestions, but we also wish for this to be an interactive discussion! The floor will be open for Q&A, for discussing your own experiences or preferences thus far with giving or receiving suggestions, and for providing ideas to others attending.

Basic 101 Primer: 6:30 - 7:00 Class: 7:00 - 8:00 Practice/Social: 8:00 - 9:30 (can go over)

Bring a snack or nonalcoholic drink to share, a dinner for yourself, or a suggested donation of $5 to offset food prices, as we'll be providing some food, as well (likely pizza). We can heat any food brought, if needed.

We will have limited attendance capacity, so please do not assume we have space for you, even if you've been to one of our classes in the past, unless you receive confirmation from us of your RSVP. Our main way of tracking RSVPs will be through FetLife Event Page RSVPs, but we will review private/direct messages, as well. For FetLife Event Page RSVPs, Maybe RSVPs are NOT guaranteed a spot in attendance.

This is a Hypnokink in the Carolinas event at a private residence. We require attendees be vetted, so please see our Vetting Policy posted here, it’s probably easier than you think.

We, the Beguiled Conference Committee, are writing this public statement as we feel it is important to provide correction to misinformation posted by the MindQuake Conference Committee.

When Beguiled began in 2019 we were able to get assistance in vetting and sorting through previous Midwest and other conference bans and warnings. One person that has been on our radar since the beginning was Mr. Taqtiks. He had made public statements that put him on the list of people we wouldn’t want presenting for us. He had a list of complaints from both other leadership teams and a few individual community members. It was not until this year’s 2021 Beguiled Conline that he had ever attempted to attend or present with us. So no official statements were ever needed. 

The Mindquake staff claimed that Mr. Taqtiks never got his presentation statuses. His presentations were rejected through the PreTalx system, like every other applicant. He at no point reached out to state that he was having an issue with the system or seeing his status and message. 

The MindQuake Team has also responded to public notice that based on his clear further violations of community decency and, more enforceably, Beguiled Conference policies, Mr. Taqtiks is indeed banned from Beguiled.  Their response was that they don’t recognize it because the ban was not delivered via their preferred method of communication.

Let us be perfectly clear, harassment, retaliation and outing are all explicitly stated as against Beguiled’s policies. Even without previous red flag behaviors, these actions are sufficient for a permanent ban. When a person publicly and via direct messages, lashes out against the people he believes has reported him, that is retaliation and harassment. When he then goes a step further and obtains a confidential report and outs the contents of said report in a public call with 40+ witnesses, there is no investigation needed. These acts were all done in public and acknowledged by both Mr Taqtiks and the rest of the MQ Team. 

MindQuake’s ConCom is free to run their event as they see fit and have whomever on leadership. However we, the Beguiled ConCom, want to create a community where people are accountable and feel comfortable. Beguiled ConCom will not willfully ignore the very real harms that have happened and been excused and defended by MindQuake’s Team. Those who have been harmed get priority. We find it to be inappropriate to ignore such clear violations. 

Mr. Taqtiks is banned from Beguiled. 

Other members of their teams have also had issues and official warnings. It is not generally our policy to share these statuses publicly, but MQ has forced our hand.

We hope this is the last statement we need to make in regards to these issues.

The very idea that a POC intentionally looked to exclude another POC from a “POC inclusivity” event (even one you disagree with) was disturbing. Many other measures were available that were more acceptable. Ex. Yoshi could have discussed the issue directly with Mr. Taqtiks. W could have discussed the issue prior to Charmed to attempt to resolve it. An additional member of Charmed could have been present to address Yoshi’s concerns.

Discussing this topic with other members of the POC kink community including members of the MQ team, many found the very idea of this kind of exclusion as appalling and displaying in itself a lack of cultural awareness.

THIS Bullshit and racist as all fuck. When a Black Queer Trans person is harassed and threatened by a Black Cisman the person who was harassed has NO obligation to subject themselves to that in order to be “more acceptable”. Tha is some respectability politics victim blaming shit. Black, Indigenous, and Other People of Color are not monoliths. I have no doubt that people without context and even some with context disagreed with the way that a Black Queer Trans person protected themself. You will also find plenty of Black and other People of Color who know that NOT ALL SKINFOLK ARE KINFOLK.

HOWEVER that does NOT make it ok for a PW event to use the very complex issues of intragroup internalized oppression, colorism and such as a smoke screen for their organization’s desire to keep documented problematic people on their leadership.

I am furious. MindQuake is racist as fuck and using other BIPOC as a smoke screen to abide the OTHER toxicity at that event.

I’ve spoken to Fay and she has given me permission to share this screenshot of my conversation with her.

Nimja, your account of Story 1 is a gross misrepresentation of the truth. I have Fay’s full consent to share that account of you hypnotising her against her wishes. You have not reconciled with her about this in any meaningful way, and it’s a slap in the face to pretend that you have.

As for Story 2, I’ve said it before: it sounds an awful lot like the woman you’ve had communication with is not the woman who approached me and asked me to write about how you violated her consent. The story I shared in 2019 was written in cooperation with the victim, and she has not asked me to take it down. In order to protect her identity and privacy, I’m not going to say any more about that at this time.

The woman whose emails you are showing has not contacted me, and I am very confused that she says she has spoken to me and that she thought I was her friend. I wonder whether I’ve ever met or spoken to this woman at all.

Finally, I don’t think quoting Mindquake’s organisor is going to help your case. A lot of stuff has been said about her in the past weeks, and she has responded with a lot of comments on Fetlife. You might want to read some of that.

I’m not sure what else to say. A few years ago, I believed there was hope for you if you changed your ways and learned more about how consent works in hypnokink.

A few days ago, I posted on Fetlife (and later copied and pasted my edited version on my blog here) about the consent violation at the erotic hypnosis “demo” in my local area. Another thing that has been bothering me a great deal is that one of the owners of the place where the demo occurred contacted me via PM and really read me the riot act for mentioning the place by name in my original post about what happened on Wed. night. He asked me to remove any mention of the place from my post. (I did that.) I’ve copied and pasted from some of his PM below:

“From my perspective, what occurred was common practice for stage hypnosis and the violation was subtle to the point, no one else noticed until after reading your post. Even your own Mistress, who surely knows more about hypnosis than I, and certainly knows you better than I, allowed you to participate. Is it fair to hold me (and my organization) to a higher standard?

I understand that you feel violated and I sympathize with your desire to vent, but I don’t believe our level of involvement warrants having our name dragged through the mud.”

Then he had the gall to ask me if he could include what happened in a BDSM 101 talk about consent. I replied with the following: “If you include this experience in the consent section of a BDSM 101 series, you can also add what not to say when someone reports a consent violation. Telling a victim of a consent violation that 1) it’s not that bad, 2) the victim chose to be there and 3) their Mistress shouldn’t have allowed them to be there, is retraumatizing. It’s the same as telling a vanilla rape victim, “hey, don’t make our fraternity look bad, and BTW it’s really your fault because you chose to come to the party and drink.” You might want to say in your BDSM 101 class that saying these kind of remarks tells subs/ bottoms that when they report consent violations, they’ll be blamed, which erodes safety and trust in BDSM community leaders.“

For a long time now, at least a year, possibly longer, I’ve been saying “I really have to write something on my view about labels.”  Well, here’s a bit of a venting perspective on my view of labels.

Class Summary Hypnosis is often misrepresented and thus misunderstood. In this class, we’ll be discussing why you may be interested in using hypnosis in your kink play, demystifying a variety of myths from pop culture and media representation, and giving a how-to primer while ensuring you know what risks there are to be aware of, so you can practice in at least in a RACK mindset.

If you will be attending and have any specific questions that you’d like answered privately ahead of time or you’d like covered as part of the class without having to ask publicly, feel free to ask ahead of time via e-mail or any of our social media handles (see below).

Practice Lab  

After the class is done, we will open the floor to allow attendees to freely practice. This is also a time for socializing, we just ask that you do so away from those taking the opportunity to practice for themselves. This is the perfect time to have a mentored session so you can get feedback and advice, as well as just try out new things with people you can discuss the topic with right there with you, so we strongly recommend taking the opportunity to practice so you can go through some of what was taught. The best way to learn is often to just do the thing!

Vetting and RSVP Required

As this is at a private residence, all people must be vetted, and we will not publicly place the address, meaning you need to contact us. For either vetting or event address, please contact us at least 3 days before this class so we can respond accordingly.

Failure to contact us regarding vetting may bar you from being able to attend.  Failing to RSVP will prevent you from being sent the address or any other useful information. NOTE: if already vetted, RSVPing as Going to the event linked here FetLife is all you need!  RSVP as Going on the FetLife event page, and you’ll be PMed the address if you’re already vetted.  We will accept private RSVP via PM/e-mail, but request RSVPing on the FetLife event link if safely reasonable for you.
